Saudagaq Sup Junior @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

This is one of those extremely famous Malay restaurants in Tanjung Malim that's been receiving some great write ups in the local as well as national tabloids, and not to forget the social media. Their specialty dishes here are their Beef Tripe Soup and Chicken Rice, both of which are northern style dishes. This place has been in my 'To Do' list for over a year now and fortunately, I managed to visit them this evening. Many of those who have been following my food blogs for some time now would know that I do not consume beef and hence, my tasting shall be limited to their Chicken Rice only.

The Restaurant In Taman University

Simple Layout

Just Like Any Other Malay Restaurant
The restaurant is located in Taman University, along the road fronting stretch of shops. It was approximately 8.30 pm when I arrived and they were still quite busy. The flow of customers seemed to be never ending. Some dining in and many more doing takeaways. The place was a no frills restaurant serving just some great food at very reasonable prices.

Beef Tripe Soup Counter

Chicken Rice Counter
Two items are famous here. Firstly, it's their Beef Tripe Soup that's served on it's own with White Rice or one could also opt to have it with some noodles. The other would be their Norther Style Chicken Rice. This is also served with some soup but that's made purely from waste chicken's spare parts. So for those non beef eaters like me, the latter would be the only thing that you could try here. Ordering was simple. Just head to whichever counter and place your orders. Fortunately, there was one last bird left. I have observed that the Chicken Rice sells out fast. So, if you're coming here just for that, then I would recommend to come in fairly early. Best if it is for lunch instead of dinner.

Locally Produced Drinks
This seemed to be placed at all tables. Some locally produced aerated drinks. I am not quite a fan of aerated drinks and so decided to skip this. Not sure how much they cost though.

Iced Syrup Bandung @ RM 2.00

Iced Syrup Bandung @ RM 2.00

All Stirred Up
Service was just a breeze here. Everyone seemed to be on the tip of their toes running around and getting things done. Good to see some great team work. It was just a matter of minutes and my drink was served. This was priced at RM 2.00  for a tall glass. The drink was just excellent. They were lavish with the ingredients and had used crushed ice instead of those cubes making it really chilled and it was such a rejuvenating drink. I would rate this at 9.5/10 . Worth the price paid.

Chicken Rice Set @ RM 4.50
This is the basic Chicken Rice set and it is priced at RM 4.50 . This came with a plate of Buttered Rice, Roasted Chicken and some soup. For those who want extra rice, that option too is available at RM 5.00 . Some may prefer to double the portion of the Roasted Chicken and that is priced at RM 7.00 . Quite a decent deal in my view.

Buttered Rice

Buttered Rice
It's good to see the real Buttered Rice being served here with their Chicken Rice sets. Buttered Rice is the authentic rice preparation that should go with this dish instead of the common White Rice. This is a special preparation that is cooked with Butter, sliced Ginger and other spices giving it a very aromatic and rich texture which invariably boosts the taste. Loved it and I would rate this at 9.5/10 . Excellent preparation!

Roasted Chicken

Roasted Chicken
This was another fantastic preparation. Juicy Roasted Chicken were served in a heap of chili and sweet sauces with some salad and tomatoes on the sides. The chicken was tender and together with the sauces, it just transformed into a heavenly goodness. Am just in love with this dish and I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Clear Soup

Clear Soup
This small bowl of soup was also provided complimentary with the set. The soup was rich with spices and pepper and was an amazing close to the set. Loved every sip of it. I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Chicken Feet Soup @ RM 3.00
I noticed that they also had some Chicken Feet soup. This comes from the very same broth that is served with the Chicken Rice sets and hence, there are no bovine related ingredients. This I confirmed with the waiter as well as the owner. Coming back to the soup, for the price they had provided a large bowl and was lavish with chicken feet and neck. Not sure if many fancy this but it was just delicious. Another one that I would recommend here. I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. Had a wonderful meal all for under RM 10.00 . How many places are there out there where you could still get such a feast for under ten bucks. Definitely a place that I would highly recommend!
