Cheong Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Kajang, Selangor

Besides Hock Kee, Cheong Kee is another famous place in Kajang where the locals go for their Bak Kut Teh fix. I was told that both places have very similar style of preparation except that Cheong Kee has a lot more to offer in terms of variety. Being a Bak Kut Teh fan, I just could not resist visiting them and here I am this afternoon.

The Restaurant Located In Taman Berjaya Baru

Indoor And Outdoor Seating Space
Unlike Hock Kee that operates out of their home, Cheong Kee is located in the commercial area of Taman Berjaya Baru. They have taken up a corner unit and that gives customers ample seating space with both indoor and outdoor seating options.

They do have a very impressive menu covering a range of dishes beyond the scope of the usual Bak Kut Teh restaurant and I did see a number of customers who were ordering the other dishes as well. The place is crowded both for lunch and dinner and that is an indicator that the food has got to be good here. Orders are taken by the lady boss and the staffs are very efficient. Prices seemed reasonable too. Of course not as cheap as the ones that we get in Tanjung Malim but they still fall under the category of a day to day restaurant.

Brown Rice @ RM 1.50
The standard serving here come with Brown Rice which is priced at RM 1.50 per bowl. Of course, the usual White Rice is available too but that is only served when you specifically mention that you want to go for that. Otherwise, they would serve you this Brown Rice.

Bak Kut Teh @ RM 13.00
For the price, the portion was good and it came with a mix of lean meat (you could ask for bone or other cuts as well), Button Mushrooms, Enoki Mushrooms, Fuchok and some Tofupok. I felt that the soup here had a slightly stronger body compared to Hock Kee and overall as a total dish, it was very satisfying. Loved the mix of ingredients and the tea as well. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Zha Kuih @ RM 1.50
I am not sure if they prepare this on their own or get it from another supplier but their Zha Kuih was very fresh and tasty and it went perfectly well with the hot soup. A good side dish to have here with your Bak Kut Teh and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

Spicy Sliced Pork Belly @ RM 12.00
Interestingly, this dish was served in a wok and it looked so good. The aroma was so appetising the mix of ingredients were impressive. Prepared with lots of Dried Chillies, Okra and Onions, this was a dish that I very much enjoyed. Just the right level of spiciness as well. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

My Bill
Personally, I feel that Cheong Kee does some better Bak Kut Teh when compared to Hock Kee. The prices are much more reasonable and the medium bodied tea was more to my liking. Besides this, the variety of dishes that you get here is impressive as well.
