Restoran D Maduras @ Batu Caves, Selangor

Restoran D Maduras is one of my favourite restaurants. I particularly love their Thali Meals that is served during lunch hours. This restaurant is located in Taman Sunway Batu Caves, just a few doors away from the Batu Caves Temple and one turning before Taman Industri Bolton.

Restoran D Maduras Located In Taman Sunway Batu Caves

Coffee Tarik
This is the first time that we are coming here for breakfast. We are on a road trip heading towards Kuantan and since it's quite a distance away before we are able to get some decent meals, we decided to drop by for breakfast. Surprisingly, it was full hours. I had always been thinking that this restaurant is only famous for lunch and I had least expected them to be this popular for breakfast. There was so much to choose from. Even for a simple Mee Hoon dish, there were a few varieties and that's something impressive. In fact, we had to wait close to ten minutes before being able to find a place to sit. Finally after getting a table, we placed our orders. I had ordered the above Coffee and it was quite good. Perfect flavours and it was not too sweet. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Mee Hoon & Ulunthu Vadai with Coconut Chutney

Thosai,  Sambar, Coconut Chutney & Ulunthu Vadai
We took a variety of items and they were all reasonably priced. Their Fried Mee Hoon was good. This was the spicy version that we had taken and it was really nice. My rating for it shall be 8/10. Their Ulunthu Vadai was excellent too. Almost similar to the one's that you get in India and it surely deserves a rating of 8/10. Their Coconut Chutney had some room for improvement as I felt that it lacked spices. This I would rate at 6/10. Their Sambar was impressive as always and my rating for it shall be 8/10.

Despite being a restaurant that is famous for their Thali Meals, D Maduras also has a very good crowd for breakfast. Lot's of choices in terms of variety and their prices are reasonable. My only complaint would be that their service levels can be a little disorganised during peak hours. Otherwise, it's a lovely restaurant to patronise.

Kafe Le Cheval Blanc Coffee & Bakery @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

Kafe Le Cheval Blanc is a relatively new French bakery that is located in Centrus Mall, Cyberjaya. In fact, it is the very first retail outlet to be open here. For those who are not sure as to where Centrus Mall is, it is right behind D Pulze Mall facing CBD 2.

The Cafe Located In Centrus Mall

Iced Caramel Machiato @ RM 12.80
I visited them on their second day of opening but due to work commitments, I have not been able to blog about them much earlier. Anyway, that's not too far ago and is somewhat approximately about a month back. The entire set up was very impressive and they have both indoor and outdoor seating areas. A variety of coffee and tea were available and I was recommended to try their Iced Caramel Machiato which was priced at RM 12.80 . This is a self service bakery. So, you would need to pick up your choice of bread and come up to the counter, place your orders for the drinks and pay for them. For the concept, I felt that this system was quite apt. As for the Iced Caramel Machiato, I felt that it was perfectly fixed and the balance of ice as opposed to the drink was just right. My rating for this drink shall be 9/10.

Mini Pizza @ RM 3.50

Sweet Cheese Roll @ RM 3.50
Since it was only their second day of opening, there was not much in terms of variety. I totally understand this. Most people are still not aware of their existence and why bake so much and waste. The quantity that they had was just nice for the crowd that they were getting. I am sure as more people are aware of this cafe, the variety would be increased. I went for two different buns, Mini Pizza and Sweet Cheese Roll and both were reasonably priced at RM 3.50 . Both buns were good. They were soft, fluffy and taste wise too, both were amazing. Again, for both the buns that I had tasted, my rating shall be 8/10.

Bill
For good buns and coffee in Cyberjaya, I would recommend Kafe Le Cheval Blanc that is located in Centrus Mall, CBD 3. This is the first outlet to open in Centrus Mall and I am very happy with the quality of food and service levels. Wonderful ambiance as well. Good for meetings as well as casual conversations. A highly recommended French Bakery!

Chicken Rice Stall Along Jalan 51A/223 @ Petaling Jaya, Selangor

I happened to visit a client of mine this afternoon who is located along Jalan 51A/223 and I discovered that there is this new Chicken Rice stall that had just opened up in recent months. Being a curious foodie, I decided to check them out.

Located Next To The Old KFC Building

The Signage Outside The Building

Just A Humble Stall With Some Outdoor Tables Under A Tent
This stall is located in the building which is next to the old KFC Holdings office. It is just a humble set up with some outdoor tables under a tent. There is a small signage hanging outside the building that informs customers about the recent opening of this stall.

My Lunch @ RM 7.50
They had Roasted Chicken, Char Siew and Siew Yuk. I was curious to try all three meats and went for a little of each. As a set, it was priced at RM 7.50 which I felt to be quite reasonable. Do note that this is a self service stall, so you would need to place your orders, pay for them and bring your dishes with you to the seating area. Well, there was just two guys manning this stall and for the crowd that they had, you can't be expecting them to provide table service to all.

Rice with some Gravy

Roasted Chicken
The rice was nice, not to say the best that I have tried but it was of reasonably good quality. The expected tasted was there and I would say that the gravy was good too. My rating for their Rice shall be 8/10. Their Roasted Chicken however wasn't that great. I enjoyed the crispy skin but the meat itself could have been a little more moist and juicy. My rating for this shall be 6/10.

Char Siew

Siew Yoke

Chili Paste
Their Char Siew and Siew Yoke were up to my expectations. In fact, I enjoyed these more than the Roasted Chicken. My rating for these meats would be 8/10. Similarly, the Chili Paste provided was very good. It had that blend of sourness as well as a spicy aftertaste. Again, 8/10 for this.

If you happen to be along Jalan 51A/223 and want to try a new place for lunch, you might want to check out this new Chicken Rice stall that is located right beside the old KFC Holdings office. His preparation is quite decent and I specifically enjoyed his Char Siew and Siew Yuk. Reasonable prices too and worth giving a try.

Gerai Nasi Lemak Malam Taman Sri Langat @ Kajang, Selangor

This evening, I visited Taman Sri Langat to go to my usual Indian barber and I noticed this small stall that is open beside a Chinese Grocery Shop. In fact, it was right below this particular massage parlour that you can see from the photograph below. From my observation, they were selling the usual Street Burger as well as a variety of Nasi Lemak Bungkus. Being a fan of the latter, I decided on checking the place out.

The Stall Beside The Chinese Grocer
It is not too difficult to locate this stall. They are located directly opposite the famous Bak Kut Teh restaurant. Business starts at around 5 pm and goes on till midnight. They might close earlier unless their Nasi Lemak sells out.

Teh Tarik @ RM 1.50

A Variety of Nasi Lemak Bungkus @ RM 1.50 each
I ordered a glass of Teh Tarik and it was sent over in a matter of minutes. My rating for this drink shall be 7/10. Nothing great to shout about. In front of me, there was a platter with a variety of Nasi Lemak Bungkus. I was assuming that they would have the usual Nasi Lemak Sambal Ikan Bilis only but to my surprise, they also had Nasi Lemak Sambal Kerang and Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong.

Nasi Lemak Sambal Ikan Bilis

Nasi Lemak Sambal Kerang
I had a heavy lunch otherwise I would have tried all three varieties that they had to offer. Both their Nasi Lemak Ikan Bilis as well as their Nasi Lemak Sambal Kerang were awesome. The Sambal was spicy and the rice was delicious and it had a lovely fragrance. For the price and taste, I would definitely recommend this stall. My rating for both the versions that I had tasted would be 8/10. I am definitely coming back to try their Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong as well.

Restoran I Love Hokkien Mee @ Puchong, Selangor

If you're a fan of Hokkien Mee, I would recommend visiting this restaurant that is located in Bandar Puchong Jaya. This place seems to have been in business for a while now but it was only recently that I discovered this restaurant.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan Kenari 11
Unlike most Hokkien Mee restaurants, this restaurant is open from 12.30 pm till 12.30 am daily. It was a late night when we were looking for a place to have dinner after a movie and it was then that we came across this restaurant. It may be slightly hidden but if you look for Thai Odyssey, then you can't go wrong as this restaurant is located directly opposite them.

The Menu

The Menu

Dried Shrimp Chili Paste
Their menu had all the standard variety that you would get in a Hokkien Mee restaurant and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. It is also a good thing that most of the food items on the menu comes with photographs. This would be of great help to those who are not so familiar with this cuisine. One thing that I really enjoyed here is their Dried Shrimp Chili Paste. It is a must have when you go for their Hokkien Mee. Not too overpowering and the flavours were well balanced. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Fried Kuey Teow with Egg @ RM 9.90

Deep Fried Pork Belly
Their version of the Moonlight Char Kuey Teow was nice, may not be the best that I have tasted but it was still good. Sufficiently moisture and the portions were huge. My rating for that dish shall be 8/10. However, their Deep Fried Pork Belly was excellent. Despite being deep fried, it was absolutely not greasy, so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I would definitely recommend this to all Pork lovers. My rating for this shall be 9/10.

Hokkien Mee @ RM 8.90

Loh Mee @ RM 8.90
Their Hokkien Mee was another generous platter that came with lots of ingredients and fried lard. The overall preparation is slightly on the moist side but that extra serving of sauces gave it a good boost of taste. Similarly, their Loh Mee was also very good. Both these dishes deserve a rating of 9/10.

Another good place in Puchong for Hokkien Mee, Loh Mee and Moonlight Char Kuey Teow that I would recommend would be Restoran I Love Hokkien Mee. Their preparation is really good and the prices are reasonable. Excellent customer service as well.

Restoran Delhi Grill @ Cyberjaya, Selangor

One of the latest North Indian Restaurants to open in Cyberjaya is Delhi Grill. This restaurant is located right above Value Bazaar in Glomac Cyberjaya area.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan GC3
This restaurant belongs to the same owners of Value Bazaar and I think they have replicated this concept in a number of places. Their menu is quite an extensive one and it covers both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian dishes. I find their prices to be very reasonable too. Due to the nature of their business where every dish is cooked from scratch, do be prepared to wait quite a bit and this can even take up to an hour when they have a few tables occupied.

Aloo Paratha @ RM 4.00 Each

Chapati @ RM 2.00 Each
After a 30 minutes wait, our dishes arrived. The first thing to be served is the Aloo Paratha. I must confess that this was just awesome. The filling was so thick so much so you could actually taste a thick delicious paste of masala potatoes. It won't be wrong to say that this was one of the best Aloo Paratha's that I have tasted. It was so good that I wouldn't mind skipping all the other dishes that we had ordered. My rating for this would be 10/10. Their Chapati is pretty good as well but after having that awesome Aloo Paratha, this seemed like very ordinary. Nevertheless, it is still a good bread and my rating for it shall be 9/10.

Mutton Keema @ RM 19.00

Masala Prawn @ RM 18.00
The next dish that we had ordered was Mutton Keema. This was really good. They had used hand pulled mutton instead of minced mutton which is the easier alternative. The flavours were amazingly good as well. 9/10 shall be my rating for this dish. Their Prawn Curry is called Prawn Masala. The gravy was quite tasty. It was mildly spicy and the flavours were really good. Only setback would be the limited number of shrimps which I thought could have been more. My rating for this shall be 8/10.

Dal Tadka @ RM 12.00

Masala Chai @ RM 3.00
I would say that their Dal Tadka was just above average. Still, the South Indian Sambar is better for me. If I were to rate this preparation, I would give it 6/10. Finally, I had ordered a cup of Masala Tea to cap my dinner. This was again an awesome one. Lovely blend of spices and it was not too bold. I would rate this at 9/10.

Bill For The Evening
Overall, I find the food here to be pretty good and their prices are very reasonable. From the dishes that we tried today, their Aloo Paratha and Mutton Keema were the best and followed by their Prawn Curry. Not forgetting their Masala Tea which again was excellent. For good North Indian food in Cyberjaya, I would recommend Delhi Grill.

Restoran Makanan Laut River View @ Kuala Selangor, Selangor

It has been almost 15 years since my last visit to this restaurant. I do visit Kuala Selangor often but somehow we always end up going to the one beside this. This trip however, we decided to walk in to this one since it has been a very long time we last visited them. This restaurant is located in Pasir Penambang village, right beside the Selangor River and not too far away from Kuala Selangor town. If you're using Waze, it will bring you right to their doorstep.

The Restaurant in Pasir Penambang Village

Business Hours

Two Levels Of Seating Available
This restaurant is open daily from 11 am till 10 pm. The good thing about this restaurant is that it has a much larger seating capacity compared to their neighbours. Another positive thing about this restaurant is that you are able to order in smaller portions as well. If you are not sure as to what to order, do ask for their menu as they have a comprehensive pictorial menu that would help you with your ordering.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Ikan Merah @ RM 54.60

Dried Chili Mantis Shrimps @ RM 19.00
Teo Chew Style Steamed Fish is one of my favourites and I find it best to be done using Ikan Merah. The preparation here was excellent. They were very generous with the ingredients and the fish was very fresh. The sweet flesh and the sour broth was an excellent combination. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Very reasonable prices too. The next dish that we tried was their Dried Chili Mantis Shrimps and this was priced at RM 19.00 . Good portions, lovely mix of vegetables and the flavours were excellent. Another one that I would rate at 9/10.

Kailan Stir Fried with Garlic @ RM 9.00

Kam Heong Clams @ RM 14.00
Kailan Stir Fried with Garlic was good as well and I was happy that the leaves were fresh and not overdone. The aromatic garlic flavours weren't too bold and overpowering as well. 9/10 would be my rating for this. Kam Heong Clams were again good and I found their prices to be a steal. Medium sized clams were used and they were generous with the shrimp paste and onions. Slightly on the spicy side but it went perfectly well with White Rice. Another one that I would rate at 9/10.

Salted Egg Crabs (O.5 Kg) @ RM 44.00

Deep Fried Squid @ RM 19.00
This is the first seafood restaurant that I have come across that allows you to order 1/2 Kg of crab. All the other places that I have been to enforces a minimum of 1 Kg. This is great as we got to order more dishes to taste. Taste wise, they were extremely fresh and tasty. Since we had ordered another dish that was prepared the Kam Heong Style, so we had asked for this to be prepared with Salted Eggs and they were pretty generous with it. My rating for this dish shall be 9/10. Similarly, their Deep Fried Squid was another winner too. Crispy batter and juicy meat. Balanced flavours too and there was no trace of oil. 9/10 would be my rating for this dish.

Restoran Makanan Laut River View is indeed an excellent seafood restaurant to visit in Kuala Selangor. The food is fresh, prices are reasonable and you could order in smaller portions as well. Compared to their neighbours, we felt that the food is better here.

Restoran FZ @ Section 16, Petaling Jaya

I am a huge fan of Nasi Kak Woh, a spicy Rice and Fried Chicken dish that originates from the state of Kelantan. When I heard from a friend that there is another place in Section 16 that does sell this dish, I had to visit them and that is why I am here today in Phileo Damansara 1.

The Restaurant In Phileo Damansara 1

Iced Syrup

Nasi Kak Woh Set with Drink @ RM 6.50
This was like a set meal that comes with Iced Syrup and it is priced at RM 7.50 . Besides this, this restaurant does have other Malay Mixed Rice variety as well as Fried Noodles etc. The preparation here however is slightly different from the rest that I have seen. The Sambal too is quite different.

Sambal

Fried Chicken Bits, Veggies And Chicken Curry
Their Sambal was slightly on the sweet side which isn't what I was expecting. Nevertheless, it was still quite tasty and my rating for it shall be 8/10. The Chicken Curry was decent, though it could have been a little more concentrated and I shall rate it at /10. Their Fried Chicken bits however were good and that I shall rate at 8/10.

This dish wasn't as spicy as it should have been nevertheless, I found it to be quite tasty. Definitely a very different style of preparation compared to the rest of the Kelantanese restaurants and if you're open to trying new variations to this dish, then this would be a good place to visit. Reasonable prices as well.
