Resto Surabaya @ Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya

Resto Surabaya, located in Bandar Sunway, brings to us the best of East Java cuisine at very reasonable prices. I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend of mine who is an Indonesian food lover, just like me and ever since, I have made a mental note to visit this restaurant. Due to the heavy traffic in Bandar Sunway, I had avoided visiting this place until today, which is a Public Holiday and hence the roads would be clear. This restaurant is located in Dataran Mentari and is along the shop lot facing Mc Donalds. Being a road fronting unit, it is not difficult to locate this restaurant.

This restaurant has a very simple layout, reminds me of the restaurants in Indonesia. There is an open air dining space as well as an air-conditioned dining hall. All the staffs are Indonesians, not sure if they are family members and they were very quick to attend to customers.

The Menu
The menu had a good spread of Indonesian favourites. I could see many of my favourite dishes there and I was already salivating as I was going through the menu. The prices were not printed on the menu but I had a feeling that they would be very reasonable. Besides locals, there were a lot of Indonesian tourists who were coming here for their meals and since they provide delivery service to within Bandar Sunway, there seemed to be a lot of orders coming in through the telephone too.

Teh Botol @ RM 5.00
Teh Botol is usually my staple drink when I am in Indonesia and I was glad that this was available here, of course at a premium due to the export taxes. There this would have cost somewhere along RM 1.50 but here, due to the packaging, it was priced at RM 5.00 . Taste wise, it was the same and I was delighted.

Avocado Juice @ RM 6.50
This Avocado Juice was fixed perfectly well too. It was exactly the same as you would get it back there. I would rate this drink at 9/10 .

White Rice @ RM 1.50 per plate

Tahu & Tempe Crispy @ RM 4.50

Tahu & Tempe Crispy @ RM 4.50
This was a perfect dish. Both the Tofu and the Tempe were nicely spiced and fried to a golden brown crisp. Both were fantastic and I would rate this dish at 9.5/10 .

Ayam Penyet Set @ RM 8.00

Super Spicy Chili Paste

Crispy Fried Chicken
The Ayam Penyet set comes with a fried chicken thigh, some Tofu, Tempe and a super spicy chili paste. The fried chicken was good and the complimenting chili paste was superb. It was something to die for. I would rate this total combination at 9.7/10 .

Telur Balado @ RM 4.00

Telur Balado @ RM 4.00
For those that love spicy dishes, then this is a must try item. Two boiled eggs are lightly fried at the outer skin and then a super spicy Sambal is spread on top of it. Good to be eaten on its own too or with rice for those who would prefer to subdue the spiciness. My rating for this shall be 10/10 .

Ikan Goreng Joget @ RM 11.50

Also known as the Damcing Fish, this dish was perfect once again and I was surprised that it came at just RM 11.50 . For the same dish, you would pay almost a RM 100 at the famous Dancing Fish restaurant located in Bangsar Shopping Complex. Taste wise, this was even better. I would rate this at 9.6/10 .

On the whole, I must confess that we had a fantastic dinner here and all the dishes were excellent and at very reasonable prices too, if not cheap. If you would like to have some good Indonesian food, this is definitely a good place to head to.
