We have been coming here like almost every weekend in the past and I have tried avoiding this place simply because I wanted to try out other restaurants here in Tanjung Malim. After being away for almost three months, we are here again this afternoon for lunch.

Restaurant Ga Onn in Tanjung Malim |
Interior of the restaurant |
Busy During Lunch |
As it was a Public Holiday today, the restaurant seemed more crowded than usual for lunch. Usually their main business is dinner.
Cutlery in Hot Water |
Chili and Garlic |
Chinese Tea @ RM 0.50 per glass |
Instead of having the usual dishes, today we decided on exploring the other dishes that this restaurant has to offer. Luckily the lady boss was so used to us, she spent some time at our table in explaining the other dishes.
Small White Rice @ RM 1.00 per plate |
The price of the above has surely gone up since our last visit. Usually, the small sized one would be RM 0.80 but now the price is RM 1.00 per plate.
Claypot Tofu @ RM 10.00 |
Claypot Tofu @ RM 10.00 |
The Claypot Tofu's price has been consistent with their other Tofu dishes but the portion has become much lesser. Taste wise too, it was not up to the mark. In terms of quantity, there was not much tofu in the dish. It is only because of the broth that the dish looks so full. A little disappointment. I would rate this at 6/10.
Petai Sambal @ RM 8.00 |
Petai Sambal @ RM 8.00 |
To our surprise, the Petai Sambal's quantity too has shrunk. This is two thirds of what they would usually serve for the same price. Coming to the taste, this dish was also a let down. Wondering weather they had changed the chef or the ingredients have been reduced to cut cost, either way, it isn't good. I would rate this at 6.5/10 .
Seafood Curry @ RM 20.00 |
Seafood Curry @ RM 20.00 |
This again came in a very slim container which was only an inch deep. For the quantity, the price of RM 20.00 is definitely steep. I had the same about a month back in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh is a high end restaurant and for the same price, we got a large pot filled with seafood and curry. The amount of seafood in the dish too is very minimal, just some fish slices, a few prawns and some squid and the rest were vegetables. The curry however, tasted good and for the curry alone, I would rate this dish at 9/10 .
Ginger and Egg Soup @ RM 15.00 |

Ginger and Egg Soup @ RM 15.00 |
A Bowl of Soup |
This soup was the dish of the day. It was very nice and there were loads of Fish Paste (Yee Huat) and other ingredients added into the soup. The taste of ginger was also strong and it tasted nice. From the big bowl, we got to scoop up into 5 small bowls and for the price of RM 15.00, that's definitely a good deal. I would rate this soup at 8.5/10 .
Besides the soup, everything else was not up to expectation. I wonder what had happened at this restaurant as the food here used to be pretty good and cheap. Today, prices have gone up and the taste has dwindled. I do hope that it was just a glitch today and not a permanent situation here.
