Dukes & Duchess @ TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

Dukes & Duchess is a restaurant and bar that is located along Lorong Rahim Kajai 14, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. Occupying the same lot as the previous Sid's Pub,I heard that this place serves quite decent food and great beers. Today since I was in the mood to dine out, we decided to head here for a change.

Us at the Bar
We arrived here around 8.15 pm and the place was not quite packed and we got a table easily. The waiters and bartenders seemed to be foreigners but they spoke good English and were very professional in their approach. Must have been groomed well to manage the expatriate clientele that frequent here. Besides the expatriates, this place is also patronised by the many locals who live within the vicinity. The decoration of the bar was really nice and cosy. They had a very long bar counter with stools as well as lovely dining tables to accommodate those that come here predominantly for food. Their food menu is very simple, not that many dishes but a decent variety from finger food to main courses that is sufficient for a bar but their drinks menu ran a lengthy list. They were also running a number of beer promotions and their Calrsberg promotion was very attractive. It was only RM 9 per bottle which is a very decent bargain for a bar. Their food was mostly grilled Western and Mediterranean dishes with just one Indian dish which I would write about later in this entry. As the options were mostly limited, we were pretty quick in firming up our orders and enjoyed the waiting time having a good chatter.

Ribena Lemon @ RM 9.80
Though the above drink looks like Long Island Tea, it is a non  alcoholic drink and called Ribena Lemon.  Being exactly what the name mentioned, it was a very refreshing and good drink. I would rate this drink at 10/10 . A must try drink here especially if you're in the mood for a soft drink.

Cafe Latte @ RM 9.80
I ordered the above Cafe Latte and it was very disappointing. There was something that was just not right about this and even after sitting here tonight for three hours, I hardly finished a third of this drink. I would only rate this drink at 3/10 .

Mushroom Soup @ RM 14.00
This is not homemade and is off the Campbells can. Nevertheless, it was well prepared and they had added additional breadcrumbs into the soup which helped boost the taste. For RM 14.00, the portion was also huge. I did like this dish and would rate it 7.5/10 .

Imported Sticky Pork Robs @ RM 48.00

Mashed Potato right below the meat
For RM 48.00, this dish was a washout. Both of us had this as our main course and we were fairly disappointed. The ribs were not well marinated and it tasted rather flat to us. Even by adding the additional sauce, it still did not help much. The portion was also small for the amount paid. Even after having this dish, we were still very hungry. The vegetables added were another joke. They were just a few slices of carrot and chili which tasted pretty bad. The Mashed Potato's was also an instant one and was made mostly out of water with very minimal milk in it. Overall, I would never order this dish here again as it is simply reject quality. I would only rate this dish at 2.5/10 .

Mutton Dry Curry with Potato's @ RM 24.00

This Comes With Bread
This dish was a complete contrast to the earlier one. It was very good and far surpassed my expectations. I wonder if the cook was an Indian. The dish was extremely spicy, even for me but it was way too delicious. It also had a lot of potato's in it and the mutton chunks were minimal in fat.I am very sure that this dish would go very well after a few beers. This dish also comes with some bread. Though priced at RM 24.00 , I would still order this dish here again as it is money well spent. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Spicy Pork Sausages @ RM 18.00
This dish comes with a choice of either Pork or Chicken Sausages and we went for the Pork Sausages. Though the name suggests that this dish would be spicy, it was nowhere close to that but instead they should have called it Salty Sausages. Well, we forced ourselves to eat this as we were hungry and even then we left a third of it as we could just not tolerate the salty taste. The sausages were also not fresh and it seemed like it was in the freezer for a very long time. Another dish gone bad. I would rate this dish at 2.5/10 . Never to try this again here.

Molten Lava Cake @ RM 18.00
This was quite nice. As you cut through the cake, chocolate just flows out and when mixed with the ice cream, it was just heavenly. A good dish here but in my opinion, it is overpriced for the size. Nevertheless, a dish worth trying if you do not mind the price. I would rate this dish at 8/10 .

So far tonight, we only found the Mutton dish and the Cake to be good. The Pork Ribs and the Pork Sausages were a major let down. The beers and other alcoholic beverages seemed good from my observation and the place was also very comfortable. It also makes a great place to catch up with friends and to have business discussions. Would I return here, yeah I would but surely not for the dishes that failed by my standards.
