Vege Good @ Kajang, Selangor

There are a number of Chinese Vegetarian restaurants in Kajang and I have tried most of them. If you were to ask me, which Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant that I would recommend in Kajang, my choice would always be Vege Good that is located in Taman Bukit Mewah.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan Bukit Mewah 11

Halal Certified
This restaurant has been around for a very long time and perhaps they are the only one's in Kajang that have the Halal certification. If you're coming for lunch, parking may be a challenge but if you're coming for dinner, then you would not face that problem.

Herbal Tea @ RM 2.00
Above, I have shared photographs of most of their pages in their menu. The only one missing would be the stand alone vegetarian dishes. Besides the range of usual Chinese Vegetarian dishes, they also have one plate meals like Vegetarian Nasi Lemak, Vegetarian Bak Kut Teh and many more, all of which are top sellers here. And when you are here, I would recommend going for their Herbal Tea. It is truly excellent and perfect to cool down the body. My rating for this drink would be 10/10.

Assam Fish @ RM 12.00

Black Pepper Mutton @ RM 12.00
Cooking is done pretty fast here even if there is a large crowd which is usually the case. I guess they have mastered the art of managing crowd since they have been in business for many years. One of my favourites here is their Assam Fish. The mock meat is really nice and the blend of sauces are truly amazing. My rating for this preparation shall be 10/10. Similarly, their Black Pepper Mutton is another must try dish. Something very different and the texture of the mock meat is so close to the original. The sauces blend in so well they giving is such a lovely flavour. Again, one that deserves a rating of a perfect 10/10.

Sambal Petai @ RM 14.00

Dried Chili Chicken @ RM 13.00
Their Sambal Petai is another excellent preparation here. They are quite generous with the Petai and the overall flavours of the dish is so good, despite having only used mock Belacan. I would definitely give this dish 10/10 as well. Their Dried Chili Chicken however is just okay. Compared to the other three that we had dried, this wasn't just there in terms of quality. The mock chicken itself could have been better and the gravy felt a little too artificial. My rating for this shall be 7/10.

For good Chinese Vegetarian food in Kajang, my pick would be Vege Good Restaurant that is located in Taman Bukit Mewah. To name some of their best dishes, I would recommend going for their Black Pepper Mutton, Sambal Petai and Assam Fish. Even their one plate meals like Vegetarian Bak Kut Teh as well as Vegetarian Nasi Lemak is awesome. Good food and reasonable prices. Do note that they are Halal certified too.

Aman Hainanese Chicken Rice @ Medan, Indonesia

As I was looking for a famous place to have lunch this afternoon, I came across this Chicken Rice place that has been voted as the number one Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant in Medan. And the best part is that this restaurant was so close to my hotel. Having learnt about this place, I decided to drop by for lunch.

Look Out For The Signage Along Jalan S. Parman

The Restaurant

Huge Dining Space
Aman Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant is located along Jalan S. Parman. From the outside, it looks like a very small restaurant but once you're inside, your perception of this place would totally change. They occupy two shop lots and the entire dining space is air-conditioned. Even this afternoon, they were full house when I arrived and I had to wait a while before being able to occupy a table.

The Menu

Their Menu is rather simple, just the traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice with BBQ Chicken, Char Siew and Siew Yuk and a handful of other add on's. Prices are not cheap but you pay for the fame. They have a good variety of fruit juices as well. Service was speedy and the staffs were very efficient.

Fresh Orange

Clear Soup

And It Comes With Potatoes
It was a hot afternoon and I decided to go for some Fresh Orange. Yes, I know that the colour is different but truly that's the colour in Indonesia. I am not sure why the difference but that is the actual colour of the fruit without any artificial colouring. Taste wise, it was excellent and my rating for this drink shall be 9/10. The set meal also comes with some clear soup and surprisingly, here they add potatoes to the soup. The flavours of the soup was good too and the authenticity of preparation was clearly visible. 9/10 would be my rating for this soup.

Rice Set
In Indonesia, the Hainanese Rice does not come alone. There are some sides that comes along with it which was rather different for me as I have not seen this anywhere in Malaysia and even Singapore. Must be something that is unique to Indonesia. The rice itself was excellent and very nicely done. I would give that 9/10. On the sides, there were some sliced cucumber, steamed Kangkung, Potato Sambal, Boiled Tea Eggs and a concoction of some spicy green chilli paste with some onions. Very unique I would say.

Assorted Meat
This assorted meat platter comes with some Steamed Chicken, Char Siew, BBQ Chicken and Siew Yuk. I found their Steamed Chicken to be nice and I would give it a 8/10. Their BBQ Chicken was a tad too sweet but the meat was tender and nice. This too deserves a rating of 8/10. Their Char Siew was better and this I would give it a 9/10. Their Siew Yuk was the best. It was so good and it would be a shame if I gave it anything less that 10/10.

When in Medan, Indonesia and if you would like to try the local version of Hainanese Chicken Rice, I would recommend visiting Aman Hainanese Chicken Rice that is located along Jalan S. Parman. The place is mostly crowded and I would recommend coming in early as their meat variety tends to sell out quite fast. Very good food that is not to be missed.

Mie Hokkian & Mie Udang Pedas @ Medan, Indonesia

For a good bowl of Prawn Mee in Medan, I would recommend this restaurant called Mie Hokkian & Mie Udang Pedas that is located along the famous Jalan Selat Panjang. The unit number is 16 and they are located right opposite the famous Mie Tiong Sim Restaurant.

A Small Stall At The Entrance

Air Conditioned Dining Area
This restaurant is famous for their Prawn Mee and Hokkian Mee. The Prawn Mee is called Mie Dang Pedas and Hokkien Mee is another variation altogether unlike what we get in Malaysia. Despite having a narrow entrance, the dining area is pleasant, comfortable and it's air-conditioned.

Those two dishes that are famous here is prepared at the stall which is located at the entrance to the restaurant. However, their offering is not limited to this. They do have a full fledged menu and it seems that besides the standard restaurant offering, they also specialise in a number of toad based dishes. As for me, since I was alone this evening, I decided to just go for their Prawn Mee which is their top seller.

Iced Water

Mie Udang Pedas
Their Mie Udang Pedas surely looked very good and it came with so many add on's. The portion was huge despite it being the small sized one. There were many orders ahead of me and still, they did not take too long a time. In less than 15 minutes, my bowl of noodles were served.

Thick, Spicy, Mildly Sweet Broth

Pork Balls

Spicy Chilli Paste
Their Prawn Mee tasted almost similar to the Malaysian version except that they had added some sugar in the broth, thus making it mildly sweet. Still, I did enjoy it as it was very close to the preparation back home. Their chilli paste was slightly different as they did not add any shrimp paste to it but do note that it was really spicy. They were very generous with the add on's as well and they were all tasty. This is definitely a Mie Udang Pedas place that lives up to it's reputation.

Mie Tiong Sim @ Medan, Indonesia

Mie Tiong Sim is a very famous noodle place that is located along Jalan Selat Panjang, Medan. Jalan Selat Panjang is a street where you would perhaps find almost a hundred Chinese restaurants, each selling their own specialty dishes.

The Restaurant Along Jalan Selat Panjang, Medan

Crowded All Day Long
Despite being a noodle house, their house specialty is Bak Mie, a noodle dish that is almost similar to the Malaysian Dry Pan Mee which has minced pork on it. The set up is basic but comfortable and you can see the number of customers they attend to. There is never a moment when the staffs could lay back and get some rest. Constant flow of customers were coming in, some doing takeaways and some dining in. Despite being a not so large restaurant, the seating space was clean and the entire dining hall was air-conditioned.

Their Menu

Price Of Drinks

Cutlery & Sauces

Iced Water @ IDR 1,000 (RM  0.29)
As you could see, their offering was limited and it's good that they keep it that way. In fact, each restaurant here along this street only sells their specialty dishes which is not duplicated by another restaurant along that very same street.

Bak Mie Tiong Sim @ IDR 42,000 ( RM 12.00)

Complementary Clear Soup
The noodles looked excellent and it had not only minced pork but Char Siew too. The complimentary clear soup was excellent. I loved the deep flavours and this surely deserves a rating of 9/10.

Must Add Some Pickled Chilies
Once it was all stirred up, you have got to add some pickled chilies to add some taste and as a total dish, I found it to be just awesome. Besides that, they were very generous to have so many add on's as well. My rating for this preparation shall be 10/10.

Mie Tiong Sim is a noodle house that is very famous in Medan, Indonesia and their Signature dish is their Bak Mie Tiong Sim. This is somewhat similar to our local version of Dry Pan Mee with minced pork but it does differ taste wise. It comes with lots of add on's and taste wise, it was just heavenly. A highly recommended restaurant to visit if you're one who is a fan of this noodles.

Warung Sate Tegal Al-Barokah @ Medan, Indonesia

Warung Sate Tegal Al-Barokah is a Sate Restaurant in Medan that is very famous among the locals. Once again, it's not a set up that is designed for luxury style eating, nevertheless it's a typical Indonesian neighborhood restaurant that has a decently clean and comfortable dining space.

The Restaurant in Pondok Kelapa Area

Young Goat Meat is Freshly Grilled To Order

The Menu

Dining Hall

Us At The Restaurant
This restaurant is famous for their Mutton Sate and specifically the ones that is made from young goat meat. Right outside the restaurant, they have a huge parking space which makes it convenient for diners. Do note that this restaurant only opens at noon. When I checked Google, it indicated that they start at 10 am and when we arrived here at 11 am, they refused to open the doors saying that their business hours only starts at 12 pm. Well, being a family owned restaurant, I can understand that. Even at that time, their family members were seen sleeping and I knew for a fact that they were definitely not going to invite us in when the rest have not even woken up. Their menu is simple and is built around a number of mutton dishes that are native to Indonesia. After having gone through the menu, we then placed our orders.

Teh Manis Dingin @ IDR 7,000

Complimentary Clear Soup

Extremely Tasty
My drink which was a glass of Iced Tea was sent over soon after placing the orders and it was priced at IDR 7,000 which equals to RM 2.00 . I was good and not too sweet. My rating for the drink shall be 8/10. The wait time for the food was slightly longer since each dish is made to order. Shortly after that, the food started arriving. The above seen Clear Soup comes complimentary with the Tongseng Kambing. The soup was really good and it was boiled with mutton bones. That, gave it a lovely taste and moreover, there were so much spices in it. Loved it and my rating for this shall be 9/10.

Tongseng Kambing @ IDR 30,000 (RM 8.60)

Sate Kambing @ IDR 38,000 (RM 10.90)
Usually, Indonesians would go for either Tongseng or Sate and pair it with rice. Since I wanted to taste both, I had avoided the rice and that gives me some room to taste both. Their Tongseng Kambing was again pretty good. This is a Javanese dish and I have tasted it many times before in Java. Just like the best ones found in Central Java, this too was on par with those. Thick, spicy and mildly sweet and the mutton cuts were so soft and lovely. Definitely one that deserves a 8/10. Their Sate Kambing comes with some thick Sweet Soy Sauce, pickled vegetables and bird eye chilies. This is how Javanese Sate is like. Peanut Sauce Sate is from other provinces and is found across Indonesia as well. Nevertheless, those are not quite like the Malaysian Satay. Those too are spicy and mostly not sweet. Coming back to this preparation, it was awesome. The best part was the tender goat's meat and it went so well with the chili and sauces. 10/10 would be my rating for this.

If you fancy mutton, then you have got to visit Warung Sate Tegal Al-Barokah in Medan. They are located in Pondok Kelapa area and their specialty would be their Sate Kambing, Tongseng Kambing and Mutton Soup. Definitely one of the best Mutton Sate that you would get in Medan, Indonesia.
