Champ's Damn Shiok Bistro @ Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

After years of their Centrepoint outlet being open, Champ's has now finally opened another outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre. This particular outlet was open sometime in June 2013 and it was only recently that I had come to know about this outlet.

The Smoking Area
This outlet is located in a quiet corner of BSC and it is on the First Floor. The restaurant is huge and is divided into two sections, smoking and non smoking.

They definitely have a great selection of drinks being offered on their menu and compared to similar class restaurants, the prices seem quite reasonable.

If I were to summarise their entire menu, it is all Porky. The goodness of Pork is prepared in a number of ways and you would find all the dishes that is sold at their Centrepoint outlet to be here too. Besides the usual, you would also find a handful of additional dishes being offered here. Service here is really good and the waiters were very attentive and attended to me immediately whenever I waived at them. 

The Cutlery

I was not quite in the mood for alcohol tonight and hence went for their Hot Teh Halia Tarik. Their drink, though not on par with the Indian Muslim restaurants, was still good though slightly pricey. I would rate their Tea at 7.5/10 .

These were succulent Pork Bacon wonderfully prepared and garnished with sesame seeds and Wasabi to give it a spicy taste. Each bite was a heavenly treat and it was so delicious. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

For those health and weight conscious people, they also have the above Apple Rojak. Crunchy Smiths Green Apples wonderfully marinated and served in Rojak sauce with a lavish topping of crushed peanuts. These were definitely good despite being such a simple preparation. I would rate the above at 8.5/10 .

Pork Belly specially marinated in a secret sauce, sliced very thinly, fried brittle and coated with garlic and chili. This once again was excellent and would definitely go very well with beer. I would rate the above at 9.1/10 .

The Pork Chop was prepared according to the Hainanese style and was served with a topping of Red Tomato Sauce with Green Peas, Onions and Tomato's and Coleslaw and French Fries on the sides.

The meat was really huge and was wonderfully prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed the meat cut as there was very minimal fat and it was fried to perfection. The toppings and sauce too was nicely prepared. I would rate this preparation at 8.8/10 .

French Fries
The Fries too were really crispy and was not at all oily. Definitely a great side to this wonderful dish. I would rate their Fries at 8.9/10 .

Coleslaw
The Coleslaw was good. I usually avoid coleslaw as I do not enjoy it very much but here it well prepared. I would rate this at 9.2/10 .

Overall, it was definitely a very satisfying meal. For Pork lovers out there, this place is a must visit restaurant as you would not be let down by the offering and taste. A highly recommended restaurant!

  1. On Friday 11 March 2016, me and my wife decided to try out the Rib Rack at Champs. We had some barbeque pork and a bowl of Fish Head Noodle while we waited for the full rack of ribs that we were told will take 25 min. A beer and some red wine helped to set the scene for the "famous" full rib rack.

    When it came, I grabbed the knife and fork and oh Boy....it was so tough that I could not cut it with the first go...I then sliced and pulled of the first rib and realized that it is extremely tough and dry on the inside. We called the manager and he quickly agreed that it is "overcooked". At the same time, our neighbour table who ordered the same a bit earlier, also commented that they had some trouble to chew through their full rack...they left half of the rib behind when they left.

    The manager then offered to redo another rib and we agreed, but asked for it to be pack for take away. After another glass of red wine, our full rib rack "take-away" arrived and we paid the full bill and went home. We opened the package and Oh Dear....!!!!! it looks like the same rib that we sent back, only some "clever chef" pre-cut all the pieces and poured on some more basting/sauce...Not very good for a supposedly "good restaurant"...Please don't be ashamed to send back tough old meat from this restaurant...

    1. Oh boy!!! That's an awful experience and sad to see this happening at a famous restaurant. Thank you so much for sharing this. Would definitely be an eye opener to the rest and hopefully this comes to the attention of the owners as well. Thank you again.
