Restaurant D Maduras @ Batu Caves, Selangor

I was here at this restaurant just last week and was thoroughly impressed with their Thaali Sets. Today, since it was a weekend, decided on coming here again. To give a brief background on this restaurant, this restaurant has been opened in the recent months here in Taman Sunway Batu Caves. Previously it was a family venture for many years, going by the name Restaurant Maduras in Sri Gombak. I heard that the brother's have split and that restaurant closed. With that, the youngest of them all, opened this restaurant here. If you drive along the middle ring road heading towards Sri Gombak, just after the Batu Caves Temple and the Ayyappa Temple, you would notice this restaurant on your left. This is directly opposite the Giant Hypermarket in Batu Caves.

Even while heading here, I was skeptical if there would be much food available at this time as it was already 4.30 pm when we reached here, and yes, it was a late lunch. Just as I worried, most of the dishes were already sold out. Well, when the food is good, it is no brainer that the food gets sold out fast, what more since it was a weekend. Sadly, I could not have their Thaali Meals today as that was really good as it came with loads of sides for only RM 6.00 . Since we didn't have much of a choice, we went for their individual dishes with plain rice.

Plain White Rice @ RM 1.50
We both went for just a platter of White Rice which was priced at RM 1.50 each. I was told that if you go for the same with an addition of three vegetables on the sides, then it is priced at RM 3.50 . We were okay to go for just the above.

Spicy Chicken Perattal @ RM 5.00
Their Mutton too had been sold out and all there was left, was a few variety of chicken and we went for the Chicken Perattal above. Just like the last week, the Chicken Perattal's taste was consistent. I would once again say that this is one of the best Chicken Perattal's that I have tried in restaurants. The taste was just awesome and the portion was decent. I would rate this at 9.8/10 .

Kerang Sambal @ RM 3.50
We also took a helping of the Kerang Sambal which you see above. This was cooked more like Rendang and tasted slightly sweet and spicy, very much like the Malay style of preparation. Nevertheless, it was a good dish. The portions were lavish too and for the price, definitely a dish worth taking. I would rate their Kerang Sambal at 8.5/10 .

Vegetarian Chiclen Perattal (Soy Meal) @ RM 3.50
We also had a helping of the above Vegetarian Chicken Perattal which is pretty much made of Soy. Unlike other restaurants which charge a premium for these dishes, here this was charged at a minimal rate of RM 3.50 which I felt was very reasonable, if not cheap. The taste was good and it was spiced exactly like the other Chicken Perattal which we had tried earlier. Definitely a recommended dish here and I would rate this at 8.6/10 .

Chicken Gravy
As for the gravy, we went for their Chicken Gravy and they were not stingy when it came to topping this up and it was provided complimentary. Their Chicken Gravy once again was very good, thick , aromatic and perfectly spiced. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Rasam
Their Rasam was provided complimentary and it was wonderfully flavoured and it was nice though I would not say that this was outstanding or anywhere near the best Rasam's in town that I have tried. Nevertheless, it was still a good preparation and I would rate this at 8.3/10 .

Despite the fact that we had minimal options to choose from today, the food was still satisfying and I returned a happy man. As always, the prices here are very reasonable and the food has been consistently good. Definitely a place that I would highly recommend!
