Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert @ IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

After a long time, we decided to go for some mall food instead of the local street food that I would usually blog about. For a change, we decided to visit IOI City Mall and try this Hong Kong restaurant that specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert is one that needs no introduction. They are widely spread across Singapore and have a relatively good market presence in Malaysia too. Despite having been around for a number of years and in a number of malls, I have never tried the food there. That being the case, we decided to have dinner here.

The Restaurant Located On The Lower Ground Level Of IOI City Mall

Lovely Decoration
It was a rather early dinner for us and that being the case, the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. But once it crossed 7 pm, customers started coming in. This restaurant is located on the Lower Ground Floor of IOI City Mall and it must be one of those few non Halal restaurants to be in opened in this mall.

The above are just two pages from their menu. Their full menu was quite extensive and they had a good range of Cantonese dishes to choose from. Prices were the usual mall prices and I definitely would not complain about that. Ordering was a breeze and I found their service levels to be decent.

Hong Kong Style Milk Coffee @ RM 4.50

Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles @ RM 16.90
Their Hong Kong Style Coffee was as expected. It had a deep bodied taste and slightly on the bitter sweet side. Definitely not suitable for those who do not like much sugar in their drinks. However, this is how it is in Hong Kong and in that sense, it was quite authentic. RM 4.50 for this seemed reasonable and my rating for this drink shall be 9/10. Their Crisp Fried Marinated Pork Chop Noodles were quite good too. The usual Egg Noodles served in soy sauce and topped with some crisp Pork Chops. Portions were good and the Egg Noodles were so soft and silky. Very authentic taste as well and for those who are only used to the Malaysian style of Wan Tan Mee, then this would be something quite different as the sauces are on the light side and most of the flavours are derived from the hot springy Egg Noodles. The Pork Chops were decent too. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10.

SK Signature Combination Noodles @ RM 17.90

Both Noodles Comes With A Bowl Of Clear Soup
Their SK Signature Combination Noodles was the same variety of dry Egg Noodles served with sauces but this came with a generous amount of Pork Dumplings and some Char Siew and it was priced a Ringgit more. The flavours of the overall dish was equally good as the earlier one. Their Char Siew was decent and their Pork Dumplings were excellent. Very juicy and delicious it was. My rating for this dish shall be 8/10 as well. Both noodle dishes came with a small bowl of clear soup and this soup was good. Balanced flavours and went well with the mains. 7/10 shall be my rating for this soup.

Hong Kong Siew Mai @ RM 7.90

Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean @ RM 7.90
We also tried two Dim Sum varieties and they were the Spare Ribs with Yam & Black Bean and the other was a tray of Siew Mai. Both were good and I specifically enjoyed the previous more that the latter. I would rate their Siew Mai at 7/10 and their Spare Ribs at 9/10.

Our Bill
If you're looking for a good place to have Cantonese dishes inside shopping malls, you might want to check out Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desert. We tried some of their Noodles as well as a few Dim Sum varieties this evening and found the food to be quite good. Standard mall prices apply but it's definitely worth it.
