Freond Tavern @ Puchong, Selangor

We visited Freond Tavern a couple of weeks back. Having been impressed by the food during our last visit, we decided to drop by again for dinner today. This time around, we were here much earlier and were hoping to try more dishes compared to the last time.

Indoor Dining Space

This restaurant is located in Block G of Setia Walk, Puchong. Parking is convenient and if you know the block number, you could park near the lift that brings you up to this restaurant. There are many ongoing promotions that they have but these are mostly suitable to larger groups. Do note that this is a pub cum restaurant but the overall ambiance is lovely and it good for families.

Coca Cola @ RM 9.00

There was an ongoing promotion for beers and since we had some friends that were in the mood for some beers, they decided to go for this. RM 60.00 for 5 mugs of ice cold Carlsberg Draft surely is a good deal. My can of Coca Cola however was priced at RM 9.00 . Well, being a pub, I can't complaint as they would always encourage you to go for alcoholic beverages. The selection of beer and wine that they have here was quite impressive and they had many promotions for beers which seemed like an amazing deal. So, if you're a beer lover, do take advantage of these promotions. 

Grilled Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 20.90

Grilled Pork Tenderloin @ RM 22.90

Just like the last visit, their Grilled Chicken Chop was truly excellent. The cuts were good with and they were really tender. The accompanying Black Pepper Sauce was really good too. Their sides are quite standard across their dishes and I would say that the Fries were crisp and good. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Grilled Pork Tenderloin was excellent as well. Despite being Pork, the meat was so tender and it came with almost no fat. Definitely one of the good Pork Tenderloin dishes that I have recently eaten. Again, 9/10 shall be my rating for this dish. 

Grilled Lamb Cutlets @ RM 22.80

Salmon Fillet @ RM 30.90

Their Grilled Lamb Cutlets were truly divine. They were done according to the old school style, a style that is slowly disappearing in Malaysia and for me, it was like a dream come true. Being able to taste something this good after a long time was indeed satisfying. Prices were very reasonable and they came with a dash of mint sauce and mashed potatoes. 10/10 would be my rating for this. Just as good as the earlier dish was their Salmon Fillet. Quality cuts were served and the accompanying sauce went so well with the fish. The fish itself was so juicy and heavenly. 9/10 shall be my rating for this. 

Chicken Wings @ RM 16.80

As the last dish, we went for their Chicken Wings. Three full wings with drummers were served on a platter, smoked using BBQ Sauce and it was reasonably priced at RM 16.80 . Taste wise, it was good as well and my rating for this shall be 8/10. 

Bill For The Evening

For some good Western Food in Puchong, Freond Tavern would be my choice of restaurant. All the dishes that we had this evening were good and their prices are very reasonable. Whether it's Fish, Chicken, Lamb or even Pork, they do it extremely well. A must try for Western food lovers.

Freond Tavern @ Puchong, Selangor

Freond Tavern is a restaurant cum pub that is located in Block G, Setia Walk. I was told that this place does some really amazing Western Food. Being a fan of Western cuisine, we decided to drop by for dinner this evening. 

Indoor Seating Area

The place had a lovely ambiance. Unlike most pub cum cafes that seem to be quite noisy, this place was more suited for families who are mainly looking for some good food along with some drinks. The entire indoor dining area was very nicely designed and it had a very welcoming feeling to it. The outdoor seating area is designed more like a watering hole. For those who are looking for wine, they do have an amazing collection of wines as well. 

The above are just a few pages from their menu. They had a wide selection of dishes ranging from local to Western cuisine. Prices seemed very reasonable to me. In fact, I would say that they were very cheap. Do note that although this place is opened till midnight daily, the cut off time for the kitchen is 10.30 pm. 

Coca Cola @ RM 9.00

Lemon Tea @ RM 8.00

Their customer service was awesome and the waiters were quick to attend to customer's needs. As for their drinks, I would say that their Lemon Tea was good. Made using quality tea and heavily infused with Lemon, it was truly refreshing and I shall rate this at 8/10. 

Chicken Chop in Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 20.90

Pork Tenderloin in Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 22.90

We had ordered some dishes that we shared among the two of us. All their Western sets comes with Fries and some Salad. Portions were good and definitely a pretty good deal for the price. Their Chicken Chop was really nice. The meat was tender, grilled just right and the black pepper sauce complimented the dish really well. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Pork Tenderloin was amazing. I wonder how the meat was so soft and tender. I believe they may have marinated the meat with beer. Once again, it was an excellent preparation and I would definitely give this 10/10. 

Lamb Cutlets @ RM 22.80

Their Lamb Cutlets were another marvelous preparation. The taste of the lamb was so good and it reminded me of the Lamb Chops that we used to get back in the 80's. A long lost taste that is almost impossible to find these days. Beautiful cuts with almost no bone served with mint sauce. My rating for this shall be 10/10 as well. 

For some amazing Western food in Puchong, I would recommend Freond Tavern. Each and every dish that we had tasted was amazing and the meat was so tender and juicy. The highlight was definitely their Lamb Cutlets. Very reasonable prices, excellent customer service and heavenly food.

Tino's Pizza Express @ Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur

Bangsar South is a place that has tremendously transformed in the recent years. When I used to visit this place a couple of years back, there were only a handful of eateries. Today, there are so many choices. This afternoon, we were at Bangsar South and decided to give Tony's Pizza Express a try.

Very Catchy Designs

This outlet is located on the Ground Floor of Nexus Bangsar South and their business hours are 10 to 10, daily. Their concept was simple and I loved the chic designs. Service levels were excellent too and their staffs were very friendly and helpful. 

They had a good variety of pizza's and they were reasonably priced. As for the crust options, both classic and thin crust were available. Since my friend was a vegetarian, we decided to go for any one of the vegetarian pizzas and finally decided on the Margherita Pizza. 

Margherita Pizza (M) @ RM 21.90

We had initially wanted to order two pizza's but the waiter informed us that one is good for two. Luckily she did stop us as it was really huge. The Margherita Pizza comes with cherry tomatoes, grada padano, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. I found the ingredients to be good and even the bread was soft and lovely. Together, it was definitely a good one and my rating for this shall be 8/10. 

Tino's Pizza does offer some very good pizza's and the variety that is available is impressive. Their pizza's are tasty and reasonably priced. Vegetarian options are available too. If you're around Bangsar South, I would recommend giving this place a try.

Coliseum Cafe @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Coliseum Cafe has been one of my all time favourite Western restaurants. I have been patronising this restaurant for more than 40 years now. Initially, it has been their outlet along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and of late, the other two outlets located in Jaya 33 and Gardens Mall. It has been a while that we visited them, should be at least a year now and after the sabbatical, we're back here this afternoon for lunch.

This particular outlet is located in Jaya 33, Petaling Jaya and parking is convenient. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas as well. The theme across all their restaurant are the same and it is great that they are maintaining the classic ambiance. Their menu has surely been growing and the prices getting higher, but if they maintain the same authentic taste, then it is surely worth it. Service is and has always been excellent here and the waiters are really professional. Since were knew exactly what we wanted, the ordering process was a breeze for us.

Mushroom Soup @ RM 10.90

Bun

We had ordered Coca Cola and they came in these tall glasses. Each was priced at RM 4.50 . It seems like the one from the tall 1.5 L bottles but they were good and the gas was intact. We had also ordered some Mushroom Soup for starters and these were priced at RM 10.90 each. The soup was awesome and it came with a bun. A mix of ground mushrooms were used to make the soup and not the off the shelf Campbells Soup. Taste wise, it had remained consistent over the years and my rating for this shall be 9/10. Their bun however should have been heated up and this one that was served was cold. That was a setback that we encountered this trip. I believe that they should rectify this and return to how it has been always served before.

Fried Anchovies @ RM 12.90

All of us went for the Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chop Set which was priced at RM 52.90 . In this set, you get the above Salad as well as Wedges and Veggies. Both were good and my rating for them shall be 9/10. Another one of our favourites here is the Fried Anchovies. I find the preparation here to be really good. The price is now RM 12.90 and we found the portion to be decent. Preparation was good and again, this too deserves a rating of 9/10. Do note that this is a spicy dish and comes with lot's of bird eye chillies. 

Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chops

Four Large Cuts In A Hotplate

It wasn't too long and the chops were served. The cuts were as big as they usually are and they were served in the same piping hot sizzling style. The meat was nicely done. However, the sauces slacked. It was not close to what it had used to be. Seriously, I found it difficult to have it on it's own and had to go for the Lingham Sauce which isn't my usual practice here. This was a let down as I used to totally love the Chops here. If I were rate this dish, my rating would be 6/10 only. 

Our Bill

Coliseum Cafe has been one of my favourite Western restaurants for a very long time. Their service levels are excellent and we are glad that it has remained consistently so. All the sides were great, absolutely loved them. However, our mains, the Sizzling New Zealand Lamb Chops were a let down. The cuts were lovely and they were nicely done. However, the sauce was just not quite there, thus bringing the whole dish down with it. I do hope that they improve on this flaw and return to the quality that they had always been known for.

Wood & Steel @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Wood & Steel is a cafe that is located in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya. It is around The Strand area and is facing the Giant Hypermarket. I was made to understand that they have been around for a number of years now and they have a good set of loyal customers. 

Unique Design

The name is so suitable as that is what the design theme is all about. They have used lots of materials from the yesteryear's and that gives it such a rustic feeling when dining at this cafe. Truly amazing concept and it feels so comfortable. Space wise, they are rather limited as it isn't a very huge cafe. 

The available spread isn't huge but I guess it's rather sufficient to keep serving items that you're good at and keeping the menu simple. Most if not all their dishes are Western cuisine and their prices seem pretty reasonable. They have some interesting drinks on offer too. Concept, is semi self service. Head up to the counter, place your orders and pay. Once ready, the dishes would be sent over to your table. Rather practical concept as it keeps their operations straight forward, less mistakes and less waiters needed to man the floor. 

Iced Peach Tea @ RM 8.00

I ordered the above Iced Peach Tea which was priced at RM 8.00 and it was seriously good. The flavours were awesome and concentrated. Not those watered down versions that you commonly get. My rating for this drink is definitely 9/10. 

Classic Burger @ RM 19.00

Classic Fish & Chips @ RM 21.00

Their Classic Burger was decent. The patty was of a sizable portion and it came with some fries on the side. Taste wise, it was moderately juicy but the bun was a little dry. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Fish & Chips too was nice. Again, this too came with some fries on the sides. I found the outer crust to be a tad too dry, otherwise it was sufficiently juicy on the inside. Again, one that would get a rating of 7/10 from me.

For a decent Western meal in Kota Damansara, I would recommend trying Wood & Steel. The food is nice and the concept is something very unique. Prices are reasonable too and the overall ambiance is lovely.
