Broadway Cafe @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Hidden amidst a quiet residential area is this Broadway Cafe. I used to frequent here about ten years ago and that was about the time that they started this restaurant. This place is unique as it has it's own loyal customers who come here for the food and some who come here for the beers. They do not have the Halal status as they serve alcohol on the menu but it is a pork free restaurant. Nevertheless, due to the nature of this place being more of a watering hole, you hardly find any Muslim customers here despite it being a Pork Free restaurant.

The place is designed to give a very much pub like appearance. Still, you find a lot of students and families, mostly Chinese, who come here for meals. The waiting is solely done by the lady boss and she has some kitchen helpers.

Kid's Meals

Mostly, the menu comprises of Chinese and Western dishes with a handful of Korean and Japanese dishes. It has been a very long time, more than a decade since I tried the food here but seems to me that the prices have been up and definitely it's a steep increase for a small town like this. 

Good Old Anchor Beer @ RM 15.00

Since it was very much a pub like environment, we went for the good old Anchor Beer. The price is definitely high as they charge RM 15.00 for a bottle. The other beers offered was more expensive than this. Definitely not wallet friendly.

Fish & Chips @ RM 14.90

Errrr....at one look, I was lost for words. This definitely ain't Fish and Chips. It was a slice of deep fried Dory which had been topped with an unusual sauce and came with coleslaw and fries on the sides.

The sauce seemed like an unsuccessful experiment and had traces of wine and tomato sauce in it. It was light, somewhat tasteless and literally soaked the fried Dory. The Dory itself was unusually a thin cut which kept breaking at every attempt that I had tried to fork it out. I have never seen a worse culinary disaster. I am lavish in rating this at 2/10 .

Coleslaw

Hmmm....the coleslaw was just okay. Nothing much in it except shredded cabbage, traces of carrots and mayonnaise. I would rate this at 5/10 .

Lamb Chop @ RM 21.90

This is their Lamb Chop. It had three thin cuts of meat and came with coleslaw and fries on the sides.

As you can see, the meat was charred at some places and undercooked at other places. It was chewy, tough and overly salty. And not to forget that it was ultra thin. RM 21.90 for this, oh please! I'd rather donate that to charity. It was horrible and I would rate this at 3/10 .

Fries

The fries, though slightly dry, was of acceptable quality. I would rate the fries at 7/10 .

Mint Sauce

This, though seemed green in colour, tasted like nothing but water. Absolutely tasteless. Even the Bangladeshi chefs at The Ship make much better Mint Sauce and this tasted like waste water after trying to wash a dish containing mint sauce. This deserves nothing but a 0/10 .

Fried Chicken Wing @ RM 7.90

2 Drummets and 2 Wings

For the price of RM 7.90, this dish is definitely expensive as it came with only two drummets and two wings. You get a much better deal in Kuala Lumpur. Taste wise, it was definitely way better than the earlier dishes but in itself, it was nothing great. Just up to the mark of edible standards. I would rate this at 5.5/10 .

This place has definitely deteriorated over the years. The food quality has gone down tremendously and the prices are just too expensive for this town though I would not mind paying for good food. Nah, I would definitely strike this place off as I would not be paying them a visit anytime in the foreseeable future.
