Restoran Nasi Kandar Warna Warni @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Restoran Nasi Kandar Warna Warni is a relatively new restaurant that had commenced business sometime in January this year. This restaurant belongs to one of my classmates who is the grandson of the original Restaurant Ghani's owner (Mr. Ghani himself) which is one of the most famous Indian Muslim restaurants in town. This restaurant is located in Taman Intan Setia which lies along the old trunk road heading towards Ipoh. I have been to this restaurant to try their Rice and Curries (which I have blogged about) and that was when they had initially opened in January. My brother happened to be in town and he wanted to have some Mee Goreng. Since we were on this side of town, I suggested that perhaps we should give this guy's Mee Goreng a try.

Quite Spacious

Spacious Restaurant
The furniture and layout may seem a little odd for an Indian Muslim restaurant. This is because, initially this was a Malay Tomyam restaurant and when they closed down, this guy took over log, stock and barrel. Before the Tomyam restaurant, this was actually a night club. If you observe the above photograph carefully, you would  be able to see the strobe lights still mounted on the ceiling. That was from the old night club that had closed down. I guess, they inherited it and have just left it there. One problem in the area would be the parking. There are many new budget hotels which have opened up along this stretch and as a result, parking can be very difficult at times. It is a common sight to see people double park and some even do illegal parking along the road sides.Well, nobody bothers and moreover, as long as you're not hogging anyone else, it's just fine. Benefits of being in a small town. Being in a corner lot has given then the benefit of space too.

This is another new addition here. He has hired a Malay staff who can prepare the above dishes and these are available in the evenings till night. A good move to have these as there are many Tomyam fan's around and he is the first Indian Muslim restaurant to offer these in Tanjung Malim.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.30

Cutlery
The service is relatively efficient here. Most of the staffs have been with the 'family' managing the other restaurants for like decades and they are so familiar with the business. Though originating from India, they are all quite fluent with Bahasa Malaysia. My brother ordered a can of Coca Cola and this was priced at RM 2.00 . Decently priced I would say as there are some restaurants in town that charge RM 2.30 for the same. I ordered a glass of Teh Tarik and this was priced at RM 1.30 which is the norms. Their Tea was good and I would rate this at 9/10 .

Maggi Curry @ RM 3.00

Tofu Too

Some Veggies

Very Concentrated Curry

Noodles Are Sufficiently Cooked Too
I ordered a bowl of Maggi Curry and this was priced at RM 3.00 per bowl. The good thing here is that they had used a slightly smaller bowl but the contents were still the same one full packet. As a result, the 'Curry' was concentrated and just at the right level. Some places serve this in larger bowls and end up diluting the curry. That's one major plus point here and it resulted in a perfect 'Curry'. Other than that, they also added an egg, some Tofu and vegetables into the dish. In other restaurants in Tanjung Malim, they would only add eggs and vegetables and the Tofu is a bonus here. From what I have tried, I would surely say that this is the best Maggi Curry preparation in town. I would rate this at 9.3/10 .

Mee Goreng @ RM 3.80

Slightly On The Wet Style
Within minutes, my brother's Mee Goreng arrived. Honestly, it was not too good. Despite us informing them to prepare the dry style, it still ended up being slightly wet. Not the typical Indian Muslim Mee Goreng. The taste was mediocre and it just lacked that touch. This would not qualify for the Top 5 Mee Goreng's in town, in fact there is a lot to improve here. I would only rate this at 6.5/10 .

Overall, I am very happy with the curries from the last visit and their Maggi Curry was just excellent. Their Teh Tarik was good too but unfortunately, the Mee Goreng was just not up to the mark. Definitely I would be returning here but it would not be for the Mee Goreng.
