Restoran Tai Yau Big Mouth Hokkien Mee @ Seri Kembangan, Selangor

Kampung Baru Seri Kembangan has got so much food options and that is one place that I have been progressively visiting over the last few weeks. In the coming weeks, I shall be sharing more and more food from this locality. To start with, we visited this restaurant that is known to the locals as Restoran Big Mouth Hokkien Mee. 

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan SK 7/12

Located Right Opposite The Huge Hardware Store

There is no location that you could use on Waze to come directly to this restaurant. The best option would be to use the street name and the moment that you turn in, you would find this restaurant on your right. Parking can be a challenge in the evenings but if you keep going straight, you would definitely be a able to find a place to park. This restaurant is open from 5 pm to 10 pm daily. There is no signboard carrying the name of this restaurant. All that you would be able to find would a lit up signboard with a large Steamed Bonito Fish photograph. 

Hokkien Mee @ RM 8.00

Bak Kut Teh (1 pax) @ RM 15.00

This restaurant is famous for these three dishes and they are Hokkien Mee, Bak Kut Teh and their Steamed Bonito Fish Head. Having come quite a distance, we decided to try them all. The first dish to arrive was their Hokkien Mee and this was priced at RM 8.00 per pax. Compared to the other Hokkien Mee places, the portions here were a little smaller and the noodles was much thicker. Not too soggy but it does not come with lard and the latter I felt was a setback. We always look for a lot of lard in our Hokkien Mee. Taste wise, I would say that it was just okay. Nothing to shout about as I have eaten much better Hokkien Char Mee. My rating for this dish shall be 6/10. The next dish that we tried was their Bak But Teh. This was nice, in fact their medium bodied tea was one that I enjoyed. The meat cuts however seemed to be a little old as they were no longer firm. Still, one worth trying and my rating for this shall be 8/10. 

Steamed Bonito Fish Head @ RM 30.00

Their Steamed Bonito Fish Head was really huge and for RM 30.00 , it was definitely very cheap. However, taste wise, it was not up to my expectations. I felt that the broth was rather bland and did not give the desired impact. I am very used to this dish, so I am familiar with how it should taste. As a total dish, it was definitely cheap but taste wise, it just wasn't there and my rating for this shall be 5/10. 

Restoran Tai Yau Big Mouth Hokkien Mee has three signature dishes and they are their Hokkien Mee, Steamed Bonito Fish Head and Bak Kut Teh. Their prices are generally quite reasonable but don't go with high expectations. For me, their Hokkien Mee was just okay, Bak Kut Teh was good but unfortunately their Steamed Bonito Fish Head was not up to my expectations.
