Restoran Tomyam Marina @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

Tomyam Marina is the latest addition to the consistently growing Tomyam restaurants in Tanjung Malim. This restaurant is located in Taman Universiti where most of the new restaurants seem to be mushrooming, possibly because it's close proximity to the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. This would be my second visit here. The last time I dropped by, I was here for their Tomyam variety and I was happy with the food. This evening, having had a small get together with a group of old friends, we decided to come here again.

The Restaurant In Taman Universiti

Can't Miss The Sampan In Front Of The Restaurant
Previously (that's like 6 months ago), this used to be a Malay Seafood restaurant and that did not last too long, probably they existed just under three months. I did not manage to visit that restaurant but I was told by some of my friends that they had been charging premium prices and as such, were forced to close down simply because of lack of customers. Having taken over log, stock and barrel, it was a good start for these guys. The restaurant looked good despite being simple in design. I was very impressed with the level of cleanliness at this place. I must say that it was very clean. We were here at around 8.00 pm and there were a couple of tables that were occupied. In fact, more and more customers were coming in post 10 pm. Must be after the night classes at the University.

In a matter of minutes, one of their staffs brought over the menu. The menu was very impressive. I was impressed to see the variety of Fried Rice dishes that they offered and the prices were very cheap. That's 22 different varieties. Besides the other common dishes, they also had some very attractive economy meal sets. Their meal set's were very good value for money. I know this as this was exactly what I had the last trip here. I did not include menu options here because I had already included them in a previous entry. If you would be keen to look at them, please do Google this restaurant's name and that link would be displayed in the top three options. My friends' too were very impressed with the variety of Fried Rice they offered and unanimously, we all agreed to go for just that. We then ordered three different types from the menu with an understanding that we could share and taste all three.

Iced Syrup Limau @ RM 1.50

Iced Teh O @ RM 1.50

Iced Syrup @ RM 1.30
As there were quite a number of orders, it did take them a while to send the drinks over. All the drinks were good. Not those watered down versions that we get when you order drinks with ice These were really good. On average, I would rate them at 8/10 .

Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin @ RM 4.50

Complimentary Clear Soup
Firstly, I would like to apologise as the photographs are not too good due to low lighting. Tried my best to get some decent shots but these were all that I could achieve using my mobile phone camera. Coming back to our dinner tonight, the first dish to arrive with this Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin. All the sets come with a complimentary bowl of Clear Soup. First, lets get to their Clear Soup. It was just an ordinary soup with some Fried Onions, Salt and some Pepper. Nothing great actually. It was not even one that was made using the waste parts of chicken. Very ordinary and I would rate this at 2/10 . Their Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin however was tasty. Huge portions with lavish amounts of Salted Fish. And these were not the diced Salted Fish. They were actually large cube size cuts and were found in abundance in the dish. We all loved it and I would rate this at 8/10 .

Nasi Goreng Black Pepper @ RM 5.00

Cute Looking Cutlery
This was an excellent preparation. Their Nasi Goreng Black Pepper actually had loads of Black Pepper in it. I'm sure that you would have observed it right away from the photographs. Besides that, they had also added some thinly sliced venison meat that had gone perfectly well with the rest of the dish. Good job guys! I would rate this at 9/10 . The cutlery provided was a joke. It seemed like those that would be used for babies. I wonder why they went for these. Style?  Perhaps it is. Well, I was not too bothered as long as they were still functional and served the purpose.

Telur Dadar @ RM 1.50 each

Telur Dadar @ RM 1.50 each
As an add on, we also ordered a few of these too. Reasonably priced at RM 1.50 each, this was a good one and not those overly greasy types. Mildly salted with just the right amount of onions. I would rate this at 8/10 .

Nasi Goreng Padprik @ RM 5.50

Nasi Goreng Padprik @ RM 5.50

Complimentary Clear Soup
Another excellent one that we tried tonight was their Nasi Goreng Padprik. The Fried Rice itself was quite basic as it was meant to be so. The true taste should come from the 'Padprik' and that's exactly how it was. Spicy, sweet and sour, with chunks of chicken cubes and crunchy long beans and onions, it was indeed a treat! Loved it! I would rate this at 9/10 .

I think that they have done a very good job with these Nasi Goreng's that we tried tonight. There are cases where some restaurants actually boast as having a huge variety of Fried Rice and when you end up trying, they all taste more or less the same. This was not at all the case here. Each one of these dishes had a unique taste and they were all lovely. Would love to try out their other varieties too and I'm definitely coming back soon!

我是甲洞三宝寺 (暹廟) SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION NO: 19-21 JALAN 38 TAMAN DESA JAYA KEPONG 52100 KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.
