Restaurant Hou Xiang Chee Cheong Fun is a relatively new addition to Bandar Sri Damansara. Having started their business some time in May or June last year, they specialise in Chee Cheong Fun while having a number of variety of Chee Cheong Fun preparations from around the country. I have been to this restaurant a number of times and having been very satisfied with their food, we decided to return this evening.

This restaurant is located along the same row as the famous Restaurant Thai Base, which is the row of shops that is right behind RHB Bank in Bandar Sri Damansara. We were here at 6.30 pm for an early dinner and even then, there were already a number of tables that were occupied and by 7.15 pm, they were almost full house. The restaurant has a beautiful design and I really liked the decor. There is a bar styled station that is built in the center of the restaurant which is where all the food and drinks are prepared. Service here was a breeze and everyone seemed to be very efficient. As customers walked in, there was a gentleman who was greeting them and I supposed that that must be the owner of the restaurant.

Summary of Orders |
They had seven different variety of Chee Cheong Fun in their menu. Besides that, they also offered some Yong Tau Foo which also seemed like a favourite here as I did see a number of people ordering them. Their deserts also seemed good and they have a number of ABC's, Ais Kacang, Cendol and others. Ordering here is quite simple as all the dishes have a particular code number and an ordering chit is provided along with the menu. You would have to fill the code numbers in the chit and then hand them over to any one of the waitress. The plates and mugs used were very interesting. It used to be the ones that was commonly found in the 60's and 70's and I wonder where they got their supply of these utensils. Must be from Thailand as it is quite difficult to find them in Kuala Lumpur. You would have also noticed the Order Summary that was placed on the table. Once the orders are firmed up, the waiter then keys them in at the cashier and I believe it must be electronically transmitted to the kitchen. Then a summary of the orders is placed at the table and as and when the dishes are delivered, they are crossed off.

Honey Lemon @ RM 3.80 |
The Honey Lemon was quite a refreshing drink. The drink was prepared well and it deserves a rating of 8.5/10 .
|
Dianthera @ RM 3.80 |
Please don't ask me what that means but the drink was good. Mildly sweet, it was nice. Usually they would use the Enamel cups but since the water rationing, they have switched to these plastic disposable cups. I would rate this drink at 9.3/10 .

Soy Sauce Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.20 |

Soy Sauce Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.20 |
As always, their Chee Cheong Fun is good. I have tried many of the varieties here and wanted to try a variety never tasted here before. This one came with a good amount of soy sauce and it blended well with the Chee Cheong Fun. I would rate this at 9/10 . Once again, due to the water issue, they had used paper at the base of the plates as it would be convenient for them to just throw the paper away and the plate is ready to be reused.

Spicy Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.50 |
|
Spicy Chee Cheong Fun @ RM 4.50 |
The Spicy Chee Cheong Fun was good, but in all honesty, it wasn't spicy, at least not for me. It came with some mildly spicy soy sauce base and with pickled green chili on the sides. To me, it was more salty than spicy. I would rate this at 8.6/10 .

2 x Spicy Balls @ RM 3.00 & 1 x Pork Ball @ RM 1.70 |
|
2 x Spicy Balls @ RM 3.00 |
I am not sure why they call these Spicy Balls as they weren't spicy at all or even anywhere close to it. It was nice, I would just call this the usual Fish Ball. My rating for this would be 6.5/10 . The base soup however was quite flat in taste. I would only rate that at 5/10 .

Pork Ball @ RM 1.70 |
Their Pork Ball was just so so. Nothing great about it, in fact it was below expectations. I would rate this at 4/10 .

Fried Chicken Wings @ RM 6.20 |

Us Having Dinner |
On the whole, except for the Spicy Ball and Pork Ball dish, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and I find all their dishes to be good so much so, almost everything that I tried scored a good score from me. Their service is efficient, food is good and the price is very reasonable for most of their dishes and what more would I want from a restaurant. Definitely a highly recommended restaurant for Chee Cheong Fun.
