Restoran Yong Thau Foo Leong Ya is a very old name when it comes to the Yong Tau Foo business. Having started their trade decades ago to the tin miners of Kuala Lumpur, today they have a number of restaurants in the Seri Kembangan area. Just in Taman Sungai Besi Indah, they have two outlets, one which is designed more like a high end place with air conditioned spaces and another that is dressed like a typical Chinese restaurant. Today, I visited the latter one.

Interior of the Restaurant |
This outlet occupies a corner unit in Taman Sungai Besi Indah. I was told that this is where the kitchen is and it is from this outlet that the Yong Thau Foo is transported and distributed to the other outlets. Adorning the walls, you would see a number of newspaper write ups on this restaurant.

The service here is quite good as only the locals come here and most tourists or those coming from outside Seri Kembangan would head to their other outlet as it is better designed. That makes this place less busy and you are almost immediately attended to by the lady boss. The menu not only covers their signature dishes which is their Yong Tau Foo and Paper Chicken but has been expanded to cater for a number of other seafood and meat dishes. Since it was just the two of us, we decided to go light and try a variety of their Yong Tau Foo and other Tofu dishes, all of which are made here at this outlet.

Herbal Tea @ RM 1.80 |
Their Herbal Tea was quite good but it was priced on the high side. Per glass was charged at RM 1.80 . Price aside, I would rate their Herbal Tea at 8.8/10 .

Assorted Yong Tau Foo @ RM 10.40 |
The Yong Tau Foo dish here comes with an option of you choosing the items and the quantity of each or you may go for their standard assorted Yang Tau Foo dish which is priced at RM 10.40 . In this set, you get one Fried Fu Chok, 1 Stuffed Chili, 2 Fish Balls, 1 Stuffed Fried Tofu, 1 Stuffed Steamed Tofu, 1 Stuffed Bitter Gourd and 1 Stuffed Brinjals and this is served in a platter with hot and thick sweet sauce. You can have the chili sauce on the sides if you want. Their Yong Tau Foo was good and tasted different to the ones that you usually get in Kuala Lumpur. They were also very fresh. Definitely some good stuff here. I would rate this dish at 9.2/10 .

House Specialty Tau Foo @ RM 5.20 |
|
The Dip Sauce |
Their House Specialty Tau Foo priced at RM 5.20 and comes in 4 slices per serving. On the sides, you get some very spicy chili dip sauce. These Tau Foo were once again unique as they were a mix between some vegetables which seemed like carrots, tofu and fish meat and together, it was marvelous. Neither had a dominating taste to this dish and it was a perfect blend that brought about a very unique taste. I would definitely not mind having another dish of the same. Perfectly done, I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Thai Style To Fu @ RM 10.00 |
Although this is a commonly available dish, the preparation method here was good and above all, I just loved the freshness of the Tofu and the way it had been fried to a perfect crisp. Do note that this is an extremely spicy dish as the toppings are loaded with chilies. Despite being spicy, the topping had a sweet and sour taste to it which is exactly how this dish should be. Very well prepared. I would rate this dish at 9.2/10 .
Despite this outlet being a no frills outlet, the food was definitely very good and I would not mind travelling the distance just to have the same again.Overall, the food is excellent, the price very reasonable (except for the Herbal Tea) and the service was speedy though nothing memorable about it. Definitely a highly recommended restaurant.
