La Boulangerie @ Colmar Tropicalle, Pahang

Colmar Tropicalle, a French themed resort is located in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. Owned by Berjaya Group, this place has been around for many years now. We first visited this place some 6 years ago, when it was just opened and decided on dropping by for some cool crisp weather this evening. It is just a 45 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur and is very much suitable for both day trips as well as short stays.

Lovely Place

Built Just Like The One in France
Over the years, the place had not changed a bit. Paved streets built alike to the one in France with quaint little restaurants and hotel rooms on both sides, the place is a joy to visit all year round. It is just a short stretch and is perfect for those looking for a place to unwind. There are some activities outside this area which would excite children and they do provide shuttle services from this resort to those parks. All within 10 minutes of travel distance. Generally the weather here is cool come evenings but the rest of the day, it is quite hot. I think this is a seasonal one and it tends to be cooler towards end of the year. After walking around for a while, we wanted to have some light snacks. They have a number of restaurants to choose from. Most of them serve French food but there are one or two restaurants that have added a few Malaysian dishes. Perhaps this might be one that was done because of demand. Initially, I remember that it was all strictly French cuisine but perhaps, the reception from Malaysians had not been that great and hence this diversification. Having been in the mood for light snacks only, we decided on trying the French Bakery called La Boulangerie.

The selection was good and it covered a decent spread of buns, bread, cakes and sandwiches. This is a self service restaurant and we would have to pretty much do most of the carrying ourselves except for fixing the drinks which is done by the barista at the cashier who also handles the cash register as well as cleaning the tables once patrons have left. Prices are steep but this is one that we cannot complain as it is a self contained resort and would be a hassle to drive down all the way to Bentong or the nearest town for a meal. Since most people come here to relax, I doubt any one of them would head out for a meal. After all, it's just a brief stay for many.

It was a beautiful evening and the temperature was starting to drop and so we opted sitting outdoors instead of indoors. The view is just beautiful and it allows you to just drop all your worries and enjoy the atmosphere. Now, time to enjoy some French food!

Ice Lemon Tea @ RM 13.00

Drinking Water @ RM 4.50 per Bottle
My brother had the above Ice Lemon Tea and my Dad and I went for a bottle of Drinking Water each. As mentioned earlier, prices are steep here and that glass of Ice Lemon Tea was priced at RM 13.00 and a small bottle of Drinking Water at RM 4.50 . Well, can't complain much about the prices I guess. Coming back to that Ice Lemon Tea, it was good. I mean really good and makes me think that it was worth the price. I would rate that drink at 9/10 .

Bun Filled with Strawberry Jam and Topped with Cheese @ RM 7.50

Bun Filled with Strawberry Jam and Topped with Cheese @ RM 7.50
This Bun filled with Strawberry Jam and topped with Cheese was just amazing. The taste was so good and the ingredients were just melting in the mouth and the bun itself was so soft. Truly a delicious one that we all enjoyed. I would rate this at 10/10 , nothing less that that!

Bun Topped with Cheese and Pickled Vegetables @ RM 6.00

Bun Topped with Cheese and Pickled Vegetables @ RM 6.00
Once again, this did not fail to impress us. A simple bun that had been topped with cheese and some pickled greens but it tasted so good and I wonder how they make their buns so perfectly. It was just lovely and I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

French Baguette with Spicy Fish Toppings @ RM 7.00

French Baguette with Spicy Fish Toppings @ RM 7.00
This was just heavenly. A simple slice of French Baguette, topped with some spicy fish and baked to perfection. Amazing it was! I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Night View
It was just lovely sitting at the bakery and enjoying both the lovely view and the amazing food till late evening and it was simply the perfect detox that we needed from our day to day schedule. Come 7 pm daily, they also have some dance shows and there are repeats a few times daily. This time, it was a troupe from The Philippines. We had a good view of the stage from the bakery, and as such we did not bother to move from our seats and since the place was a little quiet at this hour, the management too did not mind us sitting there. In summary, I would highly recommend this Bakery. Good food and lovely ambiance.

Caffe Ritazza @ Changi International Airport, Singapore

Having had an early flight in to Singapore with meetings ahead for the rest of the day, I had no choice but to have breakfast at the airport. I had already exited the Immigration Counters and went over to the Departure Hall in Terminal 1 as I know that they have a number of good places to have breakfast there. There were a few choices and I choose this place called Caffe Ritazza.

Caffe Ritazza @ Terminal 1

Interior of the Cafe
It was a beautifully designed cafe with ample seating spaces and at this time of the day, they were quite empty although I would have expected quite a number of people having breakfast there. They were manned by some young Singaporean guys who were very friendly and working speedily.

Ordering here is quite simple. All the items are clearly stacked on the glass counters and you would just have to choose based on your preference. You also have an option of having them cold or hot. That was when I was introduced to the breakfast set which seemed like a good value for money deal. Starting from SGD 9.50, you get a main dish plus orange juice and coffee or tea. I was not in the mood for a very heavy breakfast and thus went for the Pork Bacon and English Muffin Set which costs SGD 9.50 .A full breakfast for less than ten dollars in the airport is definitely a good deal. I then finalised my order, paid and went on to my chosen table and the food would be sent over when ready.

Orange Juice
The food was sent in about ten minutes. I went for the Orange Juice first. It was served cold and nice and the juice was really concentrated and pure. Definitely a undiluted high quality juicy. I would rate this drink at 10/10 .

Coffee and Fresh Milk

My Coffee
I like the way they serve coffee. It comes black with cold fresh milk, just the way I would prefer and I am able to fix it according to my preference. They definitely use good coffee beans and it has been brewed well. Again, a 10/10 for this.

Pork Bacon with English Muffin

The Muffin Exposed
My...my...this was heavenly. There was a really long streak of Pork Bacon, loaded with eggs and cheese and a muffin done perfect. Stacked together, they were heavenly and every bite brought about a whole load of different tastes in the palate and it was all good. Or perhaps I should say that it was too good. I would again rate this at a 10/10 .

Overall, I have just discovered my favourite breakfast place in Changi Airport. I am sure that I would not miss this place in future and would love to try their other dishes as their menu changes depending on the time of the day. These guys are definitely doing a great job with the food and by keeping their prices decently low, I am sure they would attract a great crowd and a fan group.

Tange Restaurant & Cafe @ Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya

Tange Restaurant and Cafe is located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. I believe that they may have recently changed their name to the present name from Kafe Tangerine Living. I was in the vicinity when I stumbled upon this place and as it was close to dinner time, we decided to have dinner here. It is located right beside Citibank and is clearly visible from the main trunk road of Damansara Perdana. If you are driving, there is a paid parking space right in front of this restaurant which does not cost much for short duration parking.

Outdoor Seating Space

Indoor Dining Area
This restaurant has a small space for outdoor dining and a reasonably large space for indoor dining. The design is also very nice and cosy. With the present haze condition, I definitely prefer to be seated inside. All their staffs were foreigners but they spoke decent English and were quite efficient in the service. I did see some comments on Foursquare complaining about the slow service but we did not face such a situation today and I honestly felt that the service was good.

The Menu
The above photographs cover their entire menu except for their lunch and dinner sets meals. They did have some value for money deals which were mostly priced at around RM 10.90 . We preferred to go Ala Carte. They definitely have a great range of offering and the prices seemed very reasonable to me. Just waiting to see the portion sizes. We decided on the dishes and passed our orders on to the waitress.

Honey Lemon @ RM 4.90
Angie ordered the above Honey Lemon drink. I must admit that the service here was really fast and we started receiving our orders in no time. Back to this drink, it was pretty good. There were loads of honey in it and definitely worth the price. I would rate this drink at 9/10 .

Coca Cola @ RM 3.50
I ordered the above Coca Cola and for a Cafe, the price paid seemed reasonable to me.

Tomato Soup @ RM 6.00
The daily soup is prepared on rotation and today, it was the above Tomato Soup. In my opinion, the soup was really good. It was thick, pure and delicious. A highly recommended starter here. I would rate the above soup at 9.5/10 .

Sauteed Sausage with Onions @ RM 7.90
This was another excellent dish. It was on the spicy side, must be contributed by the black pepper that was added into the dish but the dish was really nice. The only negative point here is the volume of sausages. I feel that for the price, there should have been  much more. Yet, based on the taste, I will still rate this dish at 9.2/10 .

Arrabiatta Penne @ RM 10.00
A lovely Pasta this was. At RM 10.00, the portion size was very decent. This dish is a mixture of Fresh Tomato Sauce, Sweet Basil and Penne. Very well done and we thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Black Pepper Lamb Chop @ RM 18.00

Sauteed Mushrooms

Two Large Chunks of Meat
The Black Pepper Lamb Chop was huge. For RM 18.00, the dish was very satisfying as it came with two huge chunks of lamb, sauteed mushrooms & carrots, Salad and Potato Wedges. There was a lavish amount of black pepper sauce and the meat was nicely done. I feel it could have been better if the meat was marinated a little longer but still it was nice. I have never seen a Lamb Chop of this size, at this price in the Klang Valley. Truly a value for money dish. I would rate this dish at 8.3/10 . The slightly lower rating is mainly contributed by the meat not being sufficiently marinated and with slight improvements including adding some honey in it, would greatly improve this dish.

Grilled Chicken Chop @ RM 15.00
This dish was also very nice. It came with a large piece of Grilled Chicken, lavish amount of mushroom sauce, some crinkle cut fries and salad. The dish was very well prepared, nicely grilled and the mushroom sauce was nice. The fries may have been slightly over fried but that's negligible. At RM 15.00, this is definitely a good choice. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .

Overall, we were truly satisfied with this restaurant. I found their service to be good, food to be great and price definitely very attractive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
