I am a huge fan of Indonesian food and when I found out that there's such place in Cyberjaya, I decided to head there for dinner. Ayam Penyet Indorasa specialises in the 'penyet' style dishes but they are not limited to chicken. This restaurant is located on the Glomac Cyberjaya side of town and is just a few doors away from Pelita Nasi Kandar. During the day, parking is a huge challenge here and that was the reason that I visited them for dinner.
The Restaurant Along Jalan GC 1 |
Business seems to be very good here. I was told that during lunch hours, it's almost impossible to get a place to sit. The restaurant itself isn't too big and that contributes to this congestion as well. Even this evening, I arrived at 8.00 pm and even then, the crowd was very encouraging.
Being 'Penyet' specialists, they do have a wide range of dishes covering the various types of cooking styles. For those who are on a budget, they have set meals as well. As it was already late in the evening which was just a few hours from their closing time, they had run out of Chicken Drumstick and had other meat cut's available instead. I guess that must be a favourite here as there was a huge sign hung up at the entrance informing patrons about this. Ordering was a breeze as the waiter was quite helpful.
Teh O |
Indonesian Style Chicken Bone Soup |
Since I went for the set, the above two items were part of it and were provided complimentary. It's still good value compared to going Ala Carte which ends up being much more expensive. Their Teh O Ice was nice and the soup was rather unique. Made using turmeric, it had a yellowish colour to it and was sweet and sour. Very different when compared to the Malay style of preparation.
Ayam Penyet Set @ RM 10.50 |
For the portion size, I must agree that the price was worth it. The mains came with a large chunk of smashed chicken, rice, rice crackers and some very spicy Red Sambal (Sambal Merah). This is the first time I am seeing Sambal Merah being served with this dish. Usually it is Sambal Ijo and this I am saying based on my experience dining in a number of Ayam Penyet restaurants in Indonesia. The chicken was perfect. Not overdone while maintaining it's crisp. And that Sambal Merah was simply awesome. Even I found it a little spicy and could not go for much but I loved it. Overall, I would rate this dish at 9/10.
Telur Penyet @ RM 5.00 |
Their Telur Penyet was nothing much. Hard boiled eggs were dipped in a batter and deep fried. Compared to the chicken, this seemed very ordinary to me. The only thing that was great with this dish was the Sambal Merah. If I were just to judge based on the eggs, I'd give this 7/10. Most likely, I would skip this the next time around.
Sotong Penyet @ RM 8.00 |
This Sotong Penyet was heavenly. In fact, it was better than the chicken. The calamaris were coated in a spiced up batter and deep fried. So crispy on the outside and extremely soft and juicy on the inside. Totally amazing stuff and I would give this 10/10.
Based on the dishes that I had tried this evening, the winner is surely their Sotong Penyet and followed by their Ayam Penyet. The Sambal was extremely good too. Telur Penyet wasn't so great and again, that's based on my taste buds. If you love this Penyet variety, then you should give this place a try. In fact, I find this place to be better than those famous chains. It could also be so because the owners right up to the chefs and staffs are all Indonesians and hence, more authentic flavours.
