Restoran Kong Mah @ Sungai Buloh, Selangor

If one is to ask me where is my favourite place in the Klang Valley for Dim Sum, then Restoran Kong Mah would be my answer. I have been dining here for more than a decade and not even once, did I return unsatisfied.

Restoran Kong Mah in Sungai Buloh New Village

Steamed Dim Sum

Continuous Flow Of Customers
This restaurant is tucked in the quiet township of Sungai Buloh New Village. Despite it being is such a remote location, they are so famous and draw customers from all over the Klang Valley. Business is very good so much so, at any time of the day, the restaurant is crowded. The good thing here is the variety that they offer and you get a very good variety of both Steamed Dim Sum as well as Fried ones. Prices may be on the high side but do bear in mind that it's all handmade by them and that being said, the quality and taste is just way better than the rest.

Herbal Tea
One of my favourite drinks here would be their Herbal Tea. It is so pure and concentrated that you would end up ordering more than one. Pricey but certainly good. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Their Steamed Dim Sum variety is simply excellent and the above are just a handful of items that you would get here. Another beauty of the above variety is that each one has it's unique taste and you do not get a close similarity in terms of taste. Since there were only the two of us, there is a limit as to the number of items that we could go for. Each and every one was fresh and tasty. My rating for the above shall be 9/10.

The above are just a handful of the Fried items that you could get here. Even by then, we were already quite full but for tasting sake, we wanted to try them. Fresh would be the key word and taste wise, truly heavenly stuffs. Once again, 9/10 would be my rating for these.

Another two of my favourites here would be their Pigs in Blanket and the Lotus Leaf Rice. Both are extremely good. If I were to rate them taste wise, I shall give the previous 9/10 and the latter 10/10. Highly recommended.

The Bill
If you're looking for an excellent place to have Dim Sum in the Klang Valley, my recommendation would be Restoran Kong Mah that is located in Sungai Buloh New Village. Prices are slightly on the high side, nevertheless, the food is amazingly good and fresh. Excellent variety of Steamed and Fried Dim Sum and their service levels are good.

Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh @ Sungai Buloh, Selangor

Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh is one of those hidden gems  that is located inside the Sungai Buloh New Village. Having been in business at this premise since 1993, this place has grown in terms of popularity and today is one of the most sought after Chicken Rice places in the Klang Valley.

The Restaurant Along Jalan Public

Only Steamed Chicken Is Available

Many Write Ups On This Restaurant

Prices
For those who are not too sure as to where Jalan Public is, this restaurant is located along the same row as the famous Kong Mah Dim Sum. Business starts at 11 am and goes on till 8.30 pm daily or until they run out of Steamed Chicken. This outlet specialises in Steamed Chicken and as such, you do not get the other variety of roasted meats. Business is so good so much so, we had to wait for almost 20 minutes before getting a place to sit. During that waiting period, I had observed that they had sold close to 15 birds which includes dine-in's as well as take-away's. That's how good business is for them and this was post the usual lunch hour. Imagine what it would be like during those busy hours.

Herbal Tea

Chilli Paste
You don't really have to wait till you get a table to be seated before ordering. You could walk up to the counter and place your orders to put them in a queue. That way, the moment you are seated, you get your food much faster and that is what I always do when I am here. They are so efficient and I have never seen them messing up the orders. One of the drinks that I would recommend here would be their Herbal Tea. This is one excellent drink that is so concentrated and way too good to be missed. Very authentic taste and my rating for this shall be 9/10. Another one that I really love here is their home made Chilli Paste. This is one really good chilli paste that you have got to taste. Excellent with the steamed chicken. It's mildly spicy but the overall flavours are so perfect. 10/10 is what I shall rating this.

Butter Garlic Rice

Bean Sprouts

Clear Soup
The rice that they serve here is the Butter Ginger Rice. It's so tasty that you could even eat it on it's own. I have tasted this at a variety of Chicken Rice joints but none are even close to what is served here. A class of it's own and my rating for this shall be 10/10. Their Bean Sprouts are the big type and they are freshly brought in from Ipoh on a daily basis. That being the case, it's another one that has a very high demand at this restaurant. The Bean Sprouts are so fresh and crisp, so much so it's a treat to eat it just like that. Again, 10/10 for this dish. With each order, you also get a bowl of clear soup. This is made by boiling all the waste parts of the chicken and they do not add MSG. Lovely flavours that is not to be forgotten. 9/10 would be my rating for this.

Fish Balls Stuffed With Squid

Steamed Chicken
Another highlight at this restaurant would be their Fish Balls which is stuffed with Squid. One that is rare to find and it does tasted uniquely good. For those who consume pork, you could also go for their Pork Balls. As for the Fish Balls stuffed with squid, my rating for this shall be 9/10. Finally coming to their Steamed Chicken. The meat is so tender and juicy and it's almost like melts in your mouth. Perfection is what you would get here and it's really so good. I would rate their Steamed Chicken at 10/10.

Having been a place that has been in business for more that three decades, Kedai Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh has got it's own charm and following. The food here is so good that you would have to wait in line for a table. During my brief visit to this restaurant, they had easily sold more than 40 birds and that's how good  business is here. If you're looking for a fantastic place for Steamed Chicken Rice, I would highly recommend this place. Located in the rustic Sungai Buloh New Village, it's totally worth the drive and would be a dining experience to remember.

Curry Puff Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

I have blogged about quite a number of stalls from this restaurant and another one that I felt worthy highlighting is the Curry Puffs Stall that's located in this restaurant. I believe this stall is owned by the landlords themselves and is manned by some foreign staffs.

Assorted Cakes & Pastries

Prices
They have a range of cakes and pastries which even extends to some Nyonya Cakes. All pastries are freshly baked daily and is available from 10 am onwards till they are sold out. Mostly, by around 2 pm, they'd be mostly done. For the size, the prices seemed very reasonable to me.

Curry Puffs @ RM 2.20 each

Kaya Puffs @ RM 2.00 each
Both of the above are my favourites at this restaurant. Their Curry Puffs are pretty huge, almost fills up an adult male's palm and is filled with curried potatoes and chicken. Comes with a rough crunchy skin that's so tasty on it's own. Their Kaya Puffs however has a soft, silky outer skin and the filling was heavenly. For both the cakes, I would rate them 9/10.

Siew Pau @ RM 2.00 each

Egg Tarts @ RM 1.80 each
Their Siew Pau had a very hard outer crust which was not to my liking. I somehow prefer the Seremban one which in my opinion, is much better than this one. The Egg Tarts were good but there's surely room to improve. These, I would rate them at 8/10.

Nyonya Cakes
Besides the above, they also have some Nyonya Cakes and buns. I did not try these as I don't really fancy them. Nevertheless, they looked pretty good.

Based on the pastries that I have tried, I would recommend going for their Curry Puffs and Kaya Puffs. Those were definitely good!

Prawn Mee Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

Back to Big Family Restaurant after some weeks now. One amazing thing about this place is the choices that you have. So many stalls under one roof and even if I went on a spree to try all the stalls, I guess it would take me more than a month. For those who have missed my previous entries on this food court, this is located in Sungai Buloh Industrial Park which is right at the border of Kota Damansara and Sungai Buloh. If you're familiar with the area where Restoran Khalifah is, then it's easy as this place is located along that very same row.

Stall Selling Prawn Mee and Curry Mee

Dishes And Prices Displayed
This stall is located on the far right of the food court. There's only two dishes here, Prawn Mee and Curry Mee and both are priced at RM 6.50 per bowl. It's best to come here just before lunch or after lunch as the crowd get's really huge during those hours. It's not only difficult to get a place to sit but also the fact that you would need to queue up to place your orders.

Prawn Mee @ RM 6.50
In a matter of minutes, the dish was sent over to the table. A huge bowl filled with your choice of noodles, hard boiled eggs, fish cake, shrimps and spinach served in a delicious broth.

Truly A Good Bowl Of Prawn Mee
This is another dish that solely relies on the broth for it's taste and that being the case, I must agree that these guy's have done a good job. The broth was just perfect, not too oily and had a very balanced flavour. I would rate this bowl of noodles at 8/10.

Overall, a very satisfying bowl of Prawn Mee. If you happen to be in this area, I would strongly  recommend to give these guys a try. Besides this, there's easily another 30 or 40 stalls to try as well. So, it's definitely worth the visit.

Chee Cheong Fun Stall in Restoran Big Family @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

The last few weeks, I have been visiting this restaurant at least once a week and here I am again. I have tried the food from a few stalls but how can one not have any more choices here. There are easily 25 to 30 stalls in total. As for today, let me try the Chee Cheong Fun stall.

The Chee Cheong Fun Stall in Restaurant Big Family

Assorted Fish Balls, Fish Paste and Tofu
The Chee Cheong Fun stall is located on the far right side of the shop. Besides the usual sauce based Chee Cheong Fun, he also sells Curry Chee Cheong Fun as well. Business is definitely good as there were a number of customers who were waiting in line to select the Yong Tau Fu items and I was impressed with the variety that he had. That speaks volumes on the daily sales. After having selected what I wanted, I handed those to his assistant and was back to my table.

Sweet & Chili Sauce Chee Cheong Fun
In a matter of minutes, the dish was sent over to the table and it definitely looked good. As far as the Chee Cheong Fun is concerned, he has the rolled one as well as the flat one and so, you could choose whichever you prefer.

Generous With The Sauces
He was definitely generous with the sauces and had been careful in placing the chili sauce on to the side. This is good as each person would have a varying level as to how much chili is needed and this way, they can scoop as much as they need to enjoy their meal.

Even the tofu and fish balls tasted great. In summary, this is definitely a good plate of Chee Cheong Fun. No wonder business is good for him. I would give this preparation a 8/10. Definitely a stall that I would recommend!

Ah Dee's Sarawak Kolo Mee @ Kota Damansara, Selangor

At the moment, I am working on a project with a client based in Kota Damansara and as such, you'd be seeing quite a number of entries in the coming weeks from this locality. And this very same client is the one who had recommended me to try Ah Dee's Sarawak Kolo Mee. Apparently, it is quite good and tastes quite similar to the one's that you get in Sarawak. Based on his recommendation, here I am this afternoon for lunch.

Ah Dee's Sarawak Kolo Mee Stall

Restoran Big Family in Kota Damansara
This outlet is located in Restoran Big Family which is in Taman Industri Sungai Buloh. A place that is very close to the old Sungai Buloh Road which is also known as Selangor Green Lane. Parking is a huge problem here. So if you're here for lunch, do be prepared to walk quite a distance.

It seems like every single stall in this restaurant is doing very well and the place is buzzing with customers. Ah Dee's stall was no exception. Even to place the orders, I had to wait for a couple of minutes just for my turn to register my orders. He only has one noodle variety which is the Sarawak Kolo Mee. The variety is basically the type of add on ingredients that one would like to have and that decides the price of the dish. Nothing complicated as he has pictures with description pasted on the stall and that makes the ordering process much simpler.

Sarawak Kolo Mee with Minced Pork & Char Siew @ RM 6.00
Having placed my orders, I did have to wait close to twelve minutes for my food to arrive. For a simple stall concept, that is quite a wait but I do not blame him. The crowd was such. When the dish arrived, I immediately realised that my client has definitely not tasted Kolo Mee in Sarawak as this seemed like it but not quite like it.

Noodles Was Good
The portion was decent but not sufficient to satisfy someone with a big appetite like me. The noodles were tasty. It was moist and nice but at the same time I felt that it was too moist as an overall dish and that may have brought down the taste. His Char Siew again wasn't great. It was just another Char Siew.

Minced Pork
Minced Pork is the main ingredient for this dish and I felt that it was too moist. It should be a little dry and mildly crunchy. As an overall dish, I would give this a 6/10. Nah, I would not be recommending this to anyone unless you're really in the mood for this dish and happened to be in the vicinity. I have tasted much better ones in Damansara Perdana which is a mere 15 minutes drive from here.

Clear Soup
This dish was also served with a small bowl of clear soup. Again, nothing much to shout about. Just another clear soup it was and I'd probably give it a 6/10 as well.

I will definitely come back to this restaurant as there is so much food to be explored but I doubt if I would come back for this Sarawak Kolo Mee. It surely wasn't one that I had enjoyed.
