Located in a quiet corner of Desa Aman Puri, lies Restaurant La Castle that serves great Chinese home cooked dishes. I first sighted this restaurant when I was here a few weeks ago to dine at Restaurant Lan Je that is just a few doors away and immediately the signage outside the restaurant bearing a clay pot curry dish drew my attention and curiosity to visit this restaurant. As that was a Wednesday, this restaurant happened to be close for it's fortnightly closure and I made a mental note then that I must return to try this restaurant pretty soon. As my parents were down again, this place immediately came to my attention and packed with my SLR, we head out here for dinner.

The Sign That Drew My Attention |
This restaurant has two separate dining sections. The exterior section is for smokers and the indoor section is for non smokers. Being a smoker myself, I preferred to sit inside specifically with the present weather that is rather hot. I don't mind just stepping out for a few minutes to have a smoke and then step in and comfortably have my dinner.
Signature Dishes Being Lined Up On the Walls |
Interior of the Restaurant |
Most of their signature dishes were lined up on the wall in front of us. Also, they have a very well designed menu which listed a whole array of dishes that they offer here. The menu was also clearly segmented based on the type of dish i.e. Fish, Pork, Lamb, Vegetable etc. The lady boss was very kind to us and she stood by our table in assisting us with the orders. She also made sure that we did not order too much and also that the portion sizes that we ordered were just about right for the four of us. I truly find her to be very hospitable and the service here to be above par.
Chili & Garlic |
Oolong Tea @ RM 4.50 per pot |
Within a short time, our tea was served. We ordered a pot of Oolong Tea and is cost us RM 4.50 . I would also like to add here that they are well stocked and have a decent variety of tea to choose from.
White Rice @ RM 1.00 Each |
After around 15 minutes of waiting, the dishes started arriving one after another and I shall review them individually in the lines to follow. We all had rice and a bowl of rice here is sold at RM 1.00 each.
Amaranth Fish Ball Soup @ RM 8.00 |
The first dish to arrive was the above soup. It is called Amaranth Fish Ball Soup and is priced at RM 8.00 for this portion size. This was sufficient for the four of us and most of us had a second helping. The soup was delicious and the fish balls were soft and fresh. Definitely a good dish to order here. I would rate this dish at 8.9/10 .
Tofu with Minced Mushroom @ RM 8.00 |
This was another excellent dish and all of us thoroughly enjoyed this dish. It contained great amounts of the minced mushrooms and the tofu tasted pretty good. Though the outer skin was crispy, the inside was still soft and lovely, just the way it should be. The sauces blended well with the Tofu too. I would rate this dish at 9.3/10 .
Fried Belacan Eggs @ RM 8.00 |
The Fried Belacan Eggs was a mediocre dish. I was expecting more out of this dish but it was not able to bring out the flavours of the Belacan. This dish can definitely be improved over time. My rating for this dish would only be 5.9/10 .
Golden Pork Ribs @ RM 13.00 |
The Golden Pork Ribs was another heavenly dish. The Pork Ribs were just the right size and with the right amount of meat attached. The flavouring and coating on the meat was just about right too. An almost well perfected dish.I would recommend this dish to anyone. My ratings for this dish would be 9.5/10 .
Cumin Curry Lamb Claypot @ RM 16.00 |
This is another one of their signature dishes. They prepare the Curry Claypot in a number of variations using different meat but we went for the Cumin Curry Lamb Claypot. This dish came packed with lamb, potato and tofu and it was really nice. The gravy too was thick and nice. One setback with the dish was that since they added a lot of potato's, it had absorbed the salt and it seemed as if the dish did not have enough salt. It would have been ideal in this situation for an extra pinch of salt to be added which would have made it perfect. Had there been lesser potato's, than it would have been perfect again. I would still say that this was a good dish and would recommend this dish. My ratings for this would be 9.5/10 .
Platter of Fruits |
Finally, we were served the above Watermelon just to round up the meal. The Watermelon was served cold and it was sweet and nice. On the whole, this is a highly recommended restaurant for a number of reasons. They are clean, service is good, food is good, price is decent and above all, they listen to your recommendations. Another round of Kudos to the lady boss that served us tonight as she was very professional and courteous. I would surely come back soon to try more dishes.
