Restoran Chennai Rawther Thalappakattu Briyani @ Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur

Chennai Rawther Thalappakattu Briyani (not to be confused with Thalappakatti Briyani Restaurant) is one of the best Briyani's in Chennai and I was very glad to have discovered that they have an outlet here in Kuala Lumpur. This has been around for a number of years now and I wonder how I had missed visiting this restaurant as Briyani is one of my favourite dishes. This restaurant is located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, very close to the famous Yasseen Nasi Kandar, in fact just a few doors away and is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm. Having got to know of this place a few days ago, I decided that I have got to visit them this week and here I am this afternoon for lunch.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman

Quite Easy To Locate

Very Clean Restaurant

A Brief On The Outlets in Chennai
Locating this restaurant was very easy for me as I know the area quite well. The restaurant was air-conditioned and the place was extremely clean. It was great to see another Indian Restaurant being awarded Grade A for cleanliness by DBKL. The staffs here were very efficient and the moment I walked in, I was greeted and after having taken my seat, a waiter passed me the menu card. I then asked for a few minutes to go through it as this was my very first visit to this outlet in Kuala Lumpur. Although they were located in a rather strange locality where there were not many Indian restaurants, the reception was great and it was good to see the large number of patrons visiting this restaurant. Most of them seemed like they were very familiar with the restaurant and knew exactly what to order.

The Menu
The menu was just a simple two sided laminate but it had a decent spread of dishes. They served predominantly a variety of Briyani and along with these, they had some vegetarian dishes, some noodle dishes and also some Tandoori. The prices seemed very reasonable to me as the very same items are usually priced much higher than the prices listed here. I then called the waiter who came running up to my table to get the orders. My orders were quite simple, one set of Chicken Briyani and a Teh Tarik.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.30
The drink was served in less than a minute. That's super fast indeed. The drink was priced at RM 1.30 which was very reasonable, bearing in mind that this is KL city center. Their Tea was good and I would rate it at 9/10 .

Chicken Briyani Set @ RM 12.00
Food was also served very quickly. This is their Chicken Briyani set and it was priced at RM 12.00 . This came with a large quantity of Briyani Rice in a pot served with a huge chunk of Chicken and an egg, some Raita and some Dhalcha. If you look back at their menu, they also have another dish called Chicken Briyani Special. That comes with a piece of Fried Chicken instead. I prefer the original style where the Chicken is cooked along with the Briyani Rice and therefore chose the previous instead of the latter.

Briyani Rice In A Pot

Look At The Rice Grains
The Briyani Rice was amazingly good. I was told that they import the rice from Chennai and it is the very same rice that is used across all their outlets in Tamil Nadu. Just look at the length of the grain, one that I have not seen at other Briyani joints. The rice itself was so delicious and I did not even need the Dhalcha or Raita to go with the rice. To be honest, I have never tasted Briyani Rice this delicious anywhere in Malaysia. Absolutely amazing! I would rate this at 10/10 .

Chicken Cooked With The Briyani Rice

Very Tender and juicy Chunks
The Chicken itself was a lavish chunk. Slow cooked to a tender and juicy perfection, this was another treat in itself. Rich with spices, the meat just peeled so easily. That only happens with a perfected cooking style, one that is rare to see these days and I would rate this Chicken at 10/10 again. Delicious!

Boiled Egg
Even the egg that was served with the Briyani had been cooked with the Rice. This you would be able to notice with the spots that's noticeable on the egg. For comparison, do study the egg the next time you visit your favourite Briyani joint. It would be clean and spotlessly white. That means that the egg had just been added before serving, unlike here.

Dhalcha

Dhalcha
Honestly, I never had the need to add their Dalcha to the rice as the rice was so good to be eaten on it's own. Just to taste, I had a few sips of their Dalcha at the end of my meal and once again, it was fantastic. Having loved it, I ended up drinking it like a soup. Perfect is the word for this and I would rate this at 10/10 .

Raita

Comes with Onions, Carrots and Green Chilies
Their Raita was again superb. This was not the usual Raita that we get. This was prepared with thick curd, diced onions, carrots and green chilies. The chilies are not the usual variety that is found in Malaysia. This too had been imported from Chennai. The colour of the chili speaks for itself as that is the colour of chilies commonly found in India. Once again, I would rate this at 10/10 .

Chicken Soup

Provided Complimentary
Just near the cashier, you would notice an odd looking pot with some cutlery on the sides. This is their complimentary Chicken Soup. You'd just have to go and pick it up yourself. No limitation on the number of times that you could top up. The Chicken Soup was absolutely fantastic! Way better that anything that you get at those famous Indian Muslim restaurants. After all, there were not much of a chicken added to this preparation. It was all the 'unused parts' like bones and cartilage but it was the spices that made it taste so good. Seriously, it would be no joke if I said that I don't mind even paying for this. An excellent one and I would rate this at 10/10 .

Location
Overall, an astounding restaurant serving heavenly Briyani's. Everything tasted so perfectly good. For those who have been following my blogs, I am very certain that you would have noticed my writing style and I never give 10/10 easily. This was mind blowing food served in a very humble environment. Very clean premise, excellent food, great customer service and very reasonable prices. A highly recommended restaurant!

    2. Went to the restaurant on Sunday at 1pm. there was only one other customer but the chicken biryani already sold out as there were too many takeaways! Had mutton biryani, fried chicken (looks like tandoori chicken and masala alor gobi.. I think they are very good. also watching the endless stream of customers for takeaways.

Tried Sukha also. Food is quite good but not many customers as ppl not aware of place. This meant also less variety available. I like the spiceness but I think too salty as I don't too much rice nowadays. Hope they survive at least one year.

    3. That's excellent! I'm glad that you enjoyed the food here. Yes, I too observed that their takeaway and delivery rates are quite high. But still glad that you had a good meal.
I wanted to try Sukha on Monday but unfortunately could not make it. Would definitely attempt to visit them soon. Do keep the recommendations coming.

  3. Had our lunch there on Saturday, 2 chicken briyani, 2 mutton briyani, pepper mutton and gobi manchurian. The food was really bad, the chicken and mutton was very dry and tasteless. The gobi manchurian was horrible, saravana bhavan serve a much better gobi manchurian. We felt we wasted our time going all the way there.

    1. Sad that you didn't like the dish but yes, taste buds are very unique. Here they serve the Dindugal Briyani and Saravanabhavan does Karaikudi style Briyani. Both are very different in texture and taste. Just like me, though the Hydrebadi Briyani is very famous, somehow it just doesn't suit my taste. I truly feel sad that you went all the way there but didn't like it. Thanks fir your feedback though. Appreciate it.
