Penang Char Kuey Teow Stall in Medan Selera Jalan 51A/223 @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I was back to Wisma Tecna this afternoon for some work and since I was here a little early, I decided to check out the food court that is along this road. Do note that this is not the large food court that is on the other end of this road. This food court that I am referring to is where the old KFC Holdings headquarters used to be, behind Axis Reit building. 

The Stall on the Halal Side Of The Foodcourt

This foodcourt is separated into two sections, the Halal side and non Halal side. I have blogged about some of the eateries on the non Halal side before which covers both the South Indian stalls as well as another Chinese stall. This afternoon, I wanted to explore the other side to see what options were there and this stall caught my attention. A simple stall in a food court and they specialised in Char Kuey Teow. The had both wet and dry versions and we had ordered one each so that we could try both versions in one sitting. 

Wet Char Kuey Teow @ RM 4.00

The Wet Char Kuey Teow was really good and it came with generous amount of eggy broth. The flat noodles were nicely done and the flavours blended really well. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10. 

Dry Char Kuey Teow @ RM 4.00

Their Dry Char Kuey Teow was equally good. This was a little on the spicy side and it came with lots of chicken bits. The texture and flavours that I had anticipated were definitely present. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10 as well. 

Both the Wet and Dry Char Kuey Teow were up to my expectations and I loved the preparation. If you're on this side of Petaling Jaya, I would definitely recommend visiting this stall.

Nasi Dulang Daun Pisang @ Kajang, Selangor

Nasi Dulang Daun Pisang is a restaurant that has gone viral recently. Despite it being so close to where I live, I would have not known about this place had it not gone viral on social media. This restaurant is called Restoran Al-Mubarakah but it's known to many as Nasi Dulang Daun Pisang.

The moment you turn in to Jalan Sungai Ramal, drive in for about a hundred meters and you should see this restaurant on your left. It's a pretty huge structure that could accommodate at least 200 people at any point in time. 

Their menu is limited to either a variety of Nasi Ganja or Nasi Dulang Daun Pisang. My recommendation would be to come early at around 11 am. We were here at 11.30 this morning and had to stand in line for 30 minutes to place our orders. While I stood in line to place the orders, my friends had to wait a while even before being able to sit and that too takes about 30 minutes. Once you choose the items, you pay for them at the cashier and then a number would be allocated to you. Now, you have another one hour wait time, at least, before your food is sent over. Even then, you must carefully listen to the numbers being called and then wave to the waiter and they would bring the dishes over to the table. It can be quite noisy, so you would have to listen attentively. In total, on average, you would have to wait one hour and thirty minutes. 

Pandan Cincau @ RM 3.50 & Teh O Ais @ RM 1.80

After about 30 minutes wait, the drinks were sent over. Their Teh O Ais was good and I would rate that at 8/10. However, their Pandan Cincau was excellent and that deserves a rating of 10/10. 

Set Dulang Talapia @ RM 10.00

After having waited for an hour and 30 minutes, finally the dishes started coming. The set dulling is quite standard as it comes with Ulam, Rice, Gulai Lemak, and three different spicy sambals. The one that differs would be the meat portion. Firstly, their Set Dulang Ikan Taplapia was awesome. The fish was so good and crispy and the marination was just lovely. Similarly, the fried prawns were also so good. No wonder this place is doing so well. For the fish and prawns, my rating shall be 10/10. Similarly, their Sambal was awesome and that too deserves a rating of 9/10. 

Set DUlang Kambing @ RM 15.00

Udang Lemak Cili Api @ RM 12.00

Their Lamb was barbecued to perfection. Seriously, it was really good and the meat was so tender and juicy. 10/10 would be my rating for that. We also ordered a side dish of Udang Lemak Cili Api and this too was excellent. Another one that I would rate 10/10. 

Nasi Dulang Daun Pisang is a restaurant in Sungai Ramal, Kajang that serves some very unique and delicious food. We tried their Set Dulang Tilapia, Prawns and Lamb and we also added another side dish of Udang Lemak Cili Api. Everything, right from the sambal to the mains were simply awesome. But, do come early as you would have to queue at least for 30 minutes to place your orders and again wait for at least an hour for the food to be served. That is the kind of crowd that they have here and if you come around lunch time, you would have to wait a very long time for a table as well. Best to be here by 11 am. Excellent food that is not to be missed.

Sate Kampung Baung @ Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor

Restoran Sate Kampung Baung is actually located quite close to Kajang, Selangor but since they sit at the border, their address comes under Bangi. Nevertheless, if you plan to come here, it's to exit at Kajang.

Despite Kajang being a town that is quite famous for Sate, the recipe here differs to the rest. Their original outlet is in Kelantan and they replicate the very same recipe here. Besides Sate, they are also famous for their Char Kuey Teow but I have not tried that yet. Ordering is quite straightforward, they have order chits on each table. Just fill in the numbers and pass it to any one of the waiters, and your order will be delivered shortly. We were here for an early dinner and even then, the number of customers looked good.

Peanut Dip

It didn't take them very long to send the orders over. We ordered a glass of Fresh Orange and another glass of Teh O Ais. Both drinks were decent and my rating for both shall be 8/10. Their Peanut Dip was on the oily side and the peanuts itself were coarse. Taste wise, it wasn't sweet and it was more on the spicy side. Very different to the rest of the Peanut Sauce that we get in Kajang. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Both the Chicken and Mutton Sate were very different to the Kajang style of preparation. Since this recipe is from Kelantan, it is good to see that they have not localised it and still prepare it the way it is done back home. Both the sate's were quite dry, there were a lot more spices used and generally it was on the spicy side. Even their Nasi Impit comes in banana leaves and has a slightly different texture to it. If you're looking for a Sate that's different to the ones that we get in this side of Peninsular Malaysia, I would recommend giving this one a try. Pricey, unique but tasty.

D' Family Satay Kajang @ Kajang, Selangor

D' Family Satay Kajang isa new Satay stall that has opened up in Taman Kajang Sentral. They are actually located just outside Restoran Al Sarifa, an Indian Muslim Restaurant that is open 24 hours daily.

It is just a small cart outside Restoran Al Sarifa and they seem to have a good bunch of customers, both from Al Sarifa as well as customers that come and just do takeaways. This stall starts at around 6 pm daily and goes on till midnight. They have the usual offering of Chicken, Mutton and Beef Satay. The owners are quite friendly and that too has helped boost their business.

We wanted to try what their Satay was like and we ordered a few sticks of Chicken and Mutton each. Being in Kajang, they had a high standard to adhere to since Kajang is a town that is famous for Satay. 

Their Satay was overmuch different in terms of taste and it seems that they had added more spices to it. Their Chicken Satay was good but the Mutton Satay was way too stiff. If I were to rate them, I'll give their Chicken Satay 8/10 and their Mutton Satay 6/10. Nevertheless, the portions were good and they were lean. But to be honest, they would have a lot of catching up to do in terms of improving their overall quality to be on par with the big names in Kajang. 

Peanut Dip Sauce

Nasi Impit, Cucumber & Onions

Their Peanut Dip Sauce was a tad too watery as well and it certainly needs improvement. My rating for this shall be 5/10. Their Nasi Impit was good and I am glad that their sliced cucumber and onions were fresh. 

D' Family Satay is a new satay stall that had recently opened up in Taman Kajang Sentral. Their Satay's were decent and I had preferred their Chicken Satay more than the Mutton Satay since the latter was a tad too stiff. Their Peanut Sauce needed some improvement as well as it was slightly on the watery side. Nevertheless, a decent neighbourhood Satay place to visit in Kajang. Reasonable prices as well.

Nasi Lemak Opah Nab @ Behrang Ulu, Perak

Behrang Ulu is a small little town that is located north of Tanjung Malim. Most people may have drove pass this town without realising that there is actually a township there. Not to say a very huge one, but it's more like a small settlement not too far away from Behrang Stesyen. Those that have previously been to Diamond Creeks or even Sungai Bil, you would have surely passed this place.

They are located along the Old Slim Road and this restaurant draws visitors from even far away. The Nasi Lemak here is the top seller and they only do breakfast. Business starts as early as 6 am and mostly by around 10.30 am, they are sold out. Do expect to see a long queue despite being a very small set up. Besides Nasi Lemak, they do have other things like Fried Rice, Fried Mee Hoon, Fried Mee and Fried Kuey Teow. But again, most people would only go for those unless the Nasi Lemak is sold out for the day. 

Iced Local Coffee

We were here at around 7.30 am. It was a rainy morning and even then, the queue was so long. I easily had at least ten people ahead of me and more and more people started coming later on. So, one of us had to sit down and that too share a table because the crowd was really huge and I decided to stand in line. In fact, for those who came at around 8 am, they had to not only stand in line for the Nasi Lemak, but then again wait for a table. So don't expect to sit down and chit chat as it is only fair that you get up once you're done so that the other people would get some seating space. The drinks were fast and in a couple of minutes, our drinks were served. I ordered a glass of Iced Coffee and it was truly good.

Nasi Lemak Opah Nab is so famous that you have to stand in a queue to get your orders and that wait is truly worth it. The rice itself was so tasty and their spicy anchovy sambal was just heavenly. In that short span of time that I was there, tubs after tubs of rice were being sold and that's how famous this Nasi Lemak place is. If you're passing Behrang Ulu anytime in the morning, this is definitely a place that is worth stopping for some excellent Nasi Lemak. Good food and very reasonable prices.

Patong Seafood @ Kajang, Selangor

Patong Seafood is a famous neighbourhood Kelantanese restaurant in Kajang and they are located in Taman Bukit Mewah. Unlike other Kelantanese restaurants that focus on a handful of dishes, these guys have a better range of variety that they offer and it even includes items like Western food and Grilled Fish.

If you're driving into Taman Bukit Mewah, it is very difficult to miss the restaurant as they are brightly lit up and the lights are colourful. Moreover, the place is mostly full even around midnight. Another good thing about this restaurant would be the easily available parking bays. 

The variety here is good as it is not limited to the usual Kelantanese fare and they even have things like Western food and Ikan Bakar. Prices are very much the standard that you get around Kajang. Don't expect much of a personalised service here as the staffs are usually very busy managing the crowd.

As for the drinks, we ordered one glass of Iced Tea and another glass of Carrot Juice with Milk. Both were decent and most importantly, they were not too sweet. Just nice and my rating for these shall be 8/10. Their Squid Deep Fried in Flour was above average. Perhaps they should have made it a little more crispy. My rating for this shall be 6/10. 

White Rice @ RM 1.00

Telur Dadar @ RM 1.50

Kailan Ikan Masin @ RM 5.00

White Rice is charged at RM 1.00 per plate and that's quite reasonable since it's the standard almost everywhere. Their Telur Dadar (Omelette) was decent and not too oily. Their Salt Fish Kailan was nice but I would have appreciated if there were more greens then stems. Taste wise, it deserves a rating of 7/10. 

Ayam Masak Pedas @ RM 5.50

Tomyam Soup with Prawns

Their Spicy Stir Fried Chicken wasn't spicy at all and it tasted very much like Ayam Masak Merah. Nevertheless, the flavours were enjoyable and as such, my rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Tomyam Soup was also decent and it came with some reasonably large prawns. Taste wise, I would give it a 7/10. 

Patong Seafood is a neighbourhood Kelantanese restaurant that is quite famous in Kajang. I wouldn't say that their food is really great, but it's definitely of a decent quality and it is crowded all night long. Decent prices and you even get Western food here. Worth dropping by if you're in the neighbourhood.

Gerai Nasi Lemak Hijau @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

It has been a very long time that I had not checked out the TSI Sports Arena Food Court that is located along Jalan Usahawan 2, Cyberjaya. This food court is located across where SME Technopreneur Centre and it has a number of very famous food stalls.

This Nasi Lemak is available from Jang Asam Pedas Power Stall

One of the most famous food stalls here is the Bawal Power Sempoi stall which is open mainly for lunch and then a handful of stalls for dinner. I was here for breakfast and there were a handful of stalls that were in business and the one that I had visited is the Jang Asam Pedas Power stall. Their main dish Asam Pedas is only available during lunch hours and for breakfast, they are famous for their Nasi Lemak Hijau. In fact most people that are here for breakfast come here mainly for this dish.

This Nasi Lemak is available from 7.30 am till it is sold out. Mostly, by around 10.30 am, it is sold out. The basic set is priced at RM 3.00 and it comes with some Green Nasi Lemak, crispy Fried Peanuts, Fried Anchovies some spicy Sambal and an omelette. 

Fragrant Rice

Spicy & Mildly Sweet Sambal

The rice itself was so fragrant and richly made with coconut milk and their Sambal was mildly sweet and mostly spicy. If you like to have add on's, they do have items like Sambal Sotong, Ayam Masak Merah, Cockles and a lot more to choose from. My rating for this Nasi Lemak would be 8/10.

If you're looking for a good Nasi Lemak to have for breakfast in Cyberjaya, my recommendation would be to visit this stall that is located in TSI Sports Areana Food Court. Available from as early as 7.30 am and it sells out by around 10.30 am. Best to come early to enjoy a variety of add on's.
