Char Koay Teow Simply Delicious @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Located at The Strand, Kota Damansara is this new restaurant called Char Koay Teow Simply Delicious which is owned by Serina Redzuawan, the daughter of Chew Wan and in collaboration with Sari Yanti, a famous actress in Malaysia. Being owned by two celebrities, this restaurant has been creating a lot of buzz and hence drawing huge crowd. It is quite easy to locate this restaurant at The Strand due to it's bright lighting and pinkish decor and moreover, it is located right next to Ariani.

All Pinkish Design

More Seats Available Outside
I arrived here late on a Monday night, sometime around 10 pm and even at that time, there was quite a considerable crowd at the restaurant. Besides the indoor seating area, they have also placed tables along the side walks between the two buildings. I must agree that they have lit the place up very well. Even those outdoor seating areas were brightly lit by flood lights.  Do note that this is a cash only restaurant as they do not accept any credit cards. Here, orders need to be placed at the cashier counter by identifying the table number and the dishes that you would like to order and having paid for them, a receipt is then issued to you.

The Main Dishes

The Menu

The Drinks Menu
Their menu is quite simple with the main highlight being their Char Koay Teow. They also have a few other dishes like Fried Koay Teow, Chinese Fried Rice, Kampung Fried Rice and some other cakes for sale. Although they have listed the Satay and Pau's in their menu, they are not yet available and this was confirmed by the cashier when I asked her. On the other side of the menu, they have listed all their drinks offered. I find that their pricing for the dishes are quite reasonable and they have listed three different portion sizes to choose from as well as the add ons but their cakes seem a tad too expensive for the size of it which is no larger than a small cup cake.

Teh Halia @ RM 2.60
The above Teh Halia was on the lighter side. The tea itself was quite diluted but the ginger flavouring was quite satisfactory. I am certain that they had not used real ginger but instead used the ginger flavouring that is commonly available in powder form. I would rate this drink at 6.5/10 . I did read a lot of comments that the service here is mega slow but fortunately today, they were fairly quick. I got my food and drinks simultaneously and it was merely within 15 minutes from the time I had ordered.

Closer Look At The Dish
When the dish was served, I was taken by surprise as it was wet and floating with a lot of broth which seemed more like the Cantonese Style Noodles, except that the colour was brownish and not whitish. Char Koay Teow has always got to be dry and the other version which is their Fried Koay Teow was dry. Nevertheless, it did taste great. It is only later that I learned that this is the Malay Style Penang CKT. It had two decent sized prawns, loads of cockles and the portion was quite satisfying although I had only ordered the small sized one. Definitely a very good dish. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Being owned by a renowned Chef's daughter, this restaurant does meet the standards expected out of it, at least for their signature dish which I had tried tonight. Besides the food, the environment was also very cosy and comfortable. Their staffs were very friendly and their pricing is quite decent, except for the cakes which I had mentioned earlier. I am sure that this restaurant would do very well as long as they maintain their standards.

    1. Hie Lyn Xee....sad that your experience was bad. Their taste should be consistent or else they would end up turning away good customers....
