Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti @ Kuala Selangor, Selangor

Having been in the mood for some seafood, we decided to do a day trip to Kuala Selangor. This fishing town does offer some very good Chinese seafood at very reasonable prices. Once you're in Kuala Selangor, just keep driving past the old town. Once you've crossed the large bridge that goes over the Selangor River, you'd see a turning on your left shortly ahead which leads into Pasir Penampang area. This fishing village has got so many restaurants to choose from. Most of them are not Halal certified but these two restaurants which are the famous ones, Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti and Riverside Restaurant are Halal certified. This afternoon, we visited Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti.

The Restaurant In Pasir Penampang Area
If you're coming here during the weekends or public holidays, parking can be a huge challenge. My advise would be to either come for an early lunch or a late lunch. Besides having some good seafood, you could also visit the shops here that sell sea produce at very reasonable prices, way cheaper than what you would get in the city. If you're looking for some activity to do after lunch, you could go on one of those eagle feeding tours, firefly sighting tours or even go up Melawati Hill which has so many historical attractions.

Mantau Bun @ RM 4.00

Sweet & Sour Crab (1 Kg) @ RM 90.00

Salted Egg Mantis Prawns @ RM 26.00
There were eight of us this afternoon and that being the case, we could order more dishes. The first one to arrive was the Mantau Bun and Sweet & Sour Crabs. The Mantau Bun was priced at RM 4.00 which I felt to be very cheap and the crabs were priced at RM 90.00 . Not to say the cheapest that I have come across in these seafood towns but it was still cheaper than the cities. I could have the same 1 Kg crabs at Sungai Besar for RM 56.00 . Anyway, the closer the seafood town is to the city, the higher the price that they charge. This is something that I have observed. Nevertheless, it was still worth it. I would rate the Mantau Bun's at 7/10 and the crabs at 8/10. The Salted Egg Mantis Prawns were nice too. They could have been a little more generous with the Salted Eggs, still it was okay taste wise. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 25.00

Nestum Prawns @ RM 36.00
The Deep Fried Squid was good. I felt that the portion was good too for the price and the squid itself was tasty. My rating for this shall be 8/10. The Nestum Prawns was again good but the best version of this dish that I have come across in these seafood towns would be the one that I had in Carey Island. Nevertheless, the prawns were fresh and the meat was sweet and tasty. The preparation was decent too and I would rate this dish at 8/10.

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 25.00

Teo Chew Style Steamed Ikan Merah @ RM 42.00
Their Kam Heong Style Clams were nice. The only setback would be the small clams used. It would have been better if they had used the larger ones. Ingredients wise, it was surely good. My rating for this shall be 7/10. Their Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish was decent. Not the best version that I had tasted, but it was still good. Again, 7/10 would be my rating for this.

Stir Fried Okra with Garlic @ RM 12.00

Stir Fried Broccoli with Garlic @ RM 14.00
Both the vegetables were good. Despite both being prepared the same style, both had a unique taste of it's own. We enjoyed both the dishes and my rating for these shall be 8/10. Prices were very reasonable too.

Our Bill For The Day
If you're in the mood for some seafood, then it is worth driving down to Kuala Selangor. With the new LATAR Highway, the journey has been shortened by half and besides the good food, there's so much more to see there as well. Although the prices are no longer as cheap as they once were, still it is worth the drive. Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti is definitely a restaurant that I would recommend.
