Restoran Mahbub @ Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

I have tried Mutton Soup in a number of restaurants across the Klang Valley but none comes close to the preparation from Restoran Mahbub. Having been in the mood to have some Mutton Soup this evening, we drove all the way to Damansara Damai just for this.

The Restaurant in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

Teh Tarik
For those who live around Petaling Jaya area, it would be best to head to their outlet in Damansara Damai and for those who live around Kuala Lumpur, you could visit their outlet that is located in Lucky Garden, Bangsar. As for me, the nearest would be Damansara Damai and that is why we were here this evening. This restaurant is open 24 hours daily and despite it being crowded round the clock, they have sufficient manpower to manage the crowd and because of that, they are always fast to attend to customers needs. Their Teh Tarik is something that should not be missed as it find it to be really good. Rating wise, I would give this 9/10.

Sup Kambing (Mutton Soup)

Comes With Decent Mutton Cuts
They have both Chicken and Mutton Soup and being a mutton lover, I always go for the latter. The soup is prepared with lots of spices and comes with generous portion of mutton cuts. If you're one who loves a good bowl of spicy Mutton Soup, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Restoran Mahbub @ Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

Restaurant Mahbub is the restaurant that dominates the Indian Muslim food scene in Damansara Damai. Being located along the main access road in and out of Damansara Damai, they operate 24 hours a day and all throughout the day, they have a steady flow of customers right from breakfast to the wee hours of the night. Besides this particular outlet in Damansara Damai, they also have another outlet in Bangsar. The outlet in Bangsar has been around since the 1970's and Mahbub is very famous for their Briyani Ayam Madu and Briyani Buhara. They also have a good array of dishes for lunch but this entry is focused on their Sup Kambing (Mutton Soup) which in my opinion is the best that they have to offer. Being located in a corner unit, they have the advantage of space and by evening, you would be able to see tables also arranged along the sides of the inner road. Typical of any other Indian Muslim restaurant, the service here is quite efficient and they would usually attend to you quite fast. The only setback here is that the cleanliness is just average.

Mutton Soup @ RM 6.50

A Closer Look At Their Meat Cuts
I was in a soupy mood today and wanted to have their Mutton Soup. I have tried their Mutton Soup here before and it was a class of it's own. I decided to try it again today after two years to see if the taste was consistent. Once again, the soup was mind blowing and I must confess that it was the best Mutton Soup that I have had. It was made in a spicy, peppery and rich soup that was filled  with spices and it was cooked with chunks of mutton along with the marrow that definitely added to the taste. Definitely a must try for Mutton Soup lovers! I would rate their soup at 10/10 .

If you are one who loves a good bowl of Indian Muslim style Mutton Soup, then this is a must try place. It may seem slightly pricey but it is truly worth it. Definitely a place that I would recommend!

Nasi Lemak Idaman @ Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

I have heard so much about this stall that sells Nasi Lemak in the mornings in Damansara Damai but always miss heading there as time does not permit me in doing so. Today, as I was on leave, decided to finally try the place out. This stall is located just near the entrance into Idaman Apartments which is located along Jalan PJU 10/1. Getting here is quite simple. Once you turn into Damansara Damai, just keep going straight. You would pass a traffic light and shortly see a Petronas station on your left. Keep going straight and you would see Park Avenue Condominium on your left. Shortly ahead, you would come to another set of traffic lights. Within 50 meters from here, you would be able to sight this stall which once again, would be on your left.

A Wet Morning
The Nasi Lemak here is pretty good. The stalls starts business around 5.45 am and usually by 6.45 am, the Nasi Lemak would be sold out. Of course then. you would still be able to buy the other food items that they have to offer. Parking can be a problem so it is best to park near the Park Avenue Condominium and walk up to the stall.

Breakfast Items
The spread available here in simply impressive. They have many kinds of Noodles, a variety of Fried Rice, Nasi Lemak and other curries to go along with them.

Local Cakes Are Available Too

Local Cakes Are Available Too
Besides the heavy food items, local delicacies are available too. I came here around 6 am and was fortunate as most of the items were very much available. Thanks to the rainy morning. I bought a number of food items to be consumed back at home. Here it is simply take away as they do not have a place for one to sit and eat. The prices too are very reasonable.

Nasi Lemak with Fried Egg @ RM 2.50

Steamed Coconut Milk Rice which was extremely fragrant

Fried Egg

Spicy Yet Delicious Sambal
The Nasi Lemak was priced at RM 2.50 and it came with a huge portion of coconut milk rice, half of a boiled egg, one fried egg and some spicy sambal on the sides. Of course, the usual peanuts and cucumber were added too. For the price, the portion was quite huge. The rice itself was aromatic, so delicious and good to be eaten on it's own. The Anchovies Sambal too was awesome! No wonder this Nasi Lemak gets sold out so fast. I regretted buying just one packet. I would rate this Nasi Lemak at 9.7/10 . Highly recommended!

Potato Curry Puff @ RM 0.50 each

Potato Curry Puff @ RM 0.50 each
They had two types of Curry Puffs available here, Potato Curry Puffs and Sardine Curry Puffs. I decided to go for their Potato Curry Puffs and they were very reasonably priced at RM 0.50 each. In most places, the market price for this is around RM 0.80 to RM 1.00 and I was shocked to learn that it was only priced at half the market price here. Definitely a pleasant surprise. The Curry Puffs too were soft on the outside and the filling was good with some mildly spiced Potato Curry. I loved these cute delights and would rate them at 8.3/10 .

Fried Mee Hoon with Chicken Curry @ RM 2.50

Fried Mee Hoon with Chicken Curry @ RM 2.50

Fried Mee Hoon with Chicken Curry @ RM 2.50
As for the Fried Mee Hoon, they had two types too. One was the darker coloured one and this was the whitish looking Fried Mee Hoon. This is best when eaten with Chicken Curry. The yellowish colour that you see above was from the Chicken Curry and you also have a choice to choose if you want to add a piece of chicken or simply have it with the gravy. I choose to have one piece of chicken added to this and with that, it was a mere RM 2.50 which is really cheap. Taste wise, the chicken curry very much dominated the taste and it was simply delicious. I did enjoy this too and would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Overall, it was a sumptuous breakfast and I was glad that I was on leave today as definitely I would not be in the mood to work with a full stomach like this. As of now, the only thing in my mind is to have a good nice nap in this cool rainy morning weather. If you happen to be somewhere nearby, then I would highly recommend you to try this place out. Worth dropping by if you love a plate of good Nasi Lemak.

Restoran Mahbub @ Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

Having been here last week, I have kinda became addicted to their food and returned again tonight to try out their Rice and Curries. For those who are not familiar, Restorant Mahbub has got two outlets. One in Bangsar and the other in Damansara Damai and this is about the outlet in Damansara Damai.

Restoran Mahbub in Damansara Damai

Interior of the Restaurant

Curries Station

Freshly Fried Chicken

Nasi Lemak Station
This is one of those restaurants that operate 24 hours a day and cooking here is done twice daily thus ensuring that the customers get freshly cooked food at all times. This is the only restaurant in Damansara Damai that is crowded around the clock. Besides the usual Indian Muslim dishes, you also get good Nasi Kandar style food here. Their Nasi Beriyani Ayam Madu is one of their top dishes. They also have a wide array of sides to go with their Nasi Lemak. Their Sup Kambing here too is to die for. Though prices here are slightly on the high side, the food is good and the prices have not been prohibitive of their good business which seems to be only growing day by day.

Ice'd Water @ RM 0.30

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.40
Ice'd Water here is chargeable at RM 0.30 which is an acceptable price and their Tea is priced at RM 1.40 . Their Teh Tarik has always been consistently good and I would rate it at 9/10 .

My Meal @ RM 4.00
Having gotten my drinks, I went over to the Curries Station to pick out my meal. I choose a mix of curries along with some Long Beans Perattal, Cabbage Perattal and Egg Sambal. My meal was priced at RM 4.00 which is a decent price.

Mixed Curries
As with any Nasi Kandar meal, it is best to go with a mix of curries. My favourite here has always been their Fish and Chicken Gravy along with some Chicken Kurma. The curries were awesome and I would rate them at 9/10 .

Long Beans Perattal
The Long Beans Perattal was very good and tasty. They must have added some ghee into this dish. The beans too were crunchy and not overcooked. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

Cabbage Perattal
Their Cabbage Perattal again was good but not as good as the earlier Long Beans Perattal. I would rate their Cabbage Perattal at 8.5/10 .

Egg Sambal
Their Egg Sambal was very nice. It was sweet and spicy and the Sambal gravy was thick and delicious. I would rate their Egg Sambal at 9.3/10 . Definitely a good preparation.

Roti Canai Special @ RM 3.50

Roti Canai Special @ RM 3.50

Sambar

Spicy Sambal

2 Half Boil Eggs
This Roti Canai Special is a unique dish here. The only other place that I know of which sells this same dish is in Selangor Mansion in Masjid India. This dish comprises of 1 Roti Canai, 2 Half Boil Eggs, Sambar (Banjir) and some spicy Sardine Sambal.

All Mixed Up

All Mixed Up
This dish is best eaten when it is hot. If you love Sambal, then you can request for more of it to be added and then, all that you have to do is to thoroughly mix them up and it would look like the above photograph. This is an absolutely delicious dish. May seem odd if it's your first time trying this but it's a healthy and delicious dish. Do give this a try and you'd surely love it. You could also add a dash of pepper if you want. I prefer to have it just the way it is. Lovely stuff and I would rate this at 9/10 and it is worth the price paid. It gives you the same fullness of having two or three Roti Canai's. Must be the effect of the eggs.

This place has so far never let me down when it comes to the taste and I have been a loyal customer for more than 10 years now. For me, it is definitely my favourite neighbourhood restaurant.

Restoran Mahbub @ Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya

Restaurant Mahbub is the Indian Muslim restaurant that dominates the night food scene in Damansara Damai. Having been one of the pioneers in this area, this would be the only restaurant that is packed throughout the day and night. I have previously blogged about this restaurant and that was about their Tandoori Chicken and Mutton Soup which is one of the best in town. This time, I am here to have a quick dinner.

Restoran Mahbub in Damansara Damai

Entrance

The Place Is Always Packed With Customers

More Seating Spaces
Here the food is prepared twice daily, once in the morning for lunch and again around 6 pm catering for dinner and late night diners. This restaurant operates 24 hours a day. The prices here are a slight premium but the food is quite good. For dishes like noodles etc, ordering is done at your table but for the rice and curries, one has to pick it up yourself from the curries counter.

Teh O Ice @ RM 1.40
Their Teh O Ice was nice. Slightly pricey at RM 1.40 but that seems to be an acceptable price here by customers. I would rate their Teh O Ice at 8.7/10 .

My Meal @ RM 8.00
My meal comprised of a large portion of White Rice, mixed gravies (Nasi Kandar Style), a huge chunk of Mutton with bone and some Okra Masala. This was priced at RM 8.00 which again may seem expensive for some but once again, business is so good here.

Mixed Curries
The food here is akin to the Nasi Kandar style and I went for the mixed curries. The Fish Curry here is really awesome and I would highly recommend that. The other good one would be their Chicken Curry. The Mutton Gravy was just so so. Overall, their curries are good and I would rate their Fish Curry at 9.7/10, Chicken Curry at 8/10 and Mutton Curry at 7/10 .

Mutton Masala
Here you do not get the Tamil style Mutton dishes but you get the Nasi Kandar style Masala Mutton Chunks. The Mutton here was very good and it is served with a huge bone. The chunk itself was as big as my palm. Delicious stuff and would definitely recommend this! I would rate this at 8.9/10 .

Okra Masala
The Okra Masala again was very good. I like the way that it was prepared and not overcooked. The Okra was sweet and juicy and still crunchy, just the way it should be. I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Despite the price being on the high side, the meal was good and I did not feel like I was overpaying. To me it felt that the price commensurate the taste.
