Restaurant Passage Thru' India @ Medan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant Passage Thru' India which serves North Indian food is very famous among the expatriate community in Kuala Lumpur. They have a number of branches in the Klang Valley and this particular outlet is located in Medan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. Having excellent ratings and write ups in all expatriate magazines in the country, they have successfully established themselves as an upmarket Indian restaurant in the country.

The parking space right in front of the restaurant has been removed for some construction and therefore, parking can be an issue here. What we did was to go around the building and park illegally on the side of the road. During the day this can be an issue but at night it is fine. Once we arrived at the restaurant, in line with their name and brand, the place was very posh and the service was impeccable. There was even someone at the door who took time to explain the food offerings at this place as well as their specialty dishes.

The restaurant was beautifully designed but it is clear that it has been sometime since the last renovation was done. Nevertheless, this perfectly qualifies as a fine dining restaurant that is suitable even for romantic dinners.

My Brother Going Through The Menu
The service here was very personalised and they make the customers feel important. Everything happened so fast that we felt appreciated. Their menu had a wide range of dishes, from vegetarian items to seafood and etc. The prices were not too expensive too for the printed items, I am not sure about the seafood items as they were all labelled as following seasonal prices with no indication of what it would be. After going through the menu, we were finally ready to order. Now time to taste the dishes and give my ratings.

Papadam with Mint Chutney
Once the orders were placed, they served us the above Papadams with Mint Chutney and this came on the house, just like most classy Indian restaurant.

Papadam's
The Papadam's provided were not the normal Papadam's as these were the Masala Papadam's which are hard to get these days. They were good, the only complain that I would have is that they only provided three pieces and did not top up. Otherwise, taste wise, I would rate this at 9/10 .

Mint Chutney
The Mint Chutney too was good and as you see from the above photo, it was very green in colour. This was due to more mint being added to it. The chutney was perfect and I would rate it at 9/10 .

The Great Indian Coffee @ RM 5.50
Such a catchy name for this Indian Filter Coffee.....The Great Indian Coffee as they call it and per cup comes at RM 5.50 . Filter Coffee is another very rare drink here in Malaysia and it is one of my must try's every time I am in India. This cup of coffee was perfectly fixed, it was simply smooth! I would rate this at 9.7/10 .

Basket of Plain Naan and Butter Naan

Plain Naan @ RM 4.00 per piece
Their Naan's were quite huge. Usually I would order two each when we go out for dinner but here, 1 each was already good. What you see above is just 1 Naan that was cut into multiple pieces. The Plain Naan was priced at RM 4.00 per piece and it was nice. The bread was soft and thin. I would rate their Plain Naan at 9/10 .

Butter Naan @ RM 6.00
Their Butter Naan slacked a little and was not as good as their Plain Naan. Priced RM 2.00 more than the plain naan, this was just above average for me. I would rate this at 7/10 only.

Tadka Dhall @ RM 14.00

Tadka Dhall @ RM 14.00
Their Tadka Dhall was well flavoured, slightly on the thick side and went well with the bread. Nevertheless, I would not say that it was great, but just nice. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Bendi Masala @ RM 15.00

Bendi Masala @ RM 15.00
Their Bendi Masala was much better, in fact it would not be wrong to say that this was very good. Mildly spicy with traces of lime, the Bendi was not overcooked and it was still crispy despite being cooked with some gravy. Definitely a recommended dish here and I would rate this at 9.4/10 .

Prawn Curry Leaves @ RM 53.00

Prawn Curry Leaves @ RM 53.00
Not sure why they named this dish as Prawn Curry Leaves as it was typically deep fried masala prawns. This was one of those items that came under the seasonal pricing list. Honestly, I find this dish to be very expensive, nine small prawns for the price of RM 53.00 is just madness. Price aside, the prawns were delicious. Wonderfully spiced, it was quite spicy and delicious. For the taste, I would rate this at 9.9/10 though I may not agree with the price, otherwise a fantastic dish!

Overall, the food here was quite good and we were very happy with our dinner. The service was excellent and the only setback is their seafood items which were ridiculously priced. Otherwise, an excellent restaurant to dine and is perfect for any occasion.
