We just came here on New Year's Day and we return again this afternoon for lunch. This is my third visit to this restaurant in the last two weeks as we were already hooked on to the food. As it was my brother's birthday, decided to celebrate in a small way here amongst the family members. This restaurant is located in Taman Weng Cheong which is situated along Jalan Changkat Asa, on the Ulu Bernam side of town.

Very Crowded Afternoon |
Despite being way past the usual lunch hours, the restaurant was still crowded which is not surprising to me as the food here is very good and the prices are reasonable.

Today was slightly different compared to the other days that we were here for two reasons. Firstly, my brother and I went for fishing at midnight yesterday and we got a number of huge fishes. As such, we brought one such fish along with us this afternoon which was a 2 Kg plus Ikan Patin for them to cook it for us. As it was huge, we requested them to cut it into two pieces and cook it in two different styles which they had agreed. The second reason was an interesting one. Since it had been raining non stop these days, the river next door had overflowed and a baby Python somehow made it's way to this restaurant and there were some people here this afternoon to catch it, which they did successfully and the entire patrons including me witnessed the show. Despite the slight commotion, most people continued to eat joyfully while witnessing the show.

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 8.00 |
Despite it not being that good during our first visit, we took the risk and ordered this dish again and today, the cooking was perfect. The Kangkung had been wonderfully cooked with an abundance of Belacan and it tasted good. Must have been a different cook on the first day and this was a change that we welcomed. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Homemade Tofu on a Sizzling Platter served with Minced Meat @ RM 12.00 |
The second dish was the above homemade Bean Curd which was prepared the Hot Platter style and it was served with minced meat and mushrooms. The homemade Bean Curd tasted different to the normal one and it was pretty good. Soft and delicious. The entire dish was good with just the right amount of sauces making it an excellent dish. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Buttermilk Prawns @ RM 20.00 |
We had initially requested for the usual Butter Prawns and she asked us if we wanted it the dry style or the wet style. That made us curious as we have always been trying the dry style. She then explained how the dishes differed and after hearing her explanation, we decided on giving this a try. This was quite nice too. The prawns were very fresh and that made them taste sweet. The Buttermilk was simmered with bird eye chilies thus making it creamy yet spicy which was a fantastic combination which we thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely a good variation from our usual. For the portion, the prices were definitely very reasonable. I would rate this dish at 9.2/10 .

Ikan Patin Steamed with Soy Sauce @ RM 15.00 |
This is the first half of the fish. As you can see, the fish was pretty huge and it definitely made sense for us to request for it to be cut into two halves. This was steamed with light soy sauce along with some sliced ginger. They had done an excellent job in cleaning the fish. Ikan Patin has an unusually high content of fat and oils and they have cleaned it perfectly so much so there were no traces of these in the dish. The cooking style too was excellent as it was an enjoyable dish. I was surprised to see that they charged only RM 15.00 per style which is quite cheap for this fish. If we had not brought our own fish, this fish would have cost us RM 70.00 plus as the going rate is RM 3.50 for 100 gm's. For me, this dish was very good and I would rate it at 9.3/10 .

Ikan Patin Deep Fried Nyonya Style @ RM 15.00 |
This again was only charged RM 15.00 as the fish was ours. The preparation style was good and suited well for this part of the fish. The fish had been deep fried to a crisp and topped with Asam Sauce which is a sour and spicy sauce akin to the Nyonya style. The vegetable toppings were good too. It would have been better if the Asam Sauce was thicker, but even this was good. I would rate this at 9.1/10 .

Bill For The Day |
Overall, it was a hearty lunch and every dish served today was good. The prices here too are extremely reasonable. If only people from Kuala Lumpur know of this place, I am sure many would flock here just for the food. As the old saying goes, this is one of those places that serve cheap and good food!
