Tong Lian Kee Hokkien Mee @ Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

We Malaysians enjoy a good plate of dark Hokkien Mee and as such, there have been many such places that have become famous in the Klang Valley. One such place that has been around for many years in Pudu is Tong Lian Kee.

The Stall Located Along Jalan Sarawak

Cutlery
Firstly, I must apologise for the poor quality of the photographs as we had very dim street light that night and hence the pictures are not that great. The stall itself is located along the side road heading to the back alley. Generally, the place was crowded but don't expect much in terms of cleanliness. But I was certain that the food would be good based on the crowd that was here around midnight and they were running out of tables. This stall is open from 8 pm till 2 am Mondays to Saturdays.

Chili Paste

Cantonese Noodles
The waiter had already informed us at the time of order that it would take quite a while and true enough, we had to wait close to 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The first dish that arrived was their Cantonese Noodles, a.k.a. Yin Yong. The noodles was good and it came is a translucent eggy broth. Definitely a good preparation and my rating for this shall be 8/10. Their Chilli Paste was really good as well. Made with Belacan and the flavours were medium bodied and not too strong. My rating for that shall be 8/10.

Hokkien Mee

Spicy Pork Soup
Their Hokkien Mee was really good. Made with lots of lard, the flavours were awesome and it came with generous amounts of the dark sauce. Not too wet and not too dry, the balance was just perfect. 9/10 shall be my rating for this. Their Spicy Pork Soup however was above average only. The flavours were a little too mild for me and therefore I shall be only giving this 7/10.

Another good place in Pudu for some Hokkien Mee would be Tong Lian Kee that is located along Jalan Sarawak. Their Hokkien Mee was excellent and their Cantonese Style Noodles were good. The Spicy Soup however could have been better. Reasonable prices and it's crowded all night long. Cleanliness wise, it could have been better.
