Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Restaurant Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun is a relatively new addition to Bandar Sri Damansara. Having started their business some time in May or June this year, they specialise in Chee Cheong Fun while having a number of variety of Chee Cheong Fun preparations from around the country. I first sighted this restaurant about two weeks back and made a mental note to come here. Being a Saturday, we decided to head here for dinner today.

Restaurant Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun in Bandar Sri Damansara

Interior of the Restaurant
This restaurant is located along the same row as the famous Restaurant Thai Base, which is the row of shops that is right behind RHB Bank in Bandar Sri Damansara. We were here at 6.45 pm for an early dinner and even then, there were already a number of tables that were occupied and by 7.15 pm, they were almost full house. The restaurant has a beautiful design and I really liked the decor. There is a bar styled station that is built in the center of the restaurant which is where all the food and drinks are prepared. Service here was a breeze and everyone seemed to be very efficient. As customers walked in, there was a gentleman who was greeting them and I supposed that that must be the owner of the restaurant.

The Menu
They had seven different variety of Chee Cheong Fun in their menu. Besides that, they also offered some Yong Tau Foo which also seemed like a favourite here as I did see a number of people ordering them. Their deserts also seemed good and they have a number of ABC's, Ais Kacang, Cendol and others. Ordering here is quite simple as all the dishes have a particular code number and an ordering chit is provided along with the menu. You would have to fill the code numbers in the chit and then hand them over to any one of the waitress.

Iced Longan Drink @ RM 5.30

Hot White Coffee @ RM 4.20
The plates and mugs used were very interesting. It used to be the ones that was commonly found in the 60's and 70's and I wonder where they got their supply of these utensils. Must be from Thailand as it is quite difficult to find them in Kuala Lumpur. Coming back to the drinks, we had a Iced Longan Drink and a Hot White Coffee. The Iced Longan was definitely nice and lightly sweetened. I would rate that drink at 9/10 . The Hot White Coffee was rather good. It tasted similar to what we find in Ipoh. I would rate their coffee at 9.5/10 .

Pork Ball 2 Pcs @ RM 3.40
This dish was just so so. Nothing great about it and their Pork Balls too were just above average. The soup was flat and did not emanate any flavours. On the whole, this dish was something that I regretted ordering. I would rate this dish at 4/10 .

Curry Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 5.20
This dish was very good, in fact one of the best that I have tried. The curry had great flavour to it and had very minimal oil. The portion size was also fairly good for the price paid. I would rate this dish at a perfect 10/10 .

Spicy Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.50
Though it looks quite similar to the normal Chee Cheong Fun, this dish varies in taste as it is quite spicy and hence the name Spicy Chee Cheong Fun. It is made spicy by just not adding more chili paste to it but the sauce itself is rather made differently and the colour is still brownish like the sweet sauce, except that it's spicy instead of being sweet. A unique preparation I must say and the dish was really excellent. Once again, I would rate it a perfect 10/10 .

Chicken Glutinous Rice @ RM 4.80
The above dish was another one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Unlike other places which only adds Chicken, here you are able to find a few slices of Chinese Sausages also added to it. Taste wise, it was very good and I have never seen this dish prepared with so little oil. This literally seemed to make Loh Mai Kai almost an oil free dish. Excellent preparation and it deserves a rating of 10/10 .

Peanut Butter Toast @ RM 5.80
We finally had the above toast for desert instead of those ice'd preparations as I was down with a flu. This again was very well prepared and it had a thick layer of peanut butter inside. Very well prepared and once again sweeps a rating of 10/10 .

On the whole, except for the Pork Balls dish, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and I find all their dishes to be excellent so much so, almost everything that I tried scored a perfect score from me. Their service is efficient, food is excellent and the price is very reasonable and what more would I want from a restaurant. I would definitely return here again to try their Yong Tau Foo. Definitely a highly recommended restaurant.
