Restoran Claypot Junction @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Claypot Junction is one of the recent Chinese restaurants in Tanjung Malim that started sometime around mid June this year. Located in Taman Anggerik Desa, they occupy the first shop unit facing the hospital on one side and the old Babu Shop on the other side (which is now a motorcycle repair shop). Being not too far from my place, every time I pass this restaurant, the crowd is just encouraging. As such, we decided to drop in for lunch this afternoon.

An Assortment of Mixed Rice Dishes
I was always under the impression that this place sells the Claypot Chicken Rice and only when we arrived this afternoon, did I learn that their main lunch hour business is the Chap Fan style i.e. Chinese Economy Mixed Rice.  For dinner, they serve a number of dishes, all cooked to order based on their menu and these dishes are served in claypots. Now I know how they coined the name 'Claypot Junction'. Since we were already here, we decided to just go ahead with whats available.

Good Variety Of Mixed Rice Items

Good Variety Of Mixed Rice Items
I was informed that on average, they would be having close to around 30 dishes daily, their signature Curry Chicken is one that would definitely be available daily, the rest would rotate on daily rotations. Even this afternoon, I was impressed with the variety and they all looked good.

A Variety Of Dishes

White Rice

Complimentary Chinese Tea
Instead of going like how others' would generally go for as far as the Chinese Mixed Rice is concerned, I got a consensus on the dishes that most of them would like to have and decided to dish out and serve dish by dish on individual plates. This way, all of us gets to try more variety. Of course, each one of us ordered a plate of White Rice too. Apparently, they seem to be having a promotion these days. With every plate of White Rice (regardless of the sides) everyone gets a complimentary soup of the day and free flow of Chinese Tea and Water. The soup thingy is standard everywhere but the Chinese Tea and Water is a good initiative. I does not cost them much and after all, how much can one consume after a full meal. Nevertheless, it's surely a good strategy.

Complimentary Soup

Complimentary Soup
Today's complimentary soup was the famous Chicken Feet Soup. Chicken Feet is a delicacy that the Chinese would highly prefer. I have seen this being prepared in many restaurants but they are very much limited with the number of 'Chicken Feet' added. Here they were way generous and made sure that every bowl that was sent out had one. The soup was tasty too and I would rate this at 8/10 .

Brinjals with Long Beans and Petai

Brinjals with Long Beans and Petai
A lovely preparation that had been cooked using Brinjals, Long Beans and Petai. They had also added ground chili, dried shrimps and Tauchu. Sweet, spicy and a slight saltiness and it was just delicious. Loved it and I would rate this at 8.5/10 . A recommended dish!

Vegetable

Vegetable
This had been an excellent preparation. A simple dish stir fried with garlic but it tasted really nice. I like the way the greens were still fresh and crunchy. This disappeared faster than Chipsmore. I would rate this at 8.5/10 . A recommended dish!

Mapo Taufu

Mapo Taufu
In my opinion, this was quite an ordinary dish. It had all the essential ingredients but lacked some sauces. Would have been better if some dried shrimps were added too. Overall it was just decent. I would rate this at 6/10 .

Steamed Eggs

Steamed Eggs
This steamed egg was also quite average in taste. It would have been surely better if minced pork had been added. Having not added it, one has to solely rely on the soy sauce and the oil used to bring about the right flavours and they didn't quite succeed. Just average and I would rate this at 5.5/10 .

Curry Chicken with Potatoes

Curry Chicken with Potatoes
Their Curry Chicken was indeed fantastic and I truly agree when they say that this is their Signature dish and it truly was. Cooked with loads of potatoes in a thick gravy, mildly spicy and it was very delicious. The best that we tried this afternoon! A highly recommended dish! I would rate this at 9.5/10 .

Chicken Sausages in Tomato Sauce

Chicken Sausages in Tomato Sauce
Another decent dish. The preparation had been good but the mini frankfurters used had not been the best of commercial qualities. In fact, it had been one of the cheaper ones. Having said that, the mini franks were flat tasting and that brought down the entire dish. If they up the quality slightly, then the dish would be noticeably good. I would rate this at 5/10 .

Deep Fried Chinese Pomfret  with Onion and Garlic Toppings

These looked good and they tasted good too. They had also diced bird eye chilies and included into the toppings. Another good one here that I would recommend. Spicy but tasty. I would rate this at 8.5/10 .

Lunch In Progress
Some of the dishes fared quite average whereas some were really good. Variety of dishes available were very good too. Our total meal came to RM 30.00  today which I feel was slightly on the high side. Perhaps the Chinese Pomfret would have been the culprit as it's quite an expensive fish.

I would definitely love to return someday to try their dinner variety that's served in claypots. Best to head early as food tends to finish quite fast. Overall, an okay place for a quick meal.

我是甲洞三宝寺 (暹廟) SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION NO: 19-21 JALAN 38 TAMAN DESA JAYA KEPONG 52100 KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.
