This is a place that I had visited some months back to try their Dim Sum. It is a relatively new restaurant in town located in Taman Wangsa Jaya and sadly, the only place in town where we can get some homemade Dim Sum. After I posted about this place in Facebook, despite the not so great review, I had some friends from Kuala Lumpur and they insisted on visiting this restaurant. Though I had forewarned them, they kept insisting that they wanted to go for Dim Sum and having had no choice, I brought them here.

Both trips here, I was amazed at the cleanliness and I simply loved their bright lights. Suits the place so well. And so, my friends got on to ordering the dishes. Pretty much they all had Dim Sum and some Loh Mai Kai which I shall be reviewing again below. I had wanted to come here and try their Bak Kut Teh and since I am already here this evening, used this opportunity to give that dish a try. 

Three Varieties Of Dim Sum

They only have three different varieties of Dim Sum and it is the same daily, not on rotation basis. Their Dim Sum's were definitely better than those mass produced, frozen, factory packed ones but gauging them based on what a homemade one should be, none of the above stood out or even came anywhere close to my expectations and I could see the very same reaction on my friends' faces. I would generally rate these at 6/10. Decent but not great!

Loh Mai Kai @ RM 3.30

I felt that this Loh Mai Kai was not so good, just the same way I had felt the previous visit here. Firstly, the quantity was very little. The ingredients too were very stingy. And finally, the taste was just above average. No, didn't quite enjoy this and it was the same with the rest. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Bak Kut Teh @ RM 9.00

For those who have been following me for a while now, you would surely remember the other famous Bak Kut Teh places in town that I have blogged about. There was one which is my favourite that had a very deep bodied broth, another was medium bodied and I had mentioned that I would be sharing another place soon that comes with a very mild broth, this is it. I had seen this dish before but this would be the first time that I would be tasting it. For RM 9.00 , it came with a decent sized bowl filled with ribs and some lean meat along with a small bowl of rice. Honestly, it was not to my liking. Firstly, the broth was too light for me and seemed like one that was made using sauces instead of herbs. It must be so as there was no taste of herbs in the dish. The meat was tender and nice but due to the fact that the broth was too light for me, the entire dish became unappealing. Perhaps for those who would prefer the lighter broth,this might be suitable. For me, I must have a very strong and deep bodied broth to go with my Bak Kut Teh. Even the medium bodied one is tolerable but surely not this one. Based on my preferences, I would rate this at 4/10 .

In summary, it wasn't a great dining experience for any one of us. This is definitely better than those mass produced ones but not a master Dim Sum maker. Just someone who knows how to make Dim Sum. That aside, the hospitality was superb. The rest subsequently agreed that my initial rating of this place was correct. It was funny to see the look on their faces. I can't blame them too. Sometimes when the mind is fixed on having a particular dish, despite knowing that it may not be great, the craving would still be there. I've done that myself many a times. Would I recommend this place? I guess not. Okay if you're not expecting great quality but if you're one who is fussy with your food, then surely this would not be the place for you.
