Fong Wei Fish Head Noodle @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Fong Wei Fish Head Noodle must be a relatively new restaurant because previously, this very unit used to be occupied by Hong Hong Chicken Rice which I had reviewed before. Just like what I had expected and in line with my review, they are no longer in business and one of the reasons is that the owners had relied too much on foreign workers to run the business. Quality and taste were below expectations and that had led to their closure. As I drove past this evening, I noticed this new restaurant and I decided to drop in for dinner.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan GC 4, Cyberjaya

Neat Looking Interior
This restaurant is located along Jalan GC 4, on the Glomac Cyberjaya side. The interior has not changed much except for the fresh coat of paint, some pictures and brightly lit lights. This is good as the previous one was very dimly lit and had a gloomy feeling to it.

Iced Green Tea @ RM 1.00
Though the restaurant carries the name Fish Head Noodles, they do have other dishes on their menu. Prices seemed standard to me but the service levels needs to be improved. Even after walking in and having been seated for a while, no body actually attended to me despite many of them noticing me in the restaurant. Moreover, the restaurant isn't that big for a customer to go unnoticed. Nevertheless, after some aggressive attempts at trying to get their attention, I was finally attended to by one of the gentleman there. Clearly, it's a family owned business and everyone working there seemed to be family. Anyway, I was finally done with my ordering and the Iced Green Tea that I had ordered was served. Honestly, the Green Tea was very diluted and it would take one a while to even guess that that's Green Tea. I am sure that you would be able to say the same based on the colour. My rating for this drink shall be 3/10.

Fish Paste Noodles @ RM 8.50

The Broth Was Delicious

Creamy And Nice
I wasn't in the mood to go for Fish Head and so, I went for their Fish Paste Noodles that is served in the same milky broth. The broth was lovely, seriously it was nice but it would have been better if they had been a little more generous with the pickled vegetables. The Fish Paste itself wasn't great and it was clearly not fresh. For the broth, I would give this 8/10 and for the Fish Paste, 2/10.

Fong Wei Fish Head Noodle is a relatively new Chinese Restaurant to open in Cyberjaya. If I am not mistaken, this is the only place where you could get Fish Head Noodles in Cyberjaya. Taste wise, I loved the milky broth but do avoid the Fish Paste version as I found it to be not so fresh. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance was lovely. However I do feel that they would need to improve in terms of service levels.

Restoran Kee V @ Kajang, Selangor

When we talk about food in Kajang, only Satay would come to most people's mind. But not many know that there are more food items that are famous in Kajang and the Hot Pepper Soup is one of those dishes.

Restoran Kee V In Taman Sepakat Indah
This dish had been made famous by a few restaurants and Kee V is one of them. Again, Kee V has a few outlets across Kajang and this one that I visited is located in Sungai Chua. If you do Google, it brings you precisely to this place. The service is speedy here. In fact, it seems that they are used to handling crowd and I was amazed at the speed that they work.

There is not much to their menu, just a handful of dishes. This is not surprising since most people who come here pretty much order the same things and they are those that are listed under the recommendation section. Predominantly, this restaurant is famous for those dishes and that is precisely what we had ordered this evening. Prices are very reasonable as well. One setback here is that the restaurant tends to get very smokey at times due to the way they prepare the dishes. Even when they serve the dishes at the table, it takes a while for the smoke to settle.

Hot Soup @ RM 15.50
This is the famous Hot Soup that had made a name for itself in Kajang. Comes with lots of Pork slices, ginger, pepper and a whole load of other ingredients. For me, it wasn't really too spicy but it was sufficient to get me profusely sweating. Lovely blend of flavours that just makes you wanting for more. 9/10 is what I shall be rating this dish.

Chicken With Wine @ RM 15.50
Another excellent dish that must not be missed. I was totally in love with this. Chicken chunks were prepared in a thick greasy gravy which had been made with soy sauce and rice wine and topped with onions and spring onions. It was sweet, slightly spicy and overall projected a very unique taste. I shall rate this at 9/10 as well.

Claypot Tau Foo @ RM 12.00
This Claypot Tofu was another very good preparation. They were very generous with the ingredients and the base sauce was delicious. Another good dish to have here. It's just sad that they did not have their signature Curry Pork Ribs and Fried Spring Rolls today. Still, this was a hearty meal and my rating for this dish would be 8/10.

Our Bill
Kajang is a town that is famous for it's Satay but not many know that there are more dishes that this town is famous for. This Hot Soup is one such dish that you get in a number of restaurants in Kajang and Restaurant Kee V is one of the pioneers to roll this dish out. Besides this dish, their Spare Ribs Curry, Chicken with Wine and Spring Rolls are dishes that are highly sought after as well. A good place in Kajang that Chinese food lovers should try.

Kannaa's Bamboo Masalla Briyani @ Puchong, Selangor

I am a huge fan of Briyani and when I heard about this new place in Puchong that had just recently started, I had to find my way there. This restaurant specialises in Bamboo Briyani and they sell a variety of the above.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan KS 3A

Open Tuesday to Sunday

Iced Lime
It's not too difficult to find this restaurant using Waze or Google Maps. The only problem here would be parking but if you're willing to walk, then it should not be a problem. We were here at around 1 pm and the place was full house. Luckily, we managed to get a table and in a matter of minutes, our food was served. Service levels are pretty good here. Their team of waiters are very quick to attend to their customers and that is something that I have to congratulate them. Most people seemed to be ordering this Iced Lime and we decided to go for the same. My rating for this drink shall be 7/10. In terms of variety, they have Chicken Briyani, Mutton Briyani, Prawn Briyani, Fish Briyani as well as Vegetarian Briyani. For those wanting to have plain rice and curry, that option is available too.

Dishing Out The Prawn Briyani

Prawn Briyani @ RM 16.00
Their Prawn Briyani came with a decent portion of Briyani Rice, an egg, Pudina Chili Chutney and Cucumber Raita and Spicy Sambal Prawns. The rice itself was so good and it was moist with some thick masala that was so good. The Prawn Sambal was heavenly too and they had used reasonably large prawns. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10.

Dishing Out The Mutton Briyani

Cucumber Raita & Pudina Chili Chutney

Mutton Briyani @ RM 16.00
Their Mutton Briyani came with similar sides and again, the aroma was so good. Not only was the rice so delicious, even the mutton was extremely well done. The overall flavours that you get from the entire dish is truly something memorable. Again, 9/10 shall be my rating for this preparation.

Our Bill
In summary, both their Bamboo Prawn Briyani as well as their Bamboo Mutton Briyani was very impressive. Heavenly taste, amazing flavours and the aroma was so good. Besides these, I absolutely loved their service levels and their pricing is very reasonable. If you're looking for some awesome Briyani in Puchong, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul @ IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

We were in the mood to have some Cendol but were not too familiar where to go find a good one in Putrajaya and that was when my friend suggested to try this one called Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul which is located inside IOI City Mall. Since I have never tried this outlet, I decided to just follow.

Good Variety

Pay First And The Items Would Be Sent Over
This outlet is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall. Pretty impressive set up and the crowd was very encouraging. However, the prices are not cheap and that's understandable since they are located inside a premium location. It's almost like a fast food concept, you walk in, queue up, place your orders and pay for them and then return to your table. The food items would be sent over once it's ready.

Teochew Cendol Original @ RM 6.50

Ice Kacang Original @ RM 6.50
We tried their Cendol as well as Ice Kacang. I would say that it was above average. Not one that was exceptionally good as I have tasted much better ones. Perhaps, it is just conveniently located inside a mall and that draws the  crowd to this place. My rating for both the items shall be 7/10.

Restoran Hoe Mun Kee (PJ) Steamed Fish Head @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Another restaurant that is extremely famous for their Steamed Bonito Fish Head would be Restoran Hoe Mun Kee (PJ) Steamed Fish Head that is located along Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya. I hardly venture around this side of town and this place coma highly recommended. So, we decided to take a drive this afternoon to see is this restaurant is living up to it's reputation.

The Restaurant Along Jalan Penchala
Finding the restaurant is rather easy as it is located by the side of the road. The challenge however would be in finding a bay to park. Luckily we arrived quite early and that being the case, we could find a bay not too far from this restaurant.

The above are their standard and specialty dishes that are on offer. However, you could order some customised dishes as well. Nevertheless, these are the main dishes that this restaurant is famous for. The owner is quite a chatty person and would always like to recommend new dishes. Just as we struck a conversation this afternoon, he recommended us to try three of his signature dishes. Of course, there are more to try but since there were two of us only, he decided to stop with three as it makes no sense in forcing us to go for more dishes. The place was clean and since it was a rather open concept, the breeze was good. Despite having quite a number of customers, the wait wasn't too long.

Thai Style Squid @ RM 28.00

Ipoh Bean Sprouts @ RM 13.00
This Thai Style Squid was a very unique preparation that I have never come across before. They were steamed is a base sauce that predominantly had bird eye chilies as it's main ingredients. Very spicy in taste but it had a sour aftertaste. The fresh tender squid surely added glory to this dish. A must try dish at this restaurant and my rating for this dish shall be 10/10. Similarly, their Ipoh Bean Sprouts was good as well. Fresh, thick and juicy Bean Sprouts were prepared with a dash of sauces and served with some crunchy peanuts. Another unique dish that we thoroughly enjoyed. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10.

Steamed Bonito Fish Head @ RM 35.00
Their Steamed Bonito Fish Head was another treat. Not too expensive as well and at the same time, not as cheap as the one that we had in Seri Kembangan New Village. Nevertheless, taste wise, this was something else. The fish was sweet and the blend of sauces were just perfect. One of the best preparations of this dish I would say and this definitely deserves a rating of 9/10.

Our Bill For The Afternoon
Restoran Hoe Mun Kee(PJ) Steamed Fish Head does serves some amazing dishes. Among the three that we tried this afternoon, I would say that their Thai Style Squid was the winner followed by their Steamed Bonito Fish Head and the next one which was also good would be their Ipoh Bean Sprouts. Prices are reasonable and their services are on a personal level. They go the extra mile in getting to know their customers and that's excellent customer service. Definitely a restaurant that I would recommend visiting.

Address: No. 35, Jalan Penchala, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert @ IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

After a long time, we decided to go for some mall food instead of the local street food that I would usually blog about. For a change, we decided to visit IOI City Mall and try this Hong Kong restaurant that specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert is one that needs no introduction. They are widely spread across Singapore and have a relatively good market presence in Malaysia too. Despite having been around for a number of years and in a number of malls, I have never tried the food there. That being the case, we decided to have dinner here.

The Restaurant Located On The Lower Ground Level Of IOI City Mall

Lovely Decoration
It was a rather early dinner for us and that being the case, the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. But once it crossed 7 pm, customers started coming in. This restaurant is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall and it must be one of those few non Halal restaurants to be in opened in this mall.

The above are just two pages from their menu. Their full menu was quite extensive and they had a good range of Cantonese dishes to choose from. Prices were the usual mall prices and I definitely would not complain about that. Ordering was a breeze and I found their service levels to be decent.

Hong Kong Style Milk Coffee @ RM 4.50

Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles @ RM 16.90
Their Hong Kong Style Coffee was as expected. It had a deep bodied taste and slightly on the bitter sweet side. Definitely not suitable for those who do not like much sugar in their drinks. However, this is how it is in Hong Kong and in that sense, it was quite authentic. RM 4.50 for this seemed reasonable and my rating for this drink shall be 9/10. Their Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles were quite good too. The usual Egg Noodles served in soy sauce and topped with some crisp Pork Chops. Portions were good and the Egg Noodles were so soft and silky. Very authentic taste as well and for those who are only used to the Malaysian style of Wan Tan Mee, then this would be something quite different as the sauces are on the light side and most of the flavours are derived from the hot springy Egg Noodles. The Pork Chops were decent too. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10.

SK Signature Combination Noodles @ RM 17.90

Both Noodles Comes With A Bowl Of Clear Soup
Their SK Signature Combination Noodles was the same variety of dry Egg Noodles served with sauces but this came with a generous amount of Pork Dumplings and some Char Siew and it was priced a Ringgit more. The flavours of the overall dish was equally good as the earlier one. Their Char Siew was decent and their Pork Dumplings were excellent. Very juicy and delicious it was. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10 as well. Both noodle dishes came with a small bowl of clear soup and this soup was good. Balanced flavours and went well with the mains. 7/10 shall be my rating for this soup.

Hong Kong Siew Mai @ RM 7.90

Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean @ RM 7.90
We also tried two Dim Sum varieties and they were the Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean and the other was a tray of Siew Mai. Both were good and I specifically enjoyed the previous more that the latter. I would rate their Siew Mai at 7/10 and their Spare Ribs at 9/10.

Our Bill
If you're looking for a good place to have Cantonese dishes inside shopping malls, you might want to check out Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert. We tried some of their Noodles as well as a few Dim Sum varieties this evening and found the food to be quite good. Standard mall prices apply but it's definitely worth it.
