Restoran Lau Kee @ Kerling, Selangor

Usually, when I head down to Kuala Lumpur from Tanjung Malim, I would most often use the North South Highway instead of the old state road. As the traffic was pretty bad on the highway this evening with back to back traffic for almost 45 Kilometres, we decided to use the old state road instead. Thanks to Waze for alerting us in advance. Kerling is a town that I visit often but we never really ventured much into the food scene here. As it was close to 9 pm, we decided to stop by at Restoran Lau Kee which is located in Kampung Signal, Kerling and it is just by the side of the state road.

The Restaurant

Indoor & Outdoor Seating Areas
This restaurant seems to be very famous with the locals. In fact, even the local MP was having his dinner there this evening. In terms of space, they have a huge dining area. A large outdoor dining area, another large indoor dining area and a reasonably sized private air-conditioned dining room which could easily accommodate around 30 pax. Ordering was simple as we knew what we wanted to order. Since it was just the two of us, we couldn't order much either. So, that part was taken care fairly quickly. The owners seemed very friendly and they seemed to know most of their patrons by name. Another thing that I really liked about this restaurant is the parking space. They had a huge parking area and that's a plus point.

Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM 15.00

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 8.00
Despite there being quite a number of customers, they were able to serve fairly quickly. I think, in less than 15 minutes, we got our dishes. Their Sweet & Sour Pork was nicely done and they were crispy and topped with some delicious tomato based gravy. The mix of crunchy veggies in the dish was also good. I would rate this preparation at 8/10. Similarly, their Kangkung Belacan was also good. The greens were fresh, not overcooked and the shrimp paste was just nice. They had also added small dried shrimps to boost the taste. Similarly, this too deserves a rating of 8/10.

Salted Egg Squid @ RM 16.00
Their Salted Egg Squid was good too but not as great as the earlier dishes. They had actually been too generous with the salted eggs and that made it a tad too salty. Otherwise, the squid was fried to a crips and it wasn't greasy. My rating for this dish shall be 7/10.

Generally, I find the food here to be pretty good. For two meat dishes and one vegetable, the price tag of under RM 40 is definitely a good deal. Service is speedy and I enjoyed the lovely ambiance. Definitely a good place to head for dinner in Kerling, Selangor.
