Aunty Lan Homemade Noodles @ Kajang, Selangor

Aunty Lan Homemade Noodles is a noodle house that is located in Taman Berjaya Baru, on the Sungai Chua side of Kajang. Previously, they were based in Sunway Damansara and then, I used to visit them at least once a week since I love their Kimuchi Noodles and suddenly one weekend they disappeared. After many years, I am glad to have found them again and this time, in Sungai Chua.

Aunty Lan Homemade Noodles in Taman Berjaya Baru, Kajang

All their noodle dishes comes with a choice of homemade noodles and even their broth is very unique. It's a fusion between Chinese and Korean and that is why they have some strange names. That being said, I have tried a number of their noodle dishes along with their homemade sides and they have all been impressive. I arrived here pretty late in the evening and the boss had left. The staffs were manning the restaurant and they were very efficient.

Green Tea
I usually go for the set meals as that comes with one main dish, their signature Durian Cheese Cake and Green Tea. It's better to go for these sets as they are truly value for money. For me, their Green Tea seemed good and I would rate this 8/10.

Seoul Kimuchi Noodle (Set Meal) @ RM 15.50

Mushroom Pork Balls
This Seoul Kimuchi Noodles is my all time favourite at this restaurant. The broth is one that is perfectly suited to my taste buds. It's on the spicy side and is mildly sour. Along with that, the mix of ingredients that you get are quite amazing. Lots of anchovies are added to this dish as well and that gives it an extra punch. Not forgetting their homemade Mushroom Pork Balls which as simply out of this world. My overall rating for this dish shall be 9/10 and specifically for those Mushroom Pork Balls, 10/10.

Deep Fried Bean Curd @ RM 2.30
There are so many side dishes that I love here but since I am alone, there's only a certain amount that I could consume. That being the case, I went for my favourite Deep Fried Bean Curd. As always, their homemade Fuchok was excellent and it has a thin layer of pork stuffing in the middle. Truly tasty stuffs and I would rate this at 9/10.

Durian Cheese Cake
These people are one of the pioneers to roll out this Durian Cheese Cake many moons ago and the trend caught on. Nevertheless, the taste of this Cheese Cake here is simply a class of it's own. Best consumed cold and my rating for this shall be 9/10.

Bill For The Day
Aunty Lan Homemade Noodles has been a place that I have been dining for more than a decade now. Since the time that they had first opened their restaurant in Sunway Damansara and now relocated to Sungai Chua, I have been a loyal customer who had visited them at least once a week. The food here is a fusion between Chinese and Korean and it's so delicious. Not forgetting their Durian Cheese Cake which is amazingly good. If you happen to be in Sungai Chua area and you're looking for something different, I would recommend giving this place a try.

Siong Kee Pan Mee @ Kajang, Selangor

Siong Kee Pan Mee is a humble stall that is located within a housing area called Taman Jelita which is just along Jalan Reko. Previously, this place was known as Hung Kee Pan Mee but recently, though there was no change in ownership, the name had been changed to Siong Kee Pan Mee.

Home Converted Into A Business Place

Cooking Area At The Porch

Living Room Converted In To The Dining Space

A Humble Set Up
This stall has been around for a very long time and it has been run by the same family. Pretty much a house that has been converted into a place of business. Besides the seating area found in the living room, one could also find tables laid outside the house along the street. Business is open from Monday to Saturday and their business hours are from 5.30 pm till midnight.

Add On Menu

Dishes & Drinks

Order Chit
There are just a handful of dishes that are offered here but they are highly sought after. People come from afar looking for this stall and most of his customers have been with him for more than a decade. Prices are very reasonable as well. Ordering is quite simple. Each table comes with a menu and the order chit. Just fill in the details and pass it to his daughter. Within minutes, the dishes are prepared and sent over to the table. The Uncle handles are the noodles preparation while the add on fried stuffs is prepared by the Auntie at the kitchen. Rest assured, everything is fried / prepared upon order.

Curry Mee @ RM 5.30

A Good Mix Of Add On's In The Noodle

Very Tasty Curry

Their Signature Chili
I ordered the small bowl and it was priced at RM 5.30 . Really worth it as it came with lots of add on's like Cockles, Fish Balls, Fish Cake, Tofu and Char Siew. The curry itself was so thick and tasty. And a must add here is their homemade signature chili flakes which is added to your taste. I went for a spoonful since I like it spicy. Overall, a very delicious preparation and I would rate this Curry Mee at 8/10.

Fried Chicken Drumstick @ RM 3.00 each + 1 piece Chung Kin @ RM 1.00 each

Dip Sauce
Another highly famous dish here is their Fried Chicken. You could go for Wings or Drumstick based on your preference. I went for the Drumstick and it was priced at RM 3.00 each . The chicken was crispy and so juicy. I think it is coated with fermented red bean curd (Nam Yue) as it tasted something like that. Besides this, I also went for a piece of Chung Kin and it was equally good. Both these items deserve a 9/10.

I would say that this place is a hidden treasure in Kajang. A simple business based out their home and they have been going strong all these years. Their Curry Mee was extremely good and so was their Fried Chicken. For those who frequently use the MRT, this stall is a mere 2 minutes walk from the Kajang Station. A highly recommended place for Noodles.

Restoran Jayasri @ Kajang, Selangor

I had always thought that the Indian restaurants in Kajang were limited to those that are located along Jalan Reko and little did I know that there is another famous restaurant that is located in Sungai Chua. It was by chance that I came across this place as I was heading to a friends place and since it was about just the right time to have lunch, I decided to check the place out.

Restoran Jayasri In Taman Koperasi LLN
This restaurant is located in Taman Koperasi LLN. Assuming you're coming in to Kajang via Kajang Silk Highway, just after the Sungai Ramal Toll, turn off at the exit heading to Jalan Wan Siew and right after you turn, you'd be able to sight this restaurant on your right. There is ample of parking space here and so anytime of the day, you would not have difficulty parking.

Vegetarian Banana Leaf Meal @ RM 6.00 + Tofu Sambal @ RM 2.50
Their Basic Banana Leaf Meal set comes with rice, four vegetables, pickles, Appalam, choice of curries and Rasam and this is priced at RM 6.00 . This definitely seems like an excellent deal to me. Most places would only be serving three vegetables and charge pretty much the same. I also went for a plate of Tofu Sambal and this was a mere RM 2.50 . I had a glass of plain water and that was on the house. Small gestures like this does say a lot about this restaurant.

Four Vegetables

Rasam
The vegetables that they served this afternoon were Potato Perattal, Cabbage Perattal, Pumpkin and Long Beans. All the vegetables tasted really good and very much home cooked taste. The winner among these were the Potato Perattal and Pumpkin. These two, I would rate them at 9/10 and the other two, I would give them 8/10. Not forgetting the Rasam that came packed with spices. A Rasam that I totally enjoyed and for this, I shall rate it at 9/10.

Vegetable Kulambu

Keerai Curry
Their Vegetable Kulambu was nice but I would have preferred it to be a little more thicker. Otherwise, nothing to comment about it. As for this, I shall rate it at 7/10. Their Keerai Curry was more to my liking and this I would rate it at 8/10.

Tofu Sambal @ RM 2.50
Tofu Sambal was an add on that I took and this was priced at RM 2.50 per plate. Again, I find this to be very reasonable as I do know places that charge much more for this. The portion was huge as well and they were very generous with the ingredients. The gravy was thick and delicious and the Tofu cubes were just the right size. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

If you are looking for a good South Indian Banana Leaf restaurant in Kajang, my vote would definitely be for Restaurant Jayasri. Not only did I find the food to be good, the staffs were very pleasant and they serve you with passion. Prices are very reasonable as well and the restaurant itself is very clean. Definitely a place that I would be visiting more often.

Cheong Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Kajang, Selangor

Besides Hock Kee, Cheong Kee is another famous place in Kajang where the locals go for their Bak Kut Teh fix. I was told that both places have very similar style of preparation except that Cheong Kee has a lot more to offer in terms of variety. Being a Bak Kut Teh fan, I just could not resist visiting them and here I am this afternoon.

The Restaurant Located In Taman Berjaya Baru

Indoor And Outdoor Seating Space
Unlike Hock Kee that operates out of their home, Cheong Kee is located in the commercial area of Taman Berjaya Baru. They have taken up a corner unit and that gives customers ample seating space with both indoor and outdoor seating options.

They do have a very impressive menu covering a range of dishes beyond the scope of the usual Bak Kut Teh restaurant and I did see a number of customers who were ordering the other dishes as well. The place is crowded both for lunch and dinner and that is an indicator that the food has got to be good here. Orders are taken by the lady boss and the staffs are very efficient. Prices seemed reasonable too. Of course not as cheap as the ones that we get in Tanjung Malim but they still fall under the category of a day to day restaurant.

Brown Rice @ RM 1.50
The standard serving here come with Brown Rice which is priced at RM 1.50 per bowl. Of course, the usual White Rice is available too but that is only served when you specifically mention that you want to go for that. Otherwise, they would serve you this Brown Rice.

Bak Kut Teh @ RM 13.00
For the price, the portion was good and it came with a mix of lean meat (you could ask for bone or other cuts as well), Button Mushrooms, Enoki Mushrooms, Fuchok and some Tofupok. I felt that the soup here had a slightly stronger body compared to Hock Kee and overall as a total dish, it was very satisfying. Loved the mix of ingredients and the tea as well. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Zha Kuih @ RM 1.50
I am not sure if they prepare this on their own or get it from another supplier but their Zha Kuih was very fresh and tasty and it went perfectly well with the hot soup. A good side dish to have here with your Bak Kut Teh and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

Spicy Sliced Pork Belly @ RM 12.00
Interestingly, this dish was served in a wok and it looked so good. The aroma was so appetising the mix of ingredients were impressive. Prepared with lots of Dried Chillies, Okra and Onions, this was a dish that I very much enjoyed. Just the right level of spiciness as well. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

My Bill
Personally, I feel that Cheong Kee does some better Bak Kut Teh when compared to Hock Kee. The prices are much more reasonable and the medium bodied tea was more to my liking. Besides this, the variety of dishes that you get here is impressive as well.

Restoran Soong Kee SS2 @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I am sure that many of the Chinese food lovers would have heard of and perhaps even been to Soong Kee, Ho Wing Kee and Lo Yao Kee that's located along Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur. These are some famous eateries that have been around since the year 1945. Despite being three different stalls specialising in a specific range of dishes, they all belong to the same group. And here's the good news. You can now enjoy all these delicacies from these three stalls under one roof. Restoran Soog Kee SS2 that's located along Jalan SS 2/66 in Petaling Jaya brings together their best dishes under one roof, all for the comfort and convenience of their customers.

The Restaurant Located Along SS 2/66
It's not really difficult to locate this restaurant. If you know where DiGi outlet in SS 2 is, this restaurant is just a few doors away. Alternatively assuming that you're coming in from the LDP, you would turn left at LDP, keep going straight and turn right at the first turning. Once you have turned in here, you would see some houses on your right and the shops on your left. Keep going straight towards the end of the second block and you would come to this restaurant. Parking is always a challenge here and so it's best to come for breakfast.

Cutlery, Tissue And Everything Else That You May Need
The restaurant was so organised and I love the way they had neatly arranged the cutlery, tissue paper and the other items neatly in one corner of the table. Everything that you may possibly need was there and they were hygienically kept in closed containers and this includes the cutlery.

Even at the entrance, you get a blown up picture of their menu along with one of the newspaper write ups. The restaurant is air-conditioned and I would say is fairly trendy. Obviously one wouldn't expect very cheap prices here in SS2 bearing in mind the locality and the overall ambiance. In fact, for this area, I felt that the prices were quite reasonable. Once I was inside, this time the Lady Boss herself attended to me. She passed me a chit and a pencil and I had to fill in the orders in those tick boxes. It was very nice of her to take a few minutes and assist me with the ordering process.

Dry Wantan Noodles with Char Siew @ RM 6.90
When the above Kon Low Mee arrived, it did look odd to me. The noodles itself seemed different and even the Char Siew looked very different. But it all changed with the first bite and I was in love with this dish. The springy egg noodles were so different to the ones that I have tried before. They were so springy, soft and it was just so good. Words just can't describe that pleasure in my palate. The base sauce was perfect and overall it was just splendid. I would give this a 9/10. Now, their Char Siew was something else altogether. When I say melt in the mouth, this was the real melt in the mouth. It had the right balance of meat and fat, skillfully cut to just the right thickness and it was a divine experience. This is something that's out of this world and I'd give 9/10 for their Char Siew.

Wonton's In Clear Soup
This is provided along with the above dish. The clear soup was good but it wasn't the best that I have had. As for the soup, I'd give it a 7/10. The dumplings however were quite good. Meaty, chewy and juicy and the outer flour wasn't too thick which is just the way that it should be. My rating for this would be 8/10.

Business Hours
Having been one that has been in business since 1945, I am very impressed that they have managed to keep the taste consistent over the years, just like the one that you would get at the original stalls along Jalan Silang and the quality has not been altered, not even a little. The highlight of my meal today was definitely the Wantan Mee and Char Siew and I would love to have it again some time soon.
