Freond Tavern @ Puchong, Selangor

Freond Tavern is a restaurant cum pub that is located in Block G, Setia Walk. I was told that this place does some really amazing Western Food. Being a fan of Western cuisine, we decided to drop by for dinner this evening. 

Indoor Seating Area

The place had a lovely ambiance. Unlike most pub cum cafes that seem to be quite noisy, this place was more suited for families who are mainly looking for some good food along with some drinks. The entire indoor dining area was very nicely designed and it had a very welcoming feeling to it. The outdoor seating area is designed more like a watering hole. For those who are looking for wine, they do have an amazing collection of wines as well. 

The above are just a few pages from their menu. They had a wide selection of dishes ranging from local to Western cuisine. Prices seemed very reasonable to me. In fact, I would say that they were very cheap. Do note that although this place is opened till midnight daily, the cut off time for the kitchen is 10.30 pm. 

Coca Cola @ RM 9.00

Lemon Tea @ RM 8.00

Their customer service was awesome and the waiters were quick to attend to customer's needs. As for their drinks, I would say that their Lemon Tea was good. Made using quality tea and heavily infused with Lemon, it was truly refreshing and I shall rate this at 8/10. 

Chicken Chop in Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 20.90

Pork Tenderloin in Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 22.90

We had ordered some dishes that we shared among the two of us. All their Western sets comes with Fries and some Salad. Portions were good and definitely a pretty good deal for the price. Their Chicken Chop was really nice. The meat was tender, grilled just right and the black pepper sauce complimented the dish really well. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Pork Tenderloin was amazing. I wonder how the meat was so soft and tender. I believe they may have marinated the meat with beer. Once again, it was an excellent preparation and I would definitely give this 10/10. 

Lamb Cutlets @ RM 22.80

Their Lamb Cutlets were another marvelous preparation. The taste of the lamb was so good and it reminded me of the Lamb Chops that we used to get back in the 80's. A long lost taste that is almost impossible to find these days. Beautiful cuts with almost no bone served with mint sauce. My rating for this shall be 10/10 as well. 

For some amazing Western food in Puchong, I would recommend Freond Tavern. Each and every dish that we had tasted was amazing and the meat was so tender and juicy. The highlight was definitely their Lamb Cutlets. Very reasonable prices, excellent customer service and heavenly food.

Restoran San Cia @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Restoran San Cia may seem like a very ordinary restaurant but this is a restaurant that is very famous for their roasted meats, mainly their Char Siew and Siew Yuk. The demand for their Siew Yuk is so great so much so it is even sold before it is prepared.

This restaurant is located very close to the Tanjung Malim Bus Station and it is right in the middle of town. In order to enjoy all their meat variety, my recommendation would be to be here around 11 am for an early lunch.

Iced Herbal Tea

White Rice

The place is always busy and they are mostly full house during lunch hour. Besides this, there would be lots of takeaways too. We were here slightly after 1.30 pm and even then, their Yellow Rice that is prepared specially for the Chicken Rice is already sold out and we had to settle for some White Rice instead. One of my favourite drinks here is their Herbal Tea. It's really good and my rating for this shall be 9/10. 

Clear Soup

Don't expect much of a service here as they are all so busy. So, please do order at the counter and the food would be sent over to your table shortly. With their meats, the above clear soup comes complimentary. For me, this is decent and my rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Chili Paste is above average as well. Not as great as Rudy's which I had blogged about sometime last week. Rating wise, I would give this 7/10 as well. Not too spicy and it's slightly on the watery side. 

Roasted Duck, Roasted Chicken & Char Siew

As I had expected, they were sold out on their Siew Yuk. They have lots of orders that goes by the Kg's from people in Kuala Lumpur and they only allocate a small portion for their daily retail sales. But I have tasted it before and it's truly heavenly. So today, we could only enjoy their Char Siew, Roasted Chicken and Roasted Duck. Do note that they do not do Steamed Chicken. I would rate their Char Siew at 9/10, their Roasted Duck at 9/10 and their Roasted Chicken at 9/10. 

Pickled Vegetables

They have a handful of vegetables prepared on a daily basis and this afternoon, we decided to go for their Pickled Vegetables. Excellent preparation and it was truly enjoyable. My rating for this shall be 8/10. 

If you're passing Tanjung Malim, I would recommend doing an early lunch at Restoran San Cia which is located in Taman Loke Yew, not too far away from the Bus Station. Their Siew Yuk, Char Siew and Roasted Duck are truly amazing but you have to be there before 11.30 am to enjoy all three meats. Excellent roasted variety at reasonable prices.

Restoran Ratha Banana Leaf Cuisine @ Kajang, Selangor

Restoran Ratha Banana Leaf Cuisine is a relatively new South Indian Restaurant that had opened in Kajang sometime in April this year. Previously, this very place was occupied by Ravi's Banana Leaf Restaurant. Business had been good for him and I am not sure why he had closed down. Nevertheless, having seen a new establishment, we decided to drop by for lunch.

The Restaurant In Taman Jelita, Kajang

My Lunch @ RM 8.00

The restaurant had been renovated and the concept was simple and nice. They do have a good spread of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes but do come early as it tends to sell out pretty fast. This is not a conventional Banana Leaf Restaurant where the leaf is placed in front of you and the rest of the items served. Here, it's slightly different. Banana Leaves are placed on plastic trays near the food counter and you pick a tray and choose the items yourself. Very much like a plate concept except that it's served on Banana Leaves. I had two curries, two vegetables, some Rasam, pickles and Chicken Perattal and the whole lot was priced at RM 8.00 . Definitely very reasonable pricing. 

Bean Sprouts

Both the vegetables that I had taken were very tasty and fresh. Even the Bean Sprouts were not overcooked and they were still crispy and nice. My rating for both veggies shall be 8/10. 

Pulicha Keerai

I thoroughly enjoyed their Pulicha Keerai as well as Sambar. They were very nicely done and the spices were just perfect. Good that they weren't stingy with the spices and that truly brought out the desired taste. Even their Rasam was good. My rating for all three curries shall be 8/10. 

Chicken Perattal

Their Chicken Perattal was heavenly. I loved it so much as it was on the spicy side and the gravy was just fantastic. The Chicken chunks were perfectly done too. This definitely deserves a rating of 9/10. 

For some good South Indian food in Kajang, you might want to check out Restoran Ratha Banana Leaf Cuisine that had opened a few months back. Located in Taman Jelita along Jalan Reko, they do have some fantastic offering during lunch. Come early as the food tends to get sold out fast. Reasonable prices too.

Curry Mee Sebelah Kedai Basikal Apek Uncle @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Curry Mee Sebelah KedaiBasikal Apek Uncle is not a new place. In fact, this situation is quite unique. It's an old restaurant with has been taken over by a new operator who's not so new themselves as they have been previously running their business from Jalan Ketoyong, Tanjung Malim. Now, it's much more convenient as they have relocated to be along the main trunk road.

Busy Every Morning

For those who are wondering where this is, it is right beside the entrance leading into Taman Bina, not too far from the entrance to the Tanjung Malim Hospital. The place is crowded daily and they have a variety of noodles that they offer. Besides these, Pau's and a handful of Dim Sum are also available. 

Iced Coffee

They just took over the business in early May and when I got to know about the relocation, I made it a point to visit them since now, they are merely a three minutes walk from parent's place. Their Iced Coffee was good. Fixed just the way it should be and my rating for this shall be 9/10. 

Curry Mee @ RM 3.50

They do have a variety of noodles that they offer but their top seller is their Curry Mee. The Curry itself is so good and comes with a variety of add on's. If I were to rate this preparation, my rating would be 9/10. Definitely a good Curry Mee that you should not miss in Tanjung Malim.

Restoran Gombak Hokkien Mee @ Puchong, Selangor

Adding on to the list of Hokkien Mee Restaurants in Puchong is the recently opened Gombak Hokkien Mee. This restaurant is located along Jalan Puteri 2/4 and had only started business sometime early this month.

The colour of the signboard was quite striking that makes it almost impossible to miss this place. Parking can be a problem though but if you ground in circles, I am sure that sooner or later, you'd get a place to park.

The above are just some of the pages from their menu. Besides the usual Hokkien Mee fare, they also have a range of Grilled Fish dishes which looked pretty good. So we ordered some noodles and also went for one of those as well.

Apple Fox Cider @ RM 8.00

The restaurant was very organised. There were a few tables outdoors but the majority of them were indoors. Ventilation was really good and that made it very comfortable to be indoors. I decided to try the Apple Fox Cider as I have never tried this brand before. Slightly on the sweet side and it was really smooth. Worth giving it a try if you like Apple Cider. 

Hokkien Mee (Small) @ RM 9.00

Chili Paste With Belanca

Their Hokkien Mee was good, I mean really good and I totally enjoyed the overall flavours of the dish. Not too wet and not too dry and it came with lots of add ons like lard, pork and shrimps. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Truly one of the good Hokkien Mee's out there. Their Chili Paste with Belacan had a really bold flavour and just a little bit gave each spoonful the desired flavours. 8/10 would be my rating for the latter. 

Moonlight Char Kuey Teow (Small) @ RM 9.00

Grilled Stingray @ RM 28.00

Their Moonlight Char Kuey Teow was fantastic though. In fact, outside of Tanjung Malim, this was the best that I had tasted in the Klang Valley and it was very close in flavours to Leong Kee. 9/10 would be my rating for this dish. Their Grilled Stingray was superb! Truly some amazing stuff. The curry paste was so delicious and the stingray was perfectly done. 9/10 would be my rating for this as well. 

The Bill

Restoran Gombak Hokkien Mee is the newest Hokkien Mee joint to open up in Puchong and they had started sometime early this month. We tried their Hokkien Mee, Moonlight Char Kuey Teow and Grilled Stingray. All were really good and their Moonlight Char Kuey Teow was the best that I have tasted in the Klang Valley. Their Grilled Stingray was the highlight of this evening's meal. Absolutely delicious and highly recommended.
