Broga Recreational Fishing Park @ Broga, Selangor

Day before yesterday, I did mention that the town of Broga is a hidden gem for cheap and delicious Chinese seafood  and here's the first entry showcasing one of those very famous restaurants in Broga. It would be very difficult for me to give you a precise address for this place or for you to even use Waze to locate this place as after a certain point, there's no cellphone reception. So you'd have to follow the old school way in order to reach this place. Firstly, set your destination at University of Nottingham on your GPS and get yourself there. Once you come to Nottingham, keep driving straight all the way. Even if it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere, just keep driving straight and you'd come to the town of Broga. From here, continue straight and you'd see a lot of seafood restaurants on both sides of the road. Once you come to an intersection which marks the border of Selangor - Negeri Sembilan, naturally the road will turn right but you keep driving straight. There would be the famous Dato Sak Chinese Temple with a small lane on the left which says road closes at 7 pm. Take that road and keep going straight. At this point, you'd loose hand phone signals but don't worry. Shortly, you would once again see lots of huge Chinese farm like restaurants on both sides. Keep going straight till the last restaurant which is this Broga Recreational Fishing Park which would be on your left.

The Restaurant In A Farm

A Simple Shack

Grilled Using Conventional Methods
Once inside, you would need to drive along that pond and would come to the car park area in a short while. Don't be surprised if you see Singapore registered vehicles. This place is so famous that it draws customers from afar. It is just a simple place that offers delicious food at very reasonable prices. You might wonder how all of these restaurants survive when their signature item of this town is grilled fish. The truth is that each one of these restaurants have their own signature Grilled Fish recipe and that is how they keep everyone's business going. This place has a lovely view with Broga Hills dominating the scene. Grilling is done the conventional way whereby the fish is wrapped in aluminium foils and placed on these railings. The family running this farm restaurant is very friendly and if you have any clarification, they would be more than happy to assist.

Their menu is definitely limited in terms of variety. As I said, you won't get all that you get in city restaurants as they only sell their signature dishes. For us, this seemed more than enough as we were looking for something different. Besides fish, the also have saltwater prawns, mutton and a handful of vegetables.

Mixed Vegetables @ RM 12.00
This was one awesome dish that all of us fell in love with. It had a mix of Okra and Brinjals and it was steamed in some sauces. Despite it being a simple dish, it tasted so good. The vegetables were crispy and sweet and it was so addictive. My rating for this shall be 10/10.

Prawns With Rice Wine & Ginger @ RM 45.00
These are fresh salt water prawns and not those farmed ones. This Prawns with rice wine and ginger were awesome and they were very reasonably priced at RM 45.00 . The prawns were so sweet in taste and the mix of rice wine and ginger brought a lovely blend of flavours. An excellent one to try and I would rate this at 9/10. Compared to the Tomyam Prawns that we tried the last time, this one was better.

Teochew Style Fish with Spicy Soy Bean Paste @ RM 23.00
I have been here before and tried their other Signature Fish as well but for me, this Teochew Style was much better. This huge fish was grilled with Tauchu and  chilies and served with some Okra. If you're one who loves very spicy food, then go for their extra spicy, but please do note that it can be very spicy for some. In my opinion, this was just heavenly and we ended up literally scooping and drinking the base sauce once we were done with the fish. This definitely deserves a 10/10.

Dry Chilli Mutton @ RM 16.00
The last trip here, we tried their Curry Mutton and so this time, we decided to try another style of preparation and went for this Dry Chili Mutton. They were very generous with the ingredients and I loved the mutton. It was so tender, as if it was cooked using a pressure cooker and most of the fat had melted leaving only the lean meat. The blend of ingredients were great and we loved this dish. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Fancy dining in the farm with freshly caught seafood cooked according to their signature styles? Then this would be a fantastic place for you to visit. Despite being in Broga which is a 'Grilled Fish' heaven, it's not too far a drive from Kuala Lumpur. Prices are ridiculously cheap and the food is heavenly. If you have not been here yet, then it's totally worth the drive and experience. A place that I would highly recommend.
