Kafe Recco Coffee is a newly opened cafe in Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim. I came here with a friend two days back but during that visit, we only had coffee. Having seen their menu, I decided to drop in for dinner to try out their Western food.

Halal Certification in Progress |
Being a cafe and carrying the word 'coffee' on their name, this cafe specialises in a variety of coffees'. Their coffee machines were all the imported ones and from what I tried a couple of days ago, they seemed pretty good. As this locality i.e. Taman Universiti has a huge Muslim population, the owners who are a Chinese couple have applied for the Halal certification and from what I know today, as this post is blogged at a later date, that has been approved and now they are a Halal cafe.

Indoor Seating Area |
This cafe has a small outdoor seating area and a large indoor seating area. What I like about this place is the decoration. The place has the right lighting to give you a relaxed feeling with cosy sofa like seats that is conducive for discussions. For diners, there also a few tables available. The only setback here is that they usually switch off the air conditioners and run on just a single air cond unless it is full house. So if you're there when there isn't much diners, it can be quite hot.

The Menu |
The menu has a decent spread of Western dishes, all reasonably priced. The waiters and cooks are all Malay's from the town and it is great that they are being given this opportunity to be exposed to such operations. Ordering was a breeze and I had no issues with the waiter. They perfectly understood what I wanted and attended to it immediately.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.50 |
The Coke here is served from the can and not the 1.5L bottles which is good. For the decoration and ambiance, RM 2.50 is indeed a decent price.

Lemon Tea @ RM 4.00 |

Lemon Tea @ RM 4.00 |
Their Lemon Tea was very good, in fact I ordered the same during my last visit and wanted to see if it was consistent, and indeed it was. The tea was thick and had two thick slices of lemon cuts in it and the infusion was just fantastic. I would rate this drink at 9.3/10 .

They also had a variety of cakes which were available. If the owners do read this blog, please take note of this. There was no description on the cake type at the display shelf and when I asked the waiters what cake it was, none of them could tell me and they all gave a blur look. That's not good. They should be able to tell customers what cake it is, or else, place a small description beside the cake. That being the case, I decided not to try any of the cakes.

Grilled Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce @ RM 13.90 |
I ordered the above Grilled Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce. For the price, the portion was quite decent. I shall rate the items individually below.
|
Grilled Chicken Chop |
The Chicken was nice done over the grill. It was very soft, tender and juicy. There was not much marination on the chicken as they expect the sauces to fill in the gap. For the chicken, I would rate this at 8.5/10 .
|
Mushroom Sauce |
The Mushroom Sauce tasted very bland. In fact, it was almost tasteless. I had to eventually use chili sauce with the chicken and that saved the dish. I would rate this sauce at 2/10 .
|
Fries |
The Fries were good. They were fried to the right level and were lightly salted. I would rate this at 8.3/10 .
|
Salad |
The Salad was nothing but a simple preparation with mayonnaise. It was just average to me. I would rate this at 6/10 .
|
Grilled Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce @ RM 13.90 |
|
Black Pepper Sauce |
This dish too had all same same items as above, the only variation would be the Black Pepper sauce instead of the Mushroom Sauce. The Black Pepper sauce was much better when compared to the earlier one. Definitely had better flavours, but still it wasn't all that great. I would rate this sauce at 6.5/10 .
Overall, the drinks were fantastic and it is the same for the coffee that I tried few days ago. The food would have been good if not for the substandard sauces. The chicken was very nicely prepared but sad that the sauce killed the dish. Otherwise, it would have been much better. I would definitely return for their coffee and ambiance but likely not for their food.
