Dekna Tomyam is a no signage Tom Yam restaurant that is located right next to the entrance to Kampung Hassan which is located along Jalan Changkat Asa in Ulu Bernam, the Selangor side of town. I hardly come this far to find a food place but since my friend lives around this side of town, he invited me to try this place. As I am always open on trying new places, I decided to just tag along.

A Small TV To Entertain Customers |

It;s Just A Small Restaurant |
|
Seating Space and their Kitchen |
The restaurant was just a small one, not very grand but with sufficient comfort for customers. There was also a TV for customers' entertainment. Most of the people that come here are those that live around the housing estates in this part of town. We were here at 10.30 pm and were seated till around 1 am and throughout that time, there was a decent flow of customers coming in for dinner. The restaurant is a family owned enterprise and is manned by the family members. One takes care of the cooking, one the serving and cleaning and one takes the orders and handles the cash. Ordering was quite straightforward. No menus whatsoever. Just order what you want and if it is available, they would prepare the dish for you.

Sirap Bandung |
|
Teh O Ice |
In less than two minutes, the drinks were served. I ordered the above Teh O Ice and my friend ordered the Sirap Bandung. Both were good but the Sirap Bandung was excellent. I would rate the Sirap Bandung at 9.3/10 and the Teh O Ice at 8/10 .

Slices Cucumber and Spicy Chili Paste |

Spicy Chili in Belacan |
The food were also delivered very fast. I think, in less than 10 minutes, all the dishes were served. In fact, they served all the dishes at once including the above starters. I do not know if they charge for these starters as we do not have an itemised billing. The starters comprised of a few slices of chilled cucumbers and a spicy chili serving in Belacan. This Chili with Belacan was good but not great. I would only rate this at 7/10 .
|
White Rice |
The portion of White Rice was quite decent. While both of us being heavy eaters, we ended up having three plates of White Rice with the dishes that would be shown below. The Rice was hot and good.

Telur Dadar |
|
Telur Dadar |
Their Telur Dadar was good and I enjoyed it very much. It was evident that they were using some good cooking oil as there was no trace of any recycled oil being used. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Kailan Ikan Masin |
|
Kailan Ikan Masin |
Their Kailan Ikan Masin was nice too but it would have been better if more Salted Fish was used in preparing the dish. Otherwise, a decent preparation and I would rate this at 7.5/10 .

Tom Yam Soup |
|
Tom Yam Soup |
Their Tom Yam Soup was nice too but just like their other dishes, it was not outstanding. Overall, I would rate this dish at 7.5/10 .
In summary, the food here is nice but truly, it was nothing to shout about. Just the average Tom Yam restaurant that you would find around town. Their food was just above average and there was not a single dish that I can say that was fantastic, except for their Sirap Bandung which was good. The total bill for tonight came to RM 21.00 which is just reasonable, not cheap. Their pricing is similar to any other Tom Yam joint of this caliber. Would I return here? Perhaps for a drink but I doubt that it would be for a meal.
