After about a year, back to e Place for lunch. This restaurant is a sister restaurant of Easy Cafe, both of which are located in Taman Ketoyong Permai, Tanjung Malim. This restaurant as well as it's sister restaurant needs no introduction to the locals. It is one of those Halal Chinese restaurants that is very famous. Business has been so good for them and the owners have only kept expanding the premises. For those that have been following me for a while, you would have noticed that I always prefer stall food over restaurants, not for any reason but just a preference as I feel that the street food scene in Malaysia is pretty good and comparatively good in taste with these restaurants. However, since I had a friend from Scotland today and she was somehow against these stall food as she was worried about hygiene, I had to bring her here.
The Restaurant in Taman Ketoyong Permai |
A Few Outdoor Tables |
Air-conditioned Indoor Dining Space |
On my previous visit and blog entry on this place, I had provided photographs of their entire menu and having done that then, I did not feel the need to do so again this time. This restaurant now occupies two shop lots. One is for their usual menu items which covers western dishes, Chinese dishes and some vegetarian dishes and the other unit is specifically reserved for their Steamboat, another improvisation that they have recently introduced to their menu. I would say that the prices are quite reasonable here bearing in mind the air conditioned set up. Even their Steamboat sets looked very interesting and reasonably priced. Since it was just the two of us, steamboat didn't seem like the right option and so we just opted to having a few dishes without rice. Though the owners are Chinese, in compliance to the Halal requirement, all their staffs are Malay's. The place is clean but lighting is a little dim. Nevertheless, it still seemed quite cosy and nice.
Ipoh White Coffee @ RM 3.50 |
It wasn't long for the drinks to arrive. The above White Coffee is my all time favourite drink here and it's priced at RM 3.50 per glass. Somehow, I find it to be quite close to the one's that I have had in Ipoh. Very similar taste. Even the ones from Old Town White Coffee isn't as good and again, this is just my opinion. For me, I would rate this at 9/10. My friend had a glass of Watermelon juice and she too said that her drink was pretty good.
Kailan with Garlic @ RM 6.00 |
The first dish to arrive was the above Kailan Stir Fried with Garlic and it was priced at RM 6.00 . For the price, I would say that the portions were huge, in fact way more than what we get at the local Chinese restaurants. The greens were fresh, very fresh and they weren't skimpy with the amount of garlic used and that gave it such an amazing aroma and taste. Yes, we totally loved this dish. The greens were still crunchy and that again was another plus point. I would rate this preparation at 9/10.
Assorted Mushrooms Stir Fried with Broccoli @ RM 8.00 |
Assorted Mushrooms stir fried with Broccoli and this was priced at RM 8.00 . Just look at the variety of mushrooms provided. It was a Wow dish! The earlier dish was good but this one was simply impressive and the variety of mushrooms were simply amazing. Each bite was heavenly and the flavours were so good. A dish that is not to be missed at this restaurant and it would be a shame to rate this anything less than a perfect 10/10.
Six Pieces of Potato Samosa with Chili Dip @ RM 6.00 |
These Potato Samosas were nothing much as I know that they were those frozen one's sold in supermarkets. For the effort of frying them, they had charged us RM 1.00 each. Well, we can't expect anything less in this kind of a posh set up. I won't rate these as it was not their own preparation. They just helped to fry them and all credit in terms of the taste, goes to the respective companies that mass produced them.
Overall, it was a good meal and except for the last dish, the rest were very reasonably priced. I know that many people come here for their Western meals but for a change, please do look into these Chinese dishes too. You'd be impressed with the taste for sure.
