Antipodean Cafe @ Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Today, we were in the mood for some heavy Western brunch sets and my all time favourite place is Antipodean. I have been to their outlet in Bangsar so many times and have always returned a satisfied customer. Having heard that they have another outlet in Atria which does non Halal breakfast, we decided to head there instead. It's been a while since we last had some good breakfast sets with Bacon and Ham.

This outlet in Atria Shopping Centre is located on the Ground Floor, not too far from their main entrance. They occupy a huge space and I was not surprised to see the place full house at 3 pm. Just like I was told, this place does serve non Halal dishes and it is clearly stated on the board where their menu is displayed. 

Big Breakfast @ RM 26.00

Pork Sausages @ RM 12.00

Their Big Breakfast is total value for money. For RM 26.00, you get some bread, salad, potatoes, mushrooms, bacon and scrambled eggs and the portions are huge. Even for a heavy eater, it would take a while to finish this and it's something that would fill your tummy for a very long time. Taste wise, I must confess that it was very good and they were very generous with the ingredients and only quality ingredients were used. Even the Bacons were one that was of a higher grade. 9/10 would be my rating for this. We had also ordered some Pork Sausages and this was priced at RM 12.00 for two long sausages. Just as expected, the quality was amazingly good. Again, I would rate this at 9/10.

Lamb Burger @ RM 26.00

The Omelette with Cheese and Mushrooms was again a mind blowing dish. They had been very generous with the milk and cheese so much so, with each cut, you get cheese oozing out of the eggs. 10/10 would be my rating for this dish. Their Lamb Burger was good as well but it surely wasn't as great as the breakfast sets. The patty could have been a little more bigger. Otherwise, it was a good dish and my rating for this shall be 8/10.

There are many cafe's in the Klang Valley that boast about their Western breakfast sets. For me, after having tried most of those places, I would still vouch for Antipodean for the quality ingredients and reasonable prices.Their Big Breakfast with Bacon, Sausages as well as Omelette with Cheese & Mushrooms were really good. If you're looking for a good Western breakfast spot that serves Bacon and Ham as part of their dishes, I would recommend visiting their outlet in Atria, Damansara Jaya. Excellent food at very reasonable prices.

Indian Food Stall in Choy Kee Restaurant @ Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya

Choy Kee Restaurant is located in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya and they are usually open from breakfast to lunch. During the day, it's mainly Chinese hawker food. Recently, they had started operating at nights as well and this starts from 6 pm onwards till around midnight. In the evening, the only stall operating would be an Indian stall selling South Indian food.

There's a decent variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes and they seemed pretty okay to me. Prices are definitely reasonable. I had some rice, Chicken Curry, Chicken Perattal, Long Beans Perattal and a piece of Kicap Tofu and this lot was priced at RM 5.00 only.

Chicken Curry was decent. I had a decent amount of spices and wasn't the watery type. My rating for this shall be 7/10. The Kicap Tofu was a tad too salty. Would have been better if they had reduced the amount of salt. Otherwise, it was fresh. My rating for this shall be 6/10.

Teh O Ais @ RM 1.50

The Long Beans Perattal was also a tad too salty and a little overdone. My rating for this shall be 6/10. Their Chicken Perattal however was good. Lot's of masala used and the chunks were meaty. I would rate their Chicken Perattal at 8/10. Teh O Ais was good as well and my rating for this shall be 9/10. 

For a decent South Indian dinner in Damansara Jaya, you might want to check out this stall that is located in Choy Kee Restaurant. They are open daily from 6 pm till around midnight  and they have both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Prices are reasonable and I loved the warm reception.

Restoran Busy Corner @ Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya

This is a  restaurant that is very famous for the Claypot Chicken Rice. I last visited this place sometime in the year 2014  and was very impressed with the food. Having had a guest from India who had wanted to taste the culinary variety that we have in Malaysia, I decided to bring him here since this is something that he would never get in India.

It is quite easy to locate this restaurant. They are located along the same row as Petronas as they are open from 11 am till 2.30  pm for lunch and then again from 5.00 pm till 9.30 pm for dinner. It's just a simple restaurant but you would be impressed by the crowd that adjourns itself there on a daily basis. I usually prefer coming here for dinner since during the day, parking can be a challenge around this area.

Peanut & Chicken Feet Soup @ RM 6.00

One thing that I got to forewarn you is that not to expect much of a reception here. Service is speedy but no one smiles at any of the customers. Even when you pay, the interaction can seem a little tense. Don't worry as it is not about you. That is how they are and have been all these years. Cooking will take a while since it is prepared the traditional way using charcoal stoves. Despite the waiting time being slightly longer, rest assured the food is definitely good. They have a variety of soups to choose from and we went for their Peanut & Chicken Feet Soup. This is the steamed soup variety (not boiled) and is made with quality herbs and ingredients. Each is priced at a reasonable RM 6.00 and taste wise, I felt that it was pretty good. My rating for this shall be 9/10. 

Claypot Prawn Rice @ RM 17.00

Thoroughly Stirred Up 

Claypot Prawn Rice is one of the top sellers at this restaurant. Being a dish that is rare to find, they prepare this in a unique method so much so, even the base paste is different to the Chicken Rice. Be sure to thoroughly mixed it up before consuming. Otherwise, the paste would be unevenly distributed and you wouldn't be able to enjoy the dish. The shrimps used are quite large and they were fresh and juicy. The taste of the rice is so unique that you would not have tasted anything similar to this. A must try dish at this restaurant. May seem a little pricey but it's totally worth it. My rating for this shall be 10/10. 

Claypot Chicken Rice @ RM 8.00

Salt Fish Served Seperately

The other must try dish here would be their Claypot Chicken Rice which is priced at RM 8.00 . If you add Taiwanese Sausages, then they charge a Ringgit more for that. Salt Fish is served separately and customers could add to adequately to suit to their taste buds. Another excellent preparation that we enjoyed. My rating for this shall be 8/10. 

For some good Claypot Chicken Rice, my recommendation would be to visit Restoran Busy Corner that is located in Damansara Jaya. Besides this, their Claypot Prawn Rice is another top seller and it has some very unique flavours which is so tasty. Steamed Soup varieties are also highly sought after at this restaurant. All dishes are prepared using traditional methods and cooked on charcoal stoves. Slightly pricey but it is totally worth it. In fact, the crowd that you see all day long would assure you that this restaurant does offer some amazing food.

Good Taste Cafe @ Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya

Tropican City Mall is a place where there are a lot of good eateries. I have blogged about a number of them in the past. Today, we were here for a movie and wanted to get a quick dinner. This Good Taste Cafe is located quite close to GSC, on the 2nd Floor and they seemed to be churning out some quick dishes and so we decided to give this place a try.

This cafe occupies just a small place and at anytime, can perhaps accommodate not more than 20 people. This cafe is manned by a Mom and daughter team and they seem to be doing a good job in serving swiftly.

The Menu has a limited offerings but it is quite sufficient if you are looking just to have a quick dinner. The prices too are quite reasonable. The menu is placed at the counter and there is only one of it and all ordering is done here. Just choose your items, pay for them and then head back to your table. The items would then be sent over to you. I requested to the girl to assist in expediting the dishes and she did pretty much that. In less than 5 minutes, we were already served.

We just ordered one drink which we shared between us. The Coca Cola is priced at RM 3.00 which is an accepted slight premium for a mall.

They have two varieties of Chee Cheong Fun here, the plain one and the Teluk Intan one but unfortunately, the latter was already sold out and so my brother had to settle for the plain type. The portion was decent for the price. There were no other add on's like Fuchok or Tofu to this dish but there must at least be three long rolls and this was served with the sweet sauce. The taste was good and I would rate this at 8/10 .

The Soup came with Rice Noodles, vegetables, sliced Bitter Gourd, Tomato's, diced Mushrooms and Yee Huat. The preparation was nice and they were lavish with the add on's. The soup itself was quite good and that complimented the rest of the items nicely. Definitely a good bowl of Bitter Gourd Noodles. I would rate this dish at 8.5/10 . 

This place definitely served some good food and is suitable if you are looking for a quick no frills meal. I must compliment the girl too as she served us really quick as requested. Definitely a place that I would visit again.

Oiso Korean Traditional Cuisine & Cafe @ Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya

Oiso Korean Traditional Cuisine & Cafe is one of the recently opened chain of Korean restaurants which is mainly found in prominent shopping malls in the Klang Valley. Up to today, they have six outlets in the Klang Valley. Being a fan of Korean food, I wanted to try them out for dinner as I was in Tropicana City Mall this evening. Do note that they do not have the Halal status as they serve alcohol on their menu but it is a Pork Free restaurant.

This place must really be very popular. It was full house when I arrived this evening and I had to queue up before being allocated a table. Luckily since I was alone, I managed to get a small table within 20 minutes of arriving. The restaurant was reasonably large and from what I can see tonight, most of their customers were Chinese with a handful of Malays and I was the sole Indian here. As mentioned earlier, this is a Pork Free restaurant but they do not have the Halal certification. They also do have a small store near the entrance selling a limited number of Korean products.

The menu definitely had a good and broad selection of dishes and sets and I must agree that the pricing is very reasonable, if not cheap. Since I was alone, there was not much that I could have ordered and having known what I wanted, it was done quite speedily. I must commend that the staffs here are definitely very efficient and friendly. 

Korean No.1 Coffee @ RM 3.90

A drink like this in a similar restaurant would have easily cost me anywhere near RM 10 but here it was a mere RM 3.90 . The Korean Coffee, served with some ice, was excellent. Tasted something like the Hong Kong Coffee except that it was a little more creamy. Definitely good coffee and I would rate this at 9/10 .

The above set came with a huge pot of mushroom and tofu stew, three side dishes and a bowl of rice. For RM 15.90, it is definitely a good deal.

I do not know if this rice is imported, but it seems so as it tastes similar to the rice that is served in the high end Korean restaurants. Though it may seem like little, it is good to satisfy a heavy eater. I would rate the above at 9/10 .

Fried Sweet Anchovies with Chili

Though the portion seems small, it was good for one. The anchovies were well prepared and were up to the mark. I would rate the above at 8.5/10 .

Lotus Root with Fermented Bean Curd

This one was excellent. The Lotus Root was sweet with juices and the fermented bean curd was just up to the right amount giving it a very balanced flavour. I would rate this at 9.4/10 .

Kimchi Cabbage

Again another good dish. The Kimchi was of a good quality, though not excellent. I would rate it at 8/10 .

Served  piping hot with an additional candle burner at the base, this dish was heavenly. Served with loads of Tofu, Enoki Mushrooms & Vegetables in a hot and spicy soup, this dish was perfect. I enjoyed every drop of the soup and the ingredients. A wonderful  and highly recommended dish that deserves a rating of 9.7/10 .

The Kimchi Pancake is one of my favourite Korean dishes and I always make it a point to order this dish at every Korean restaurant that I visit. Here, this dish was one of the best preparations that I have ever tried. Comes in a large portion that is good for three or four people. There was also a lavish amount of Kimchi added to the pancake whereby you no longer need any sides to dip the pancake before consuming. Excellent preparation and I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

On the whole, I am very satisfied with the meal today. The food here is good, the service is friendly & efficient and the prices are very much wallet friendly. Definitely a Korean restaurant that I would frequent.
