Vegetarian Food Stall at Neighbourhood Food Court @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

At some point in time, I used to visit Kota Damansara almost daily for dinner. There are so many good food outlets here and at any point in time on any day, you would have so many places to choose from . One such favourite places of mine for a good vegetarian lunch would be Neighbourhood Food Court. 

The Chinese Vegetarian Stall

Excellent Variety

Neighbourhood Food Court has a lot to offer in terms of variety but this place basically comes to live in the evenings. For lunch, there are just a handful of operators that are open. I specifically like this Vegetarian Stall because of the variety that they have and their prices are very reasonable. This stall is located right at the main entrance as you walk in from the street side and not the car park side. Another good thing about this place is the easy availability of parking. There is a multi storey car park that is attached to this food court and that makes things even more easier. 

My Lunch @ RM 6.00

I took a number of items and they had only charged me RM 6.00 for my meal. The food was good and they were fresh. My rating for the food here shall be 8/10. 

For a good Chinese Vegetarian lunch in Kota Damansara, I would recommend heading to Neighbourhood Food Court which is located in Sunway Damansara area. Right at the entrance, there is a Chinese Vegetarian stall and the variety that you get is really good. Tasty food and reasonable prices.

Wood & Steel @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Wood & Steel is a cafe that is located in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya. It is around The Strand area and is facing the Giant Hypermarket. I was made to understand that they have been around for a number of years now and they have a good set of loyal customers. 

Unique Design

The name is so suitable as that is what the design theme is all about. They have used lots of materials from the yesteryear's and that gives it such a rustic feeling when dining at this cafe. Truly amazing concept and it feels so comfortable. Space wise, they are rather limited as it isn't a very huge cafe. 

The available spread isn't huge but I guess it's rather sufficient to keep serving items that you're good at and keeping the menu simple. Most if not all their dishes are Western cuisine and their prices seem pretty reasonable. They have some interesting drinks on offer too. Concept, is semi self service. Head up to the counter, place your orders and pay. Once ready, the dishes would be sent over to your table. Rather practical concept as it keeps their operations straight forward, less mistakes and less waiters needed to man the floor. 

Iced Peach Tea @ RM 8.00

I ordered the above Iced Peach Tea which was priced at RM 8.00 and it was seriously good. The flavours were awesome and concentrated. Not those watered down versions that you commonly get. My rating for this drink is definitely 9/10. 

Classic Burger @ RM 19.00

Classic Fish & Chips @ RM 21.00

Their Classic Burger was decent. The patty was of a sizable portion and it came with some fries on the side. Taste wise, it was moderately juicy but the bun was a little dry. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Fish & Chips too was nice. Again, this too came with some fries on the sides. I found the outer crust to be a tad too dry, otherwise it was sufficiently juicy on the inside. Again, one that would get a rating of 7/10 from me.

For a decent Western meal in Kota Damansara, I would recommend trying Wood & Steel. The food is nice and the concept is something very unique. Prices are reasonable too and the overall ambiance is lovely.

Fifth Palate @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Fifth Palate is a Western Restaurant that is located in Encorp Strand Garden Office, Kota Damansara. This restaurant specialises in all day big breakfast concept along with a handful of other dishes. Besides these Western platters, they also have a handful of Japanese dishes as well.

Located in this business district, Fifth Palate does attract a loyal following. This restaurant is located on the first floor and is easily accessible from the car park. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas and the place has a beautiful conceptual design. 

Besides the elaborate menu, they do have some value for money set lunch as well. Prices are not cheap but being a place that serves some niche food, I guess it's okay to charge such prices.

Once you have decided on what to order, one would have to proceed to the counter, place your orders, pay for them and then a number would be allocated for you. Somewhat similar to the fast food concept of prepaying for your meals. 

Black Coffee + Milk @ RM 2.00 (For The Milk)

We had ordered the Butcher's Platter and with that, comes two Black Coffee. I did ask for some milk for one of it and that was an add on of RM 2.00 . Their coffee was quite basic. If I was to rate this, I would give it 8/10. 

Fried Squid With Chilli Mayo @ RM 12.00

Honestly, this was nothing to shout about. I felt that the squid was too thinly sliced and it had an oily aftertaste to it. The Chili Mayo was nice. However, the squid having that odd aftertaste was not to my liking. My rating for this shall be 6/10. 

Butcher's Platter @ RM 58.00 + Extra Bacon @ RM 8.00

This Butcher's Platter was huge and it came with an assortment of items. Two kinds of Pork Sausages, Waffles, Ham, Bacon, Mushrooms, Cherry Tomatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Honey, Salted Butter and Hash Browns. I felt that the price of the platter was justifiable but the add on of RM 8.00 for the Bacon was a little too high. Anyway, it was a royal meal and it was good for two large eaters. Definitely they had invested in good quality food items and they were really tasty. My rating for this shall be 8/10. 

If you're in the mood for a heavy breakfast, then I would suggest going for their Butcher's Platter. This is definitely good to feed two heavy eaters and it comes with two cups of coffee. The food items were definitely of a good quality the preparation was good. The cafe has a lovely ambience and the staffs are very friendly. An ideal place to have business discussions too.

Hameediyah @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

Hameediyah has been on list of 'To Visit' restaurants for a while now. It is going to be almost one year since they opened this branch in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya and I have attempted to visit them many times in the past but always some thing comes up and the plan get's postponed. Thankfully, I was able to visit them this afternoon.

These guy's are the pioneers of Nasi Kandar. Having started in Penang in the year 1907, they are more than a century old and throughout this period, the business had been passed down through many generations and they have successfully managed to keep the standards good. Every time I head to Penang, I make it a point to dine here at least once since I find the food to be really good and I was so glad that they have finally expanded to the Klang Valley. If you plan to visit this outlet, I would suggest parking inside Sunway Nexis and not in Sunway Damansara area as parking is much easier on this side. For now, it is still free and you can easily get a parking compared to the other side which takes ages. 

Iced Tea @ RM 1.60

This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Indoors is best as the place is air-conditioned, unless you're a smoker, then outdoors works better. I was here at around 3.30 pm and even then, there was a reasonable crowd at that hour. People were still queuing up but it wasn't that bad. I probably had around 8 people ahead of me. Once I got my food, I then placed my drink orders and walked over to one of the tables. Soon, my drink arrived. Their Iced Tea was nicely done, perfectly balanced between the tea dust and milk and not too many ice cubes as well. I would rate this drink at 9/10. 

My Lunch @ RM 21.80

Since I was really yearning for this, I did go for quite a bit. I choose a mix of curries to go with the rice and along with that, their signature Ayam Kampung Bawang, some Sotong Curry and Mysore Mutton and this lot cost me RM 21.80 . Very reasonable for that heap that I just took. I was expecting the price to be much more because of the brand and location but it turned out to be just this.

Just like any typical Nasi Kandar meal, messy is the name of the game here and I too went for a mix of curries. The blend of flavours that you get from that is absolutely exotic and heavenly and it takes a true Malaysian to appreciate this. For me, it was up to my expectations and I would give this 8/10. Mysore Mutton was one that I totally loved. The mutton cubes were just of the right cut size and they were cooked in a thick gravy. Very delicious and I would give this 9/10.

Sotong Curry

The Ayam Kampung Bawang was indeed such a huge piece. You can't see it entirely here as most of it had been submerged in that plate. Fried to a crisp and it did taste good. This is actually their most sought after food item and I would definitely recommend going for it. My rating for it shall be 8/10. Their Sotong Curry was good too. Large chunks of cuttlefish and sliced beautifully and cooked in a thick, mildly spicy gravy. And most importantly, they were not chewy like some of those old stock that we get at certain restaurants. Another one that I would rate at 8/10. 

For an original Nasi Kandar meal comprising of Chicken, Mutton and Cuttlefish to be priced at RM 21.80 , I would say that the prices were very reasonable. The food was good and this place surely lives up to it's reputation.

Curry Puff Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

I have blogged about quite a number of stalls from this restaurant and another one that I felt worthy highlighting is the Curry Puffs Stall that's located in this restaurant. I believe this stall is owned by the landlords themselves and is manned by some foreign staffs.

They have a range of cakes and pastries which even extends to some Nyonya Cakes. All pastries are freshly baked daily and is available from 10 am onwards till they are sold out. Mostly, by around 2 pm, they'd be mostly done. For the size, the prices seemed very reasonable to me. 

Curry Puffs @ RM 2.20 each

Both of the above are my favourites at this restaurant. Their Curry Puffs are pretty huge, almost fills up an adult male's palm and is filled with curried potatoes and chicken. Comes with a rough crunchy skin that's so tasty on it's own. Their Kaya Puffs however has a soft, silky outer skin and the filling was heavenly. For both the cakes, I would rate them 9/10. 

Siew Pau @ RM 2.00 each

Egg Tarts @ RM 1.80 each

Their Siew Pau had a very hard outer crust which was not to my liking. I somehow prefer the Seremban one which in my opinion, is much better than this one. The Egg Tarts were good but there's surely room to improve. These, I would rate them at 8/10. 

Nyonya Cakes

Besides the above, they also have some Nyonya Cakes and buns. I did not try these as I don't really fancy them. Nevertheless, they looked pretty good.

Based on the pastries that I have tried, I would recommend going for their Curry Puffs and Kaya Puffs. Those were definitely good!

Prawn Mee Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

Back to Big Family Restaurant after some weeks now. One amazing thing about this place is the choices that you have. So many stalls under one roof and even if I went on a spree to try all the stalls, I guess it would take me more than a month. For those who have missed my previous entries on this food court, this is located in Sungai Buloh Industrial Park which is right at the border of Kota Damansara and Sungai Buloh. If you're familiar with the area where Restoran Khalifah is, then it's easy as this place is located along that very same row. 

Stall Selling Prawn Mee and Curry Mee

Dishes And Prices Displayed

This stall is located on the far right of the food court. There's only two dishes here, Prawn Mee and Curry Mee and both are priced at RM 6.50 per bowl. It's best to come here just before lunch or after lunch as the crowd get's really huge during those hours. It's not only difficult to get a place to sit but also the fact that you would need to queue up to place your orders.

In a matter of minutes, the dish was sent over to the table. A huge bowl filled with your choice of noodles, hard boiled eggs, fish cake, shrimps and spinach served in a delicious broth. 

Truly A Good Bowl Of Prawn Mee

This is another dish that solely relies on the broth for it's taste and that being the case, I must agree that these guy's have done a good job. The broth was just perfect, not too oily and had a very balanced flavour. I would rate this bowl of noodles at 8/10. 

Overall, a very satisfying bowl of Prawn Mee. If you happen to be in this area, I would strongly  recommend to give these guys a try. Besides this, there's easily another 30 or 40 stalls to try as well. So, it's definitely worth the visit.

Chee Cheong Fun Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

The last few weeks, I have been visiting this restaurant at least once a week and here I am again. I have tried the food from a few stalls but how can one not have any more choices here. There are easily 25 to 30 stalls in total. As for today, let me try the Chee Cheong Fun stall.

Assorted Fish Balls, Fish Paste and Tofu

The Chee Cheong Fun stall is located on the far right side of the shop. Besides the usual sauce based Chee Cheong Fun, he also sells Curry Chee Cheong Fun as well. Business is definitely good as there were a number of customers who were waiting in line to select the Yong Tau Fu items and I was impressed with the variety that he had. That speaks volumes on the daily sales. After having selected what I wanted, I handed those to his assistant and was back to my table.

In a matter of minutes, the dish was sent over to the table and it definitely looked good. As far as the Chee Cheong Fun is concerned, he has the rolled one as well as the flat one and so, you could choose whichever you prefer. 

Generous With The Sauces

He was definitely generous with the sauces and had been careful in placing the chili sauce on to the side. This is good as each person would have a varying level as to how much chili is needed and this way, they can scoop as much as they need to enjoy their meal. 

Even the tofu and fish balls tasted great. In summary, this is definitely a good plate of Chee Cheong Fun. No wonder business is good for him. I would give this preparation a 8/10. Definitely a stall that I would recommend!
