Parkview Deck Cafe @ Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kuala Lumpur

This evening, I had to visit Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for an event. Of course, there are those canteen style cafe's inside the exhibition halls but food is nothing great there. Therefore, I decided to give this restaurant called Parkview Deck Cafe a try.

This place had a very posh set up and a lovely ambiance. Even the waiters were very professional in their approach and they were speedy to attend to customers needs. Their menu was quite simple, limited items but obviously premium prices. 

Iced Peach Tea @ 12.00

Nasi Lemak @ RM 17.16

After having gone through their menu, I ordered an Iced Peach Tea which was priced at RM 12.00 and a plate of Nasi Lemak which was priced at RM 17.16. Their Iced Peach Tea was good, not diluted and perfectly fixed. My rating for that shall be 8/10. Their Nasi Lemak set came with some fragrant coconut milk rice, some Sambal, Fried Anchovies and Peanuts, half a Hard Boiled Egg, some Prawn Sambal and a small piece of Chicken Rendang.

Their Coconut Milk Rice was above average. Being a restaurant of class, I definitely expected better quality. Nevertheless, it was still acceptable levels and my rating for this shall be 6/10. Their Fried Anchovies were crispy and so were the peanuts. This, I shall rate at 8/10. 

Chicken Rendang & Sambal Udang

Their Chicken Rendang was just so so and it was the same with the Prawn Sambal. Both were just not there taste wise. My rating for both those items shall be 5/10. Their Sambal however was much better. Slightly sweet and mildly spicy and my rating for this shall be 7/10.

Overall, my dining experience here was good. The place was cosy and the ambiance was lovely. Their Iced Peach Tea that I had ordered was lovely too. The only setback was their Nasi Lemak which I felt had lots of room for improvement. On the other hand, I have to congratulate their waiters and waitresses for their hard work. They were so fast to attend to customers needs and they kept coming back just to see if all was good. Truly excellent customer service.

Ipoh Market Street @ Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur

Having heard that a new outlet had opened in Avenue K that mainly sells Ipoh food, I made it a point to visit them within the few weeks from the time that they had opened. Apparently this is a branch of a famous restaurant that hails from Market Street, Ipoh and they had been in business in Ipoh since 1980.

Very Crowded During Lunch

This restaurant is located on the Upper Concourse Level of Avenue K Mall. Being rather new, business was very good and the place was packed with customers. I had to wait a while before being allocated a table. 

Their Menu brought many of the famous dishes from Ipoh under one roof. Well, this is one of those premium malls and it's no surprise that their prices would be slightly on the high side. Nevertheless, it still seemed rather affordable to me and being in Ampang, this still would qualify as a day to day restaurant. Just like most cafe's, you'd have to write down your orders on a chit that is provided and then hand it over to the waiter who would then again confirm your orders before keying it into the system. 

Ipoh White Coffee @ RM 3.50

Their Ipoh White Coffee was not as good as the one that you would get in Ipoh. This seemed like those instant 3 in 1 coffee that comes in sachets. Nevertheless, still acceptable quality and I would rate this at 7/10. 

Ipoh Pulut Kaya @ RM 5.90

This was one of my favourites and must haves as a child. Whenever we were visiting Ipoh, it's mandatory to have this for breakfast. This preparation lived up to it's name. The Pulut was very good and the Kaya was heavenly! Highly recommended one to order here. I would definitely give this 9/10. 

Market Street Steamed Chicken @ RM 10.90

This Steamed Chicken dish was quite disappointing. In fact, my friend and I (both being Perakians) were jokingly saying that this chicken had not gone anywhere close to Ipoh and probably not even crossed the border town of Tanjung Malim. The meat was stiff and it wasn't fresh. Even the skin tasted weird. The accompanying Chili & Garlic Paste too was a let down. I would only give this 6/10. 

Market Street Dry Curry Mee @ RM 11.90

This version of Dry Curry Mee wasn't very similar to the one's that we get in Ipoh. However, I enjoyed the dish. The blend of thick curry and noodles was so good. The Chili Paste too was excellent. I have already mentioned about their Steamed Chicken and so it would not make sense to repeat it here. Their Siew Yuk was decent too. As an overall dish, I loved the flavours! Yes, another dish worth trying here. Rating wise, I'd give it 9/10. 

Market Street Chicken Hor Fun @ RM 10.90

The main thing that would decide if this dish makes it or fails is the soup and in this case, the soup failed miserably. Though I would agree that they were generous with the ingredients, the soup tasted so bland and flat. A major let down! I would give this a 4/10. 

From the dishes that I had tried today, I would say that it was selectively good. We had four dishes and out of that, two were excellent and two were quite bad and that's quite a contrast between them in terms of taste. I had also checked their Facebook page and the feedback was almost similar. So, I am not alone. I hope that they do read these feedback and do the needful.

Tokyo Pastry @ Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur

Tokyo Pastry is a Japanese bakery that specialises in Cheese Cakes and Cheese Tarts. They opened their first outlet in Malaysia a number of years back located in Dataran Sunway and another outlet recently in Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur.

They have taken up a prime space on the Mezzanine Floor and the entire outlet solely sells these two items only. I would not even say that they are premium priced but due to the demand that they are able to generate, they have been able to sustain all these years. 

Besides the bakery section, there is another section that is detached and they have branded that space as Tokyo Cafe. Here, they sell a number of fusion dishes and I have attached the entire menu above for your reading pleasure. This section is just a supplementing business and their core is still the bakery section. 

Cheese Cake @ RM 15.90

Their Cheese Cake comes in two flavours, plain Cheese Cake which is the one shown above and also Chocolate Cheese Cake, both are priced at RM 15.90 each. Size wise, it's probably slightly larger than a male adult's palm and I felt that for the quality ingredients used, the price was quite reasonable. The texture was simply awesome and the cake was just splendid. I would surely give this a 10/10. A must try for Cheese Cake lovers!

Cheese Tarts @ RM 6.00 each

Tasted so good!

Their Cheese Tarts were amazing as well. The outer crust was soft, creamy and delicious and when you bite in, you get such lovely cheese oozing out. Amazing! These guys are surely better than their rival which I would not want to mention the brand name. That's another similar tart that you can find in most malls these days. However, these guy's were a notch better taste wise. I would definitely give this Cheese Tart a 10/10. 

Don't Forget To Leave A Tip

When the receipt along with the change was sent over, I discovered this note beneath the receipt. Well, the service was par excellence. Seriously it was very Japanese in culture and having not charged any service charge, I don't see any reason why one should not tip them generously. 

To all cheese lovers out there, if you happen to be along Jalan Ampang or KLCC area, do give these guy's a try. I am certain that you'd find their cake and tarts to be good as well.

Malones Irish Restaurant & Bar @ KLCC, Kuala Lumpur

Planned to meet up with an old friend after work and while deciding on a place, he suggested for us to meet at Malones which is located in Surya KLCC. This place is more of an Irish Pub and Restaurant and it is located right along the courtyard facing the park. This restaurant is part of a larger group that owns five outlets in the Klang Valley and if I am not mistaken, they also own The Apartment chain of restaurants. Finding the place was never an issue as there are just a handful of restaurants that face the park area in Suria KLCC.

The restaurant is predominantly designed like a bar with indoor and outdoor seating areas. Since it wasn't too hot this afternoon, the outdoor seating area seemed good. We were here rather early and there were just a handful of customers then. As time went by, crowd started coming in and by 6 pm, the place was full house.

We weren't in the mood to eat. It was more of catching up over some drinks and of course, with that we were planning on having some bites. I was very impressed with the spread of drinks that they had available. Prices were very competitive and their food menu was very impressive as well. Another thing that I would like to mention is their waiters. They were very professional with their approach and were working with such great efficiency. Ordering was a breeze and within minutes, the drinks were served. Of course, subsequently we became hungry and ordered some bites to fill our tummy too.

Cock A Leek @ RM 19.70

Well, a very catchy name but it was nothing more than Chicken Sausages with Leek. A very simple dish but the way they had prepared it was impressive. May be a little too greasy for some but it went well with the drinks. The sausages too were not the common variety and had some class to it. A dish that we both loved and I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Bourbon Glazed Chicken & Prawn Burger @ RM 38.35

A Closer Look At The Burger

This I must say was a very grand dish. A huge burger that came with a large chicken burger patty along with some deep fried shrimps and dressed with salad, tomatoes and onions. On the sides, there were curly wedges. Very reasonable for the price tag. The burger was heavenly. The thick chicken chunk along with the crispy battered shrimps were a true delight. A savoury burger and I loved every bit of it. Truly one that is good to feed a very huge eater. I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Well, what can I say. The place was great, the food was good, the service levels were excellent and the prices were reasonable. Not to forget the absolutely cosy environment. Loved the place and would surely recommend this to all. A great place to unwind and chill after a long day.
