Home Kitchen @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Located in Bandar Sri Damansara a few doors away from Maybank and RHB Bank is a restaurant called Home Kitchen which serves good Chinese food. I believe that they may have a number of outlets across the Klang Valley and this information was something that I gathered while doing some internet browsing. A close friend of mine recommended this restaurant to me saying that they are quite popular as most of their dishes are pretty authentic, reasonably priced and they usually serve them in little wok's. That's a pretty interesting concept. Having postponed this trip to this restaurant for almost six months for one reason or another, we finally decided to head there for dinner today.

Home Kitchen Restaurant in Bandar Sri Damansara
Parking around this area can be extremely difficult. Even today, it took us almost 20 minutes to find a parking bay. There are many that just park their cars by the road side and at night I guess that it is fine but not during the day though. It's just that there are many that double park here and that in itself creates a long congestion.

Interior Of The Restaurant
This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating areas which is divided by some glass doors. The indoor area is air conditioned and the outdoor area is predominantly for smokers. The restaurant itself is very clean I should say and well decorated. We decided to sit inside today and there were these American diner chairs in little cubicle like spaces which was nice for us.

The Menu

Steamed Groundnuts @ RM 2.00
The moment we took our seats, we were immediately attended to. The restaurant was buzzing at this moment and all the waiters were hyper active in attending to the chores. Most of the waiters were young boys and the owner I suppose, a Chinese Lady attended to order taking. The menu was quite extensive and took us a while to decide the dishes. A good thing with the menu is that every dish has a photograph of it included beside the listings. At this point in time, they also placed the cutlery and also the above Steamed Groundnuts which is common in some of these Chinese Restaurants. The Groundnuts definitely tasted good and helped us ease our hunger as we were already very hungry when we arrived here.

Asam Boi with Lime @ RM 2.80
I ordered the above drink and Angie went with just a glass of plain water. The above drink was priced at RM 2.80 which is cheap and tasted pretty good and refreshing. I would rate this drink at 9/10 . As for Angie's glass of plain water, it was also chargeable at a price of RM 0.50 which I think is fine.

Plain Rice @ RM 1.20
We ordered two bowls of rice, one large and one small. The large one cost RM 1.20 each and the small one at RM 0.80 each.

Asam Seafood Dish @ RM 16.00
This dish was typically Asam Pedas style with a whole lot of mixture containing fish meat, prawns, squid, lady's finger and brinjals. This dish was well cooked and placed on a burner to keep the dish warm during consumption. It lacked spiciness and could have been better in that sense but otherwise it was a great dish. There was a lot of vegetables and for the price of RM 16.00 , it is considered reasonably cheap. I would rate this dish at 8/10 .

Three Layer Tofu @ RM 11.00
This was an excellent dish. The hard external skin and extremely soft filling was heavenly tasting. At the base of this dish, there was some soy sauce which is used to be simmered over the Tofu. Interestingly as my friends mentioned, this dish came in a little wok with a candle burner at the base. I really liked this dish and would strongly recommend it. My rating for this dish is 9/10 .

French Beans with Preserved Vegetables @ RM 10.00
Another excellent dish. The French Beans were carefully cooked with preserved vegetables and pork. It had been cooked to just about the right level whereby the sweet taste of the vegetable remained intact and the preserved vegetables just blended well into the rest. Great preparation again. I would rate this dish at 9.3/10 .

Stewed Pork Belly @ RM 15.00
Although I am a fan of Pork Belly, I didn't quite enjoy this dish. I am not saying that this dish was bad. It was just average and I expected it to be much better at this place, especially when the other dishes were pretty good. I would only rate this dish at 6/10 .

Dinner Is Served
The total bill for the day came to RM 62.25 and this includes a service charge of 5%. On the whole, I find this place to be quite good. Their food was decently good, cheap and the service was excellent. Also their concept of serving in those cute little woks and burners to keep the food hot is a commendable thought. I would definitely return here again to try their other dishes, moreover they are just very close by.
