As many of you may already know, Wantan Mee is one of my favourite dishes and I am always on the lookout for new places that are famous for this dish. While browsing the internet, I came across Restoran Soon Hing BBQ which apparently does some good Wantan Mee and Char Siew. Having been a fan of both dishes, I decided to drop by this afternoon.
The Restaurant Located In Bandar Puteri Puchong |
This restaurant is located along the busy street of Jalan Puteri 2/4 in Bandar Puteri Puchong. Parking is always a hassle here but if you're willing to walk, then you should be able to find a bay not too far from the restaurant.
They have a very good variety on their menu and apparently their Siew Yuk and Roasted Duck is pretty famous too. We were here at around 2.00 pm and by then, those two items were already sold out. So, in order to get to try all their top sellers, my recommendation would be to come early for breakfast. Once the orders are placed and the last dish has been served, it is their practice to demand for the payment. They do not wait for you to finish your meal and only then pay. For those who may get offended by this, I'm just letting you know here before hand so that you do not take it too seriously. In fact, there are signs on the wall that say the same.
Iced Sea Coconut @ RM 3.70 |
Char Siew @ RM 13.00 |
Their waiters kept on recommending their Sea Coconut drink and we decided to go for it. It was definitely good but I have tasted better ones as well. My rating for it shall be 7/10. Their Char Siew on the other hand was really good. It had a mix of lean meat and a little bit of fat and that greasy combination was just awesome. 9/10 would be my rating for this.
Wantan Mee with Minced Pork @ RM 6.90 |
Chili |
Their Wantan Mee was truly the best that I have tasted in the Klang Valley. Compared to all the other guys that claim to have been around for more than a century, this one was totally a class of it's own. The egg noodles were so soft and springy and the overall dish was heavenly. Truly a good plate of Wantan Mee and this definitely deserves a rating of 9/10.
Fuzhou Fishballs |
Dumplings |
We had ordered two plates of Wantan Mee, one with the standard Wanton Dumplings on the sides and another with Fuzhou Fish Balls. Both were priced at RM 6.90 . The Fuzhou Fish Balls had some stuffed meat in it and it was pretty good. Similarly, the Wantons were good as well. Even the clear soup had a balanced flavour. I would definitely rate both at 8/10.
Loh Mai Kai @ RM 5.00 |
Yue Chi Mai @ RM 5.50 |
Even their Loh Mai Kai was very tasty. What I liked most about this dish was the very minimal use of oil and even then, it was so delicious. They were quite generous with the meat as well. Overall, this is a Loh Mai Kai that is pretty good and I would boldly say that it was way better than most Loh Mai Kai's out there. My rating for this shall be 9/10. Besides noodles and roasted meats, they also have some Dim Sum as well and we ordered a basket of Yue Chi Mai. This again was another excellent preparation. The skin was firm yet delicately smooth and the filling was absolutely heavenly. Another preparation that deserves 9/10.
Though we have many restaurants in the Klang Valley that boast about their Wantan Mee, the preparation at Soon Hing BBQ was way better than the rest that I have tasted. In fact, even their Roasted Meats, Loh Mai Kai as well as their Dim Sum variety were good. My only advise is to go early as they get sold out pretty fast. A highly recommended restaurant!
