Jaipur Curry House @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Today my friend and I decided to head out to Taman Tun Dr. Ismail for some good Indian Banana Leaf meal. Initially as we were discussing our options, we had contemplated between Solaris Dutamas and Taman Tun and finally decided upon Restaurant Jaipur Curry House in Taman Tun. To people within close proximity, this is surely a familiar name. It has been around for many years now and is very popular in the neighbourhood.

Restaurant Jaipur Curry House in Taman Tun Dr Ismail

This restaurant is located along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad, along the same block as Secret Recipe. We were here around lunch hours and usually at this time parking can be a major issue. Luckily as we had that thought in mind, we rode a motorcycle today.

Interior Of The Restaurant
During peak hours like these, getting a table or even drawing the waiters attention can be a challenging. People have to share tables and sometimes squeeze themselves in corners that are too narrow for them to eat comfortably. Just like the others, we had to share a table with a Chinese gentleman who was half way through his lunch.

Curry Station
There were quite a number of customers who were taking away as they preferred not to dine among such a crowd. For these people, they head over to the Curry Station and get their own dishes. I guess this makes the process much faster. At peak hours like these, it seems like there is just not enough staffs around as everyone is so busy attending to the customers needs.

Basic Vegetarian Meal @ RM 5.50
After some difficulty and my friend having to wave the waiters down a number of times, we finally caught a waiters'attention. Just like any other Tamil restaurant, they have both normal and Par Boil rice options. Just a note that they also serve Briyanis and there seemed to be quite a crowd for that too. Coming back to the above set meal, it comes with four vegetables and papadam. Their choice of vegetables was not the norms and they deserve a thumbs up for that. One thing that I observed while having lunch today is that as their vegetables are sold out, they keep cooking new ones and not replenishing the same type of vegetable. That is to say that assuming someone comes in at 1130 am, they would have different sets of vegetables and for someone coming in at 2.30pm for lunch, would have another different sets of vegetables. Above all, they were very efficient in maintaining the float of supply. As for the above vegetables, I would rate them 8.8/10 .

Crab Curry
My friend does come here quite often and he recommended me to try the Crab Curry. After trying their curry, I would say that this Crab Curry is cooked according to the Kerala Style and not the Tamil Style. However, it did taste good and was thick and rich in spices, though not being spicy. I would rate this curry at 9/10 .However I would like to repeat again that this is not the Tamil Style Crab Curry but it is the Kerala Style Crab Curry.

Mutton Varuval @ RM 6.50
Being a mutton fan myself, I was totally let down by this dish. Though it looks good from the above photo, it  was only average. The mutton cuts were of high quality with no fat but the preparation was disappointing. I would only rate this dish at 5/10 .

Chicken Perattal @ RM 6.50
The Chicken Perattal however was excellent. The chicken was cooked well, the spices were just right and everything about this dish was good. This dish would score 9/10 .

Chicken 65 @ RM 6.50
This restaurant does not sell the usual fried chicken but only have these Chicken 65. These are small chunks of chicken, marinated in spices and deep fried to order. The good things about this dish was that the chunks were just about the right size, it is fried to order but the marination was just insufficient. As such, it did not give the usually oomph that comes with this dish. I would rate this dish at 7/10 .

Rasam
Rasam is given complimentary with all Banana Leaf meals. If you would notice, the tumbler is only half full and that is the exact amount that is given out to customers. In most other places, you get the full tumblers. The taste however was quite decent. Definitely does not stand somewhere around the best Rasam's in town but it was still well done. I would rate this at 8/10 .

Payasam
The Payasam again is given complimentary. This however tasted very good, just the way I like it with less sugar. I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Chicken Curry Puffs
I was also told that the Chicken Curry Puffs here are pretty good, in fact directly comparable to that of IKEA's. I did not try it though as the Banana Leaf meals filled me up till the neck. Overall, this is not bad a place to have banana leaf meals especially when you do not have the time to go into Brickfields in search of good eateries. I think, for the little locality of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, this would be the best place to have Tamil meals. The total meal today cost us RM 30.50 .
