Having had no Chinese Vegetarian restaurants right from Tapah up to Rawang for more than 10 years now, it was a delight to know that a new place had opened up in Bukit Beruntung. This place started it's business sometime in the middle of 2014 and ever since, has been surely picking up in terms of business. Having discovered this place this afternoon from their Facebook page, immediately I gave them a ring to check on the locations and to ensure that they were open for the night. Having established those details, my Dad and I set out driving to Bukit Beruntung to try the place out.

Operating Hours and Special Closure Details |
Being familiar with Bukit Beruntung, it was not difficult for me to find the place. Assuming that one is coming from the North South Highway, exit at the Bukit Beruntung interchange and head towards the Toll Plaza. Once cleared the toll, keep going straight until you come to the traffic lights. At this lights, turn right. Keep going straight again till you come to another set of lights. This is merely 500 meters from the earlier lights and you would be seeing a row of shops on your right. At this traffic lights, turn right. Once turned in, there would be an Indian Muslim Restaurant on your left. This would be the row of shops that is facing the inside. Just at this spot, turn right again and you would be able to see this restaurant. In short, exit the toll. First lights, turn right. Second lights, turn right. Go straight till the second block facing inside. Here, turn right again and you would be at this restaurant. Business hours are from 1130 till 1430 and again from 1800 till 2130. They are closed on Mondays, except if that Monday falls on the 1st or 15th day of the Lunar Calendar. From April 2015 onwards, their off days shall be changed to Saturdays instead. Best to check their Facebook page to be on the safe side. Further details on the opening hours are captured in the above photograph. Parking was not an issue as the place had an abundance of bays. This is a newly developed area in Bukit Beruntung called Adenium Business Centre.

Us Checking Out The Menu |
|
Nice Air Conditioned Environment |
The staffs whom I believe were the owners themselves were very attentive to customers. The moment we walked in, we were greeted and then one of them handed us two sets of the menu. Having taken our place at one of the tables, we started going through the menu. The restaurant was air-conditioned and the place was very clean with some very light Buddhist chants playing in the background. A totally soothing and relaxed environment it was.

Chit To Fill In The Orders |
They had an extensive menu covering a number of stand alone dishes like Fried Rice, Prawn Mee, Laksa etc., some 'Set' items along with the usual dishes. These stand alone food items are available all day long but those dishes are specifically available for dinner only. I was also informed that during the day, they have an array of vegetarian mixed rice items which is a fast seller. Here, all the food items comes with a code number and once decided, we would need to fill them in the chit provided and then hand it back to the one waiting the tables. After having gone through the menu a couple of times, we then filled in our orders in the chit provided and handed it over to one of the waitress. She then went through the items, confirmed the orders with us, and then proceeded to the kitchen. It is an excellent practice to double confirm the items before heading to the kitchen as this clears any kind of mis-communication that may arise later. The prices were all displayed in the menu and for me, I found them to be very much reasonable compared to those Chinese Vegetarian restaurants that are found in places like Kuala Lumpur. With our orders settled, we then waited for the dishes to arrive.

Chinese Tea @ RM 0.50 |
|
Asam Boi @ RM 2.50 |
In a matter of minutes, our drinks arrived along with two set's of cutlery. My Dad ordered a glass of Chinese Tea and this was priced at 50 cents per glass. The Tea was good and not one of those diluted versions that some restaurants serve. I ordered a glass of Asam Boi and this was served in a tall glass with limited amounts of ice. The drink came with one full lime cut in two halves, and yes....that's one full lime and some sour plums. The drink was fixed just perfect. One of those good Asam Boi drinks that comes very rarely these days. Excellent preparation and I would rate this at 9.5/10 . For the price, the quality was definitely up to the mark and I just loved it. One that I would strongly recommend.

Soon Tet Signature Bagus Tea Set @ RM 7.00 |
This is one of their signature dishes and as the name may be somewhat quite complicating, it is actually the vegetarian version of the famous Bak Kut Teh. This comes with some White Rice, Herbal Tea along with some ingredients and a small bowl of You Tiau. Some may also refer to this You Tiau as Yau Char Kui. The portions were good and for the price of RM 7.00 , they were definitely justified if not cheap.

Vegetarian Version of the Meat Cuts and Intestines |
The Soon Tet Tea was amazing and it was very close to the original version. I liked the fact that they had used fresh Salads and the rest of the ingredients were very tasty. Besides, they had as much as possible, tried to match the original one not only in taste, but also the look and feel. An amazing dish that tasted delicious. For a moment it made me feel as if I was having the real Bak Kut Teh and the broth was just perfect. I would rate this at 9.8/10 . Excellent!

Fresh and Crispy You Tiau |
|
Fresh and Crispy You Tiau |
The You Tiau (a.k.a. Yau Char Kui) were fresh, crispy and not at all greasy. One of those good ones that blended so well with the broth. It was a delight dipping this into the broth as well as having it on it's own. Another perfectly prepared dish and I would rate this at 9.5/10 .
I am truly amazed with this set. They were all so wonderfully crafted....and yes, crafted is the right word and a true delight for vegetarians who would love to get a glimpse of what the real Bak Kut Teh tastes like...and this is as close as possible that one could ever get to. I am yet to try one that does it better.

Vegetarian Prawn Mee @ RM 6.00 |

Vegetarian Prawn Mee @ RM 6.00 |

Vegetarian Prawn Mee @ RM 6.00 |
Being a Prawn Mee fan, my Dad went for their Vegetarian Prawn Mee which was priced at RM 6.00 per bowl. For this dish, we could choose the noodle combination that we would like to have at no additional costs and we went for the Mee Hoon / Mee combination. This too looked exactly like the original. I like the fact that they had attempted to imitate the original as much as possible, both in terms of look and feel as well as the taste. The broth tasted very good and had a mild sting to it, just the way it should be. The vegetarian Fish Paste, Shrimps etc. too were quite good and as a whole, I would say that this was the best Vegetarian Prawn Mee which we have tasted. It tasted almost similar to the original non vegetarian version and it tasted amazingly good. For the price of RM 6.00 , this was an amazing dish and one that I would recommend to any Prawn Mee lover. I would rate this dish at 9.7/10 . Excellent!

Vegetarian Mock Char Siew |
|
Vegetarian Mock Char Siew |
Though we did not order the above dish, the Management were very kind to provide us the Vegetarian Char Siew dish as a sampler and this was on the house. Well, the portion did not look like a sampler to me as it seemed as if it was a real serving and a big Thank You to the Management for being kind to us. Coming back to this dish, it was simply fantastic. Would not be wrong to say that it was simply out of this world. After having had a bite, I did have a thought if this was really mock meat as it tasted heavenly. This was way better than most of the real Char Siew that is sold out there. The mock meat was succulent and the sauce was amazingly good. The sauce was the key ingredient that carried this dish to the level that it was. Definitely the best vegetarian Char Siew that I have tasted! I would rate this at 10/10. It deserves just that perfect scoring. A heavenly dish!

Us Enjoying Our Dinner |
On the whole, we were very happy with the food here. The dishes were amazingly good, the prices were very reasonable, the service excellent and all of them served with a smile on their face. The premise too was very clean, cosy and comfortable. What more can one ask for in a restaurant. A place that I will recommend anytime! One of the best Chinese Vegetarian Restaurants with a very humble set up! Love this place and would return for more soon.
