Restaurant and Bar Home & Away @ Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant and Bar Home & Away started their first outlet in Hartamas and recently they have opened another four outlets across the Klang Valley. I used to love their food in their Hartamas outlet as they used to serve excellent Tamil food like Mutton Varuval, Chicken Perattal, Prawn Sambal etc. Since it is Christmas Eve today, my brother suggested on going out to a Pub and he was thinking of the same outlet in Hartamas as I did bring him there once and he too loved the food. Being Christmas Eve, I was thinking that it might not be a good idea to head to Hartamas and I informed him that this Pub has opened another outlet in TTDI a few months back. Mutually, we agreed to try the place out.

Pool Tables and Big Screens
The place is located along Lorong Rahim Kajai 14 which is where all the famous watering holes are located. The place is just a few months old and as such, everything was new and nice. The place seemed quite crowded but not as crowded as their older neighbours'. Just like their Hartamas outlet, this too had a large screen and a pool table.

The drinks menu had a good spread of offering but to me, everything seemed like it's exorbitant. Perhaps that is the usual pub prices. I am not familiar with the prices as I hardly go to pubs. Even this, I tagged along for the food. They had some ongoing promotions but those were not available for the day as it was the festive season. And so we opted for a Pint of Tiger Beer each.

1 Pint of Tiger Beer @ RM 15.50
Tiger Draft was priced at RM 15.50 a pint. The beer was chilled but would have been great if the glass was chilled too. The staffs here are efficient and they keep walking over to your table to see if you are done and thus to get you to order another round. We however, decided to just go slow.

The food was generally the main reason why we came here tonight and without wasting much time, we asked for the food menu. The menu was mostly the same as their Hartamas outlet with just some new dishes added to it. The new items in the menu would have been the Vegetarian dishes. Prices still seemed the same. For a start, we decided to go for their Mutton Varuval.

White Bread
Just like their Hartamas outlet, all food items here are served with three slices of White Bread. It is good to have this especially with dishes that comes with a lot of gravy.

Mutton Varuval @ RM 18.00

Mutton Varuval @ RM 18.00
The Mutton Varuval was served on a large platter and was priced at RM 18.00 . I understand that it is a pub and hence the pricing is acceptable. Taste wise, it was a very disappointing dish. I was truly hoping for the same taste as per their Hartamas outlet but this was horrible. The Mutton itself was mostly fatty. The spices also seemed very minimal and the taste was simply off. Regretted ordering this dish. I wonder if it is the same with their Hartamas outlet now. I would only rate this at 4/10 . Never going to order this again at this particular outlet.

Prawn Masala @ RM 17.00

Prawn Masala @ RM 17.00
Their Prawn Masala again was served with another three slices of bread. Taste wise, this was very much better than the earlier dish but the only problem was that the prawns were added when they were still partially frozen and thus the gravy had not seeped in to the prawns making it rather tasteless as you bite the prawns. The gravy however was very nice. But the combination just did not set in well and with that being said, I would rate this dish at 7/10 only. Still not up to the mark of what I tasted at their Hartamas outlet.

Bill
Having been generally disappointed with the food here this evening, we just had another beer each and decided on leaving. I was definitely hoping for much more from this place and it was truly a let down, when it comes to the food. It's been some years since I visited their Hartamas outlet and I hope that their food quality is still intact. I doubt if I would return to this outlet again.
