Gerai Juita is one of those stalls in Tanjung Malim that has been around for more than two decades now, having been shifting their stall to a number of places due to the so called improvisations by the Town Council till they finally got settled here at the Medan Selera a couple of years ago. Those days, I used to drop by often but ever since they moved to this food court, today was my very first trip here.

A Typical Food Court |

Quite A Hot Afternoon |
|
The Menu |
At this food court, they occupy stalls number fifteen and sixteen. Stall fifteen is dedicated to the food section and stall sixteen is for the drinks. In fact, they are the only operator who occupies two stalls here. This food court is located opposite the Police Station, where the old children's playground used to be. The place is simple, a typical no frills Malaysian style food court. This is one of those stalls that is mostly crowded throughout their operation hours. This stall starts for business at 8 am and this goes on till approximately 7 pm. I was here late afternoon, sometime around 5.30 pm and still, the place was buzzing with customers. Well, ordering is simple here. All their dishes are listed on a mega huge menu which is hung above the signage at the entrance to the stall. The prices are also listed there. Though their prices are quite reasonable, the portions are generally medium sized. For example, if I am really hungry, I could do two to three dishes at one go but of course, I agree that I am a huge eater with a big appetite and not everyone would be able to do the same. Perhaps for those light eaters, the portion would be just nice. There is a guy, in fact two guys that are constantly walking around attending to customers and taking the orders. Service is quick and one can expect to have their dishes being served in less than 10 minutes from the time of order, and this applies even when there is a huge crowd.

Teh O @ RM 1.30 |
Their Teh O is decent. I would not say that it was great as this is the standard quality in most restaurants. I would rate this at 8/10 . You would be able to see a lot of sugar at the base of the glass. I for one, would not stir it as I prefer my drinks to be not too sweet. If one prefers it to be sweeter, than all you have to do is to stir it when it is hot or ask me more sugar.

Mee Bandung @ RM 3.50 |
Mee Bandung is one of the best sellers here. The Mee Bandung is priced at RM 3.50 but as you can see, the portion is not that huge, perhaps just nice for most people. This dish comes in a choice of Mee or Mee Hoon and is served with sliced Tofu, Fish Paste, some diced Chicken, an egg and is served in a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. Together, it is such a delicious dish. One that Mee Bandung fans would definitely enjoy and so did I. Definitely one of the best in town and I would rate this at 9/10 .

Nasi Ikan Bilis @ RM 3.00 |

Good Portion of White Rice |

Mildly Spicy Sambal Ikan Bilis |

An Omelette |

Sour Tasting Clear Soup |
Another top seller here is their Nasi Ikan Bilis. This is a dish that comes with some White Rice, Ikan Bilis Sambal, an Omelette and some Sour Clear Soup. All this, for the price of RM 3.00 only. Definitely a dish that is very much worth the price. This dish tasted absolutely good. The Ikan Bilis was fried and added to some mildly spicy Sambal, thus retaining the salty taste of the Anchovies. This, when blended with the rice, tasted so delicious. The Omelette too was not plain, there were diced Onions and Chilies that were added to it thus making it taste greater. The clear soup too tasted very unique. Not the usual variety that we get. This was sour but tasted good and complimented the rice and Anchovies Sambal very well. Being an Ikan Bilis fan, I just loved this dish! I would rate this at 9.5/10 . A simple, unique and tasty preparation. Highly recommended!

Lai Chi Kang @ RM 2.00 |
Finally, since it was a hot afternoon, I decided to call it a closure with their famous Lai Chi Kang. This was the main reason that I used to visit them those days. Their Lai Chi Kang was still as good as it was and it was priced at a very reasonable RM 2.00 . This came with an assortment of coloured Jellies, Grass Jelly, Barley, Lychee, sliced Nutmeg, Ice Cubes and served in a heavy Lychee Syrup. A perfect antidote to the hot weather, one that is instantly refreshing. A must try if you happen to be in town and I would rate this at 9.6/10 .
Over the years, I am glad that the food here has not deteriorated even a bit and is still as good as it was. I had a hearty meal this afternoon and for all that I had, it was less than RM 10.00 . A gem of a place that definitely deserves some mention. I doubt if such a place still exists in Kuala Lumpur that gives so much value for a RM 10 bank note. A place that I would very much recommend!
