Melur Jaya Curry House is an Indian Muslim restaurant that is located along Jalan Bunga Raya in Tanjung Malim. For those old timers, it is just opposite to where the old Angsoka Supermarket was many years ago. For those new comers, this is just beside the Wet Market in the heart of Tanjung Malim town. Some of you may know that this belongs to one of my best buddies, a childhood friend. Nevertheless, I shall be unprejudiced and completely neutral with my review. Till date, I have only tried their Mee Goreng and Rojak which I have posted some time back in February this year and this would the the first time that I am trying their Rice and Curries. For those who would be interested to read my previous review, I am attaching the link here for your convenience.
http://venoth.blogspot.com/2015/02/melur-jaya-curry-house-tanjung-malim.html One major problem here would be parking. As the place is close to major shopping outlets and the Wet Market, parking can be an all day long issue. Even today, I had to park two blocks away and walk up here.

Nice and Bright Interior |

Love The Bright Lighting |
It's just like any other Indian Muslim restaurants in town. The place was clean, brightly lit and the staffs were quick on their feet. Didn't keep me waiting too long to take my orders. Having seated, I ordered a glass of Teh Tarik and went over to check what's available at their curries station. Only about 50% of the the items were available and the rest were sold out. Still, there were some of those that I fancy and I decided to go on with my mission. Having collected my dinner, I returned to my table.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.20 |

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.20 |
Their Teh Tarik was cheaper than other similar restaurants in town. Generally this is priced at RM 1.30 per glass but it was priced at RM 1.20 here. But, look at the volume. I only got 4/5th of a glass whereas other places will fill it right to the brim. Marketing strategy? Perhaps. Otherwise, the Tea was good. In fact it was very good and I would rate this at 9/10 .

My Dinner @ RM 9.00 |

My Dinner @ RM 9.00 |
I took a plate full of Rice, Fish Curry, a piece of Curried Fish, some Long Beans Perattal and a piece of Honey Chicken. They all looked good indeed but I'd never know until I try them. RM 9.00 for this? Well, looks reasonable to me cause I've taken a Fish and Chicken and so, the price is about right.

Long Beans Perattal |
|
Long Beans Perattal |
The Long Beans were indeed fresh but the preparation was quite mediocre. Something was just lacking in it. Spices? I think so too. Just short of something but not sure what exactly. Not one for the taste but just the nutrients. I would rate this at 5.5/10 .
|
Fish Curry |
Their Fish Curry was very thick and nice but taste wise, once again something was lacking and I think it's tamarind. If only that would have been right, then this would have been a winner. Just look at it. It looks so good and it's a shame that it just didn't strike right. I would rate this at 6/10 .
|
Curried Fish |
It's a good fish that they had used but it was too soft and cracked easily. My hunch says that it could have been yesterday's left over. Just a hunch and don't sue me for that! Freshness was something that completely lacked and the fish had lost it's juiciness. Sadly, didn't enjoy this very much and I would rate this at 5/10 .

Honey Chicken |
|
Honey Chicken |
This I can tell for sure that it's yesterday's Fried Chicken that had been reborn today as Honey Chicken. The Chicken was stiff and hard and I almost broke my fork and spoon trying to eat this. The honey texture just didn't gel in and as such, tasted so artificial. A big no to this. I would only rate this at 2/10 . Conversion of dishes is common in most restaurants but this was just beyond repair.

My Dinner Bill For This Evening |
In short, their Tea was very good except that the volume didn't justify the price. The rice and curries that I tried today were all not up to the mark that I expect from an eatery. Of course they were edible and would satisfy any hungry tummy but in terms of satisfying your taste buds, they failed big time. If this was an Ashram, then I wouldn't have such expectations as no one pays for the food but being in business, it's very competitive out there and customers' want value for their dollar these days. I'm truly hoping that they would make the necessary changes and by doing just that, they would surely be able to win my vote of confidence all over again.

我是甲洞三宝寺 (暹廟) SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION NO: 19-21 JALAN 38 TAMAN DESA JAYA KEPONG 52100 KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA.
